Clear Tinted Classics

Jake is riding solo for this episode, much like Mark is on his radio show. Thematic parallels? We got em! Come and check out this slightly forgotten gem (maybe?) from 1990 about the relevant topic of short wave radio shows. More relevant than you might think!

An appropriate movie for Jake to cover since he is constantly interrupting people. But for real, Taylor comes back on the show to talk through this gem from the late 90s, and also dive into the mental health issues that the movie tackles. Come for the intellectual discussion, stay for them telling Angelina Jolie she needs chapstick.

No movie, no agenda this week. Just Jake chatting with his new friend Derek. They talk about documentary, travel, empathy, and wishing you lived in a fictional universe. Hope you enjoy!

Jake has been on the set of a feature film and he's been a little too busy to edit. Sorry!

Kingdom of Heaven

Christina is back on the show to help Jake talk about this lovers on the run film from David Lynch starring Laura Dern, Nic Cage, and Willem Dafoe. It's a weird movie, it's Lynch, so there's a lot to dig into. Slip on your snakeskin jacket, turn up the radio and listen in!

Jake has on first time guest Victoria to help him talk through one of the biggest films he's evaded all these years Apocalypse Now! They talk about her start in in film, and then they dive into one of the most infamous war movies of all time? What's it really about? Does Brando live up to the hype? Why doesn't Charlie surf? Some of these answers await.

Prolific screenwriter and lover of a very specific kind of science fiction John Oak Dalton is back on the show! It's time for Jake to watch his first Tarkovsky film. Will it be too much? What is Solaris? What is anything? Come find out.

Jake continues his journey into Paul Thomas Anderson with PTA aficionado Kurt. This time, it's The Master. Let Jake and Kurt take you on a slow boat to China as they break down pretty much every aspect of this surprisingly complex film.

Jake tackles another egregious miss on his Coen brothers list. This movie is way funnier than he was expecting!

Jake is joined from overseas by his friend Mool Hood to discuss this absolute Kurosawa banger. They talk a lot about screenwriting and movies, and then they dig into what makes Yojimbo such a compelling movie. It's mostly Toshiro Mifune.

Jake's voice is back, and he's using it to talk about the classic Jackie Chan vehicle, Police Story. It's a wild movie, filled with some of the best stunts of all time. But is that enough to earn it a super high rating? Well, Maggie Cheung and Brigitte Lin are in the movie, so that helps a lot.

Jake lost his voice, so he is using the audio from one of his Youtube videos. Sorry, but maybe you'll get a nice recommendation or something.

Christina is back on the show to talk about this incredibly well known film, Irma Vep. It's got  Maggie Cheung in latex, what more could you want? Also, a shocking amount of Sesame Street talk and impressions in this episode, be warned.

Daisy guests on the show for the very first time, and her and Jake tackle their very first Lars von Trier movie. Lots of talk about metaphor, mental illness, shaky cam, and Jake maybe uses this episode as too much of a therapy session. Check it out!

Jake watched A LOT of stuff recently, so he's gonna talk about it.  TV Shows: Cobra Kai, Midnight Mass, and Arcane.  Films: Those Who Wish Me Dead, All Too Well (Taylor Swift Music Video), There Will Be Blood, Nightmare Before Christmas, Annette, The Harder They Fall, Pig, Riders of Justice, Plan B, Till Death, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Pixie, The Power of the Dog, Val, The Matrix...

What better movie to tackle this spooky December than one of the Grandmamas of slasher horror and an ode to the holidays, Black Christmas. Shelby Nave is back on the show to help Jake through this one, and they have a blast sorting through the fun, the cool, and the stuff that doesn't quite add up. Hope you enjoy this gift!

It's a super episode. Jake has never seen the Matrix movies before, any of them, so it's time to catch up before the new one comes out. Previous guests Tony, Neal, and Andrew are here to help, and thank goodness they are. It's a wild ride, into the Matrix!

Jancy is back on the show to break all the rules and help Jake as he gushes way too much about Jennifer's Body. They've both seen it already, but who cares. Does is count towards Spooky December? Who cares???

Christina is back on the show to talk about this Tim Burton... ahem, Henry Selick directed classic! Jake discovers this movie is actually a full on musical, and has a lot of thoughts about Jack and how kind of dumb he is. They talk a lot about the musical episode of Buffy, but eventually also about the actual film. Check it out!

Jake talks about A LOT of Christmas movies. He doesn't actually remember most of them. It's fine. Stay till the end for the Technically Christmas Movie section where Jake actually get's fired up.

Jake takes on another Paul Thomas Anderson film, but this time he isn't alone! Kurt Roembke joins him to tackle this intense look at a man who might be a monster, but... well he is, but it's interesting. Also, please check out https://www.spaceowlproductions.com for all of Kurt's amazing projects!

Jake is joined by new friend Tony Walters to talk about this Oscar winning film from the Coen Brothers. But first they talk about the new feature Tony is gearing up to direct, and his influences growing up. Also, please check out his company, Rad Entertainment, and their website radentertain.com and support their Indiegogo project, The Undesirables which starts November 19th!

I talk about what I've been watching. Go figure lol. TV Shows discussed: Harley Quinn, Brand New Cherry Flavor, Great British Baking Show, Big Mouth, Squid Game, and Y: The Last Man. Movies: Streets of Fire, No Time to Die, Titane, The French Dispatch, But I'm a Cheerleader, The Last Duel, Dune, and No Country for Old Men.

It's not Halloween month anymore, but it is in our hearts. Taylor is back on the show to talk about growing up watching horror movies, how hot Nicole Kidman is, and eventually, Practical Magic.
