A Sure Hope

The Gospel message is unique in that it removes all boundaries between God and man, be it race, reputation, past, or otherwise. The religious rulers who crucified Jesus and began to persecute His believers were forfeiting their blessings as children of God because they rejected Jesus. In defending himself, Stephen reminded the religious rulers who were persecuting him of their roots. They forgot their bondage, God’s rescue and the amazing miracles of the exodus. They even forgot the Israelites’ continual rejection of Moses. And, as Pastor Dave explains today, they rejected Jesus whom Moses prophesied about.

It’s easy to forget about God and forge ahead in your enthusiasm for doing His work. However, as Pastor Dave will remind you today, the work of the spirit can never be accomplished in the power and wisdom of man. God will delay you as He prepares you for His plan in His time. Only then will you have the empowerment of the Holy spirit for His work.

Jesus warned his disciples they’d experience suffering and rejection for His name because the world hated Him first. But, as Pastor Dave will remind you today, God promises to be with you in any suffering. He promises He will use it for good. Take heart! You are an overcomer because of Jesus.

You’re in training but it’s not for the future, it’s for right now. Trusting in Jesus is walking in obedience moment by moment, as Pastor Dave teaches today. If you only look to a certain time coming up, you’ll miss what God has for you right now. So embrace the training process while engaging in the present.

Sometimes bad circumstances lead to the best witnessing opportunities. Stephen is an example of this in the passage in Acts covered by Pastor Dave today. His life lined up with what he claimed to believe and this brought him to trial before the religious leaders. Can others tell you’re a Christian by how you live?

The blessings of God can easily be turned into a burden if you grab hold of them and fail to release them back to Him. As Pastor Dave warns in today’s message, the temptation in that place of blessing is to grow complacent and independent and forget how desperately you need a Savior.

Sometimes you might wish you could forget your past. Satan likes to dredge through it, pulling up memories of hurtful things you may have said or done. In today’s message, Pastor Dave reminds us that while God can forgive and forget, it’s not so easy for us. Instead of dwelling on those things, dwell on the grace that brought you out of them.
