Michter's US-1 Small Batch showed up claiming to be America's first whiskey — distilled since 1753, served to George Washington's troops, and revived from bankruptcy with a Kentucky comeback story — but at $50, the boys wanted to know if it's actually worth keeping on your shelf or just well-marketed nostalgia.

Rabbit Hole High Gold rolled in with malted rye instead of the usual grain — and at $45, it delivered cherry cordial sweetness up front before that peppery finish snuck up on you, proving Kentucky bourbon doesn't have to come from the backwoods to earn its shelf space.
