It's a star-studded cast in some breakthrough roles from writer Kevin Williamson, fresh off of the Scream franchise and Dawson's Creek TV show. It's just not as good as you may have remembered.

As a goofy time capsule of your typical 80's film, it's a fun ride through an improbably plot and even more improbable special effects. Still, some great actors generally make the best of the hilariously bad material they are given, making for an experience that could have been much more boring than it turned out.

For a good example of how filmmakers can do little with nothing, this low-key horror film seems to push all the right buttons to pull you in and keep ahold of you until the surprise ending. Give this week's episode a listen for all the details, but we highly recommend you watch the movie first.

A team of people follow an ancient secret path through the catacombs of Paris to find the mythical philosopher's stone that turns base metals into gold. So much promise, but what a letdown.

This laughable attempt at a film at least falls into the "so bad it's good" category when it's not offending your sensibilities. And to think Todd first thought this was a faith-based film touting the dangers of abortion...

We both remembered this as being fairly boring, and at least one of us hasn't revised that assessment. Regardless, it was a huge hit and a widely influential haunted house movie.

We start with this classy, classic, stylish supernatural thriller starring Donald Sutherland. It may not be the most action-packed film we've reviewed, but there is a lot to unpack as a couple grieving for the loss of their daughter encounter a psychic with a warning for them from beyond the grave.

The Sam Raimi team of misfits gathers together in 1989 to add to the growing pile of middling 80's slasher films, this one surrounding the night crew in a supermarket that is too small for its own good. Sam and Ted Raimi, Martin Sheen's daughter, and even Bruce Campbell all make appearances, with effects by The Walking Dead goremeister Greg Nicotero.

All you need to know is in the title. We follow the exploits of an "Engineer Hunter" in the madcap and bloody world of the future, where the Tokyo Police are privatized and brutal, hunting mutants who grow weapons from damaged body parts. It's as crazy as it sounds.

We chose this film to finish up our month of notorious #2's because Hooper and Co. decided to go a completely different direction with a wacky, gory comedy, instead of the shocking straight horror style of the original (which did, truth be told, have its own darkly comedic moments).

The first appearance of Jason as the killer requires a few leaps in logic and plausibility, but it did set up one of the most iconic movie villains and longest-running horror franchises in the business. It also makes for a charmingly dated and tame summer camp slasher movie, which we only realized upon revisit.

Very different in tone from the original House (which we have previously discussed), we had fond memories of this horror-comedy from our childhoods. Have a listen to see if the film measured up to our recollections.

Alexandre Aja has a reputation for making extremely violent gorefests, and this one kicked it off for him. We have very mixed feelings about it.
