Capt. Marty's Outer Banks Fishing Report & Stories

In this story Capt. John Bayliss and I went to a Halloween party thinking we weren't going to have to fish the next day due to the weather... well we were wrong! Listen to hear the fun that was had, and the fun that WASN'T had!!

Hello Everybody!! My name is Deckhand Don! I'm filling in for Capt. Marty today as he takes a little break to go sit in the woods and find him some meat for the freezer! I got your fishing reports as well as a way to cook up some puppy drum that will make your mouth water! Thank you for listening!

Kind of the same as yesterday in the way that there wasn't a variety of species of fish but the ones that were around there were good catches of! Also in this report, a tip on anchoring your boat to the bottom while out fishing!

Let's see... not very much to report on species wise, but what I do have to report on is in abundance. Does that make sense? All fronts still pretty solid as we continue to push our way into late October.

Fishing still pretty daggum solid on just about all fronts. Not too many charter boats running at the moment so offshore it's been tough to get a report but I know what they've been catching. Also don't forget about the deer and duck guides that are also charter captains that would love to take you out in the woods or in the marsh as well. I'll talk a little about that too.

In this story from Capt. Marty's youth, he tells us of "The Cat Woman" that lives in the lighthouse down by Ponce Inlet, FL and how he and friend were going to see her... or so they thought!!

These blow days are kinda messing things up for us lately. Not too much to report on fishing wise but I do have your deer harvest report from Dare County, Hyde County, Tyrrell County and Beaufort County and the numbers are quite interesting!

A pretty solid fishing report from the weekend. Seemed as if there was a mixed bag on all fishing fronts. I have the results of the Nags Head Surf Fishing Tournament in this report from last week. Looks like we have a cool front moving through later this evening so that's going to shake things up a bit on the fishing front and for you hunters out there, the deer will be on the move too!

It's October and our dear friend Capt. Marty has a few ghosts stories on the horizon, like this one from his friend Roy. Roy tells a story from his tugboat days having to dock in a port that had a long jetty that ran out into the ocean. Roy's friend Fred would stand out on the point of that jetty with a lantern on dark, foggy nights to help guide them in to the harbor. Well.... I'll...

Offshore fishing has come to a little bit of a halt lately with the breezy conditions we've been experiencing, however the surf, piers and back country fisheries are doing just fine! I have the latest from the Nags Head Surf Fishing Tournament to report on as well!

Offshore has been tough with the wind but it seems as if the beach and pier fishing hasn't been affected too much by it! Sounds are still producing as well and the shrimping season has been phenomenal for the third year in a row! Looking forward to this weekend because its opening day for white tail deer gun season!

LOTS to cover in todays report from the fishing and hunting side of things!!

The winds are slowing things down some because a lot of the boats can't get out, but the fish don't care about that! Here's the latest from the fishing front!

Pretty good weekend of fishing, especially in the sounds. It looks as if some cooler weather will be moving in this evening so that could make things a tad better! Gonna talk a little hunting in this report too!

In another one of his stories involving first aid, Capt. Marty talks about the day a white marlin caused him to get a hook stuck in his knee while mating on the Sundancer with Capt. Nevin Wescott. Capt. Nevin didn't want to steam in to the dock for Marty so he radioed for assistance, and assistance sure did show up!

Still a bit breezy for the boats to get offshore (at least the boats I talked to didn't go) but the piers and back country guys/gals still had some action!

Let us continue to keep our friends effected by Helene in our thoughts and prayers.  Fishing was great yesterday for the pier/surf and sounds. No one got offshore yesterday, but when they do its going to be great out there! I have some exciting news to announce in this report too!

Fishing didn't change much over the last few days. This wind shift should help to boost things for us in a variety of ways. 

It's the first day of October and we are in the meat! That means the meat fish are plentiful!! The wind should be switching out of the north-northeast this evening so that may change a few things, but I believe for the better! 

Please remember our friends on the western side of the state. They have experienced devastation. Keep them in your prayers.  Fishing was pretty daggum decent over the weekend. Little hotter than usual but that is going to change sometime this week. 

Fishing has been relatively good over the last few days offshore, near shore and in the sounds. Shrimping seems to be very hot lately too!  The weekend looks nice but next week could be a tad different!!
