Sometimes we need to be reminded where we came from to appreciate the magnitude of what God has done in our lives. Our passage today plummets to the depths of our black hearts and rises to the summit of God’s great work on our behalf. Let’s open God’s word and be humbled and deeply encouraged today!

When you see evidences of grace in Christ-followers, do you encourage them? When you see people with spiritual blind spots, do you believe & pray for God to change them? Do you trust God is powerful enough to work change in you/others? In a prayer to the Ephesian church, Paul shows us how the power of God is at work then and now!

When you consider the blessings of God and the ways God has loved you, what comes to mind? Today, the apostle Paul recounts the spiritual blessings that flow down to us from the Father, through the Son, and by the Spirit. Let’s take a look at what’s on his list and how we ought to respond. It might just surprise you!

Have you ever thought, “Lord, the challenge is too much, I can’t do this.” How do we face challenges that seem greater than our resources? In Paul’s opening words of Ephesians we see the origin, design, reach, and fuel that powers the Christian calling through all the ups and downs of life. So much gospel encouragement from such few words! Let’s take a look!

Food is one of life’s necessities. How can depriving ourselves of what we need most draw us closer to God and remind us of our dependence on Him? This week we will look at the purpose and practice of fasting.

What kinds of things do you ask God for in prayer? Do you ask once or twice or continue to ask? Do you believe prayer makes a difference? If so, why? Letʼs learn to apply Jesusʼ master class on the “what” & “how” of praying this morning!

Are you a glass-half-full or half-empty kind of person? What lens do you tend to “see” your life through? The fruit of a legit dependence upon God will tangibly express itself in a thankfulness for Godʼs good gifts. Letʼs take a deeper look at giving thanks to God this morning in His word!

Itʼs easy to see & point out the failures of others but difficult to see and own our own shortcomings. Why is that? Why does God desire our ongoing confession even as believers in Christ? What does it do for us and others? Letʼs return to Jesusʼ class on prayer and learn the biblical value of confession to God!

Do you pray? If so, why? What content makes up your prayers? Where do they start? End? Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray in what is often called “The Lordʼs Prayer.” While most of us have memorized this prayer by osmosis, like the disciples, we have much to learn from Jesus about prayer!

Christmas Service 12/24/22

Ever made a “big” announcement? Who did you tell? How did you deliver the news? What was the response? Today, we see the long awaited promise of Messiah coming to fruition & the joyful announcement of His coming delivered. Much to consider about the character of God from this Christmas text! We put our hope in all kinds of things. We painfully discover many of our hopes are misguided & misplaced. Where do you put your hope? Today, we see the nation Israel in one of her darkest days. Yet, God reminds his wayward children that there is still hope, a sure promise of hope! Come, letʼs listen & learn from Godʼs word this morning!

We know WHAT Christmas is really about. We often remind our children WHO Christmas is about amid all the focus on Santa, presents, etc. But, WHY do we need a baby born in a manger? WHY would God send Him to us? Today, we unwrap the root reasons for Christmas that stir our affections for our Savior! Come, letʼs listen & learn!

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” What does this look like practically? Is there any certainty we can have in leading families after God in a world so opposed to Him? Thereʼs instruction and encouragement in this for us today as we look to the book of Deuteronomy.

Fake news and half-truths abounds in our world today. So, who do I listen to? What source do I trust? How does it make a difference in my life under the sun? We come to the final words of the wise Preacher of Ecclesiastes who reminds us who to listen to, where real truth comes from, and what we must do with it. “Youʼre getting older.” For the young, thatʼs usually an exciting reality! But for the rest of us, we donʼt want to hear it. We fight it, deny it, and ignore it. Well, how might a more honest & Biblical outlook on aging help the young & old live more wisely & make the best use of our time under the sun? Come, letʼs learn from the wisdom of Godʼs word this morning!

Know anyone whose life is marked by foolish decisions? Made any foolish decisions yourself? Solomon has been talking a lot about how to live wisely. Today, the wise sage paints us word pictures of foolishness to help us avoid these ditches in our own lives. Come, letʼs learn from the wisdom of Godʼs word this morning!

The grace of God is the foundation of the gospel. Today, as we approach Reformation Day (October 31), we will examine how the reformation restored the primacy of Godʼs grace.

Death is a subject we donʼt talk about much these days. We talk around it, ignore it, and pretend itʼs not there. But, the certainty of death can move us to the source of life and empower a well-lived life. Come, letʼs learn how to truly live by looking squarely at the certain reality of death.

How do I relate to authority in a God-honoring way? How do I wisely lead those under my care without taking advantage of them? What do I do with the perceived inequities I see in this world? Where does God show up in all of this? Letʼs put to work Godʼs wisdom from His Word this morning!

Without wisdom, we can make a real mess of our lives. What is wisdom? Where is it found? What’s the root reason it seems so elusive to find and practice? How can I put it to work in my life? Let’s go to the Source of all wisdom and learn how to put true wisdom to work in our lives today!

How should I think and feel about the hard times I go through? How about the good times? Which one grows me more? Solomon experienced the ups and downs of living “life under the Sun” as well. How do we make sense of it all? Letʼs open Godʼs word & glean His wisdom for living this morning.

In the pursuit of meaning and purpose, can being religious or wealthy provide what the soul truly needs? Solomon shows us the dangers of trusting in moral behavior or monetary blessings instead of looking toward the One who can ultimately satisfy us.

Today, we consider the preacherʼs wisdom against a rugged individualism that marks and erodes work, relationships, and places of power. The fact is, by Godʼs design, we need others way more than we think we do. Come, letʼs open Godʼs word and be reminded of our need for Godʼs good graces in our lives.

Weʼve all uttered these words at some point or another. We believe God is in charge and yet some things we observe are head-scratchers. Why the terrorist attacks of 9/11? Why the Hitlerʼs, Stalinʼs, Pol Pots of the world? Why is there so much corruption in places of power? Our hearts rightly cry out for justice yet we donʼt want justice visiting us.
