Clear Tinted Classics

Jake talks about his time in West Virginia helping out on the set of Macabre Mountain. Then he talks about Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and does a lot of bad British accents.

In today's episode, Jake takes a look at the Japanese 70s film, Lady Snowblood. Maybe most well known for a being a film Tarantino liberally borrowed from, Jake talks a little about that but then dives into the actual film, because it turns out the film actually kind of rules. A badass woman with a sword on a revenge quest, what's not to love? Come check it out.

Kurt is back on the show to talk about this sort of cult classic, sort of horror, mostly surreal film. It's really unlike anything else, so take a deep dive with us as we break this one down.

Jake talks about what he's been watching, go figure. He talks about: The Wire, Nope, Little Nicky, School of Rock, Repo the Genetic Opera, The Gray Man, Delirium (1979), Is It Cake?, Euphoria, Hacks, Made For Love, My Dress-Up Darling, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, Doom Patrol, The Righteous Gemstones, Harley Quinn, The Rehearsal, RedLetterMedia, and Japanese Breakfast. Jake is joined by brand new guest Stephon. They reminisce a little about their college days, talk about Stephon's experience getting into film, especially older movies, and then dig into the Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. There's a lot to talk about, so they talk for a long time. Check it out!

Jancy is back on the show, and this time the topic is her favorite film of all time! Will Jake like it as much as she does? Probably not, but there's still a lot to love here. They talk about her first time seeing it, then dive into the movie itself. Check it out!

It's time to dive into Linklater's Before Trilogy. Starting with, you guessed it, the first one! Does this give Jake a slight existential crisis? Yes!

An underseen gem on today's episode, Jake is joined by Henrique Couto to talk about one of his favorite films that inspired him as a creative. But first they dig into Henrique's amazing backstory, including making tv shows at age twelve, and the adventures into making a living at his craft. Please check out incrediblyhandsome.com for all things Henrique!

Jake is joined by first-time guest Bron to talk about a movie they have both loved for a long time, though maybe there are some parts that don't quite hold up. Wait, they've both seen it? Yeah, it's an off-meta episode, deal with it. Why is this description so bad? Anyway, please check out Bron on all things, especially his upcoming movie Half Dead Fred!

First time guest, but long-time friend is on the show this week, Paisley Blackburn! Jake and Paisley talk about the star-studded affair that is the Burt Reynolds vehicle (ha-ha) The Cannonball Run. There's a lot of people in the film, and not a lot of time, but come see what they cover anyway. It's a fun movie, and a fun talk. Jake interviews Paisley about her acting career and love of film up top...

Would you stay in a sad, rich house? Idk, the episode is out, Jake talks about Sunset Boulevard does anyone read these?

Episode is gonna be a day late. Sorry!

Jake talks about pretty much every Adam Sandler movie he has seen. And he's seen a lot. He really likes Adam Sandler.

Shelby is back on the show to talk about Mean Streets. It's a mob movie, but only kind of, but that's maybe... the charm?

I watched stuff, now I'm gonna talk about it. Spy X Family, Sex Education, The Boys, Top Gun: Maverick, RRR, Men, The Northman, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Nine Days, Little Fish, X, and Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Is this the Korean Zodiac? No, cuz this came first. Join Jake and return guest Mool on a journey into one of Bong Joon-ho's early works, which still is kind of a masterpiece. It's depressing as hell, but it has got a lot to say. And it's also kind of funny? Listen!

Going back to the future today to 1997 to talk about this post-apocalyptic romp. Sure it's recent, but it's a cult classic, and it's good and was made for 60,000 dollars so it's super fun to talk about. Join Jake and first time guest Ricky Wilson Jr. as they dive into this relatively unseen gem. Go check out Rev-X-Films, and Ricky's films, including the amazing sci-fi western Draw.

I feel the urge, the urge to Purge. Espy is back to talk about this dumpster fire of a film. Classic? The two chat about their film careers up top, and then dig in on this disaster, and the wasted potential it has.

Andrew is on the show to help wingman Jake through this Tony Scott classic. How had he never seen it before? Don't worry about it. Just lay back and let's join Maverick, Goose, Iceman, and the rest on the highway to the DANGERZONE!

A new friend joins the show to talk about this throwback to 80's slashers. Is it a classic? Maybe by someone's definition, and that's good enough. Jake and Roman talk about Roman's journey into film, which Hatchet actually plays a role in, and then they dig into the film. Makes sure you go check out Studio 605 everywhere!

Clear Tinted Classics finally lives up to the name and actually covers a classic! First time guest Holly joins Jake to talk through this now 70 year-old film. Do the jokes hold up? Does the music hold up? Of course it all does but it's fun to still talk through it anyway. Come check it out!

Jake stretches the definition of classic once again by taking on a movie that is only... wait, it's been seven years since this came out? No... time, it, it's moving too fast, I can't take this anymore! Anyway, having seen Eggers other films, it was finally time to complete the set and check out The Witch. Is Anya Taylor-Joy amazing? Is Black Phillip the icon that was worthy of all the memes about...

Jake hasn't seen a lot of period dramas, but Svetlana is back on the show to help him rectify that. There's a lot to talk about when it comes to this movie, and of course they talk about whether a 13 year old child is the devil or not. Come check it out!
