Fatherhood and authority are at the heart of God’s Creation. The Fatherhood of God defines us and the world He made. When our eyes are open, we see it everywhere.

Love led God the Father to send His Son to die. Love led the Son to obey His Father. Now through faith in His Son the Father has adopted us, once His enemies, making us His sons. The love of the Father for His Son is the love of God for us. The submission of the Son to His Father is our submission to our Heavenly Father.

The Fatherhood of God is based in heaven where the Father’s only begotten Son loves His Father and gladly does His will. When we pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” we ask that the Father’s relationship to His eternal Son be reflected in our lives on earth.

God delegates every authority, thus hatred of authority is hatred of God. Man is out to kill the Father Almighty.

The Church’s power and hope come from the promise of Christ’s ongoing presence. Our ability to obey the Great Commission depends on the communion we experience with our Lord.

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ means being obedient to His commands. Evangelism that does not lead to obedience makes a mockery of the Great Commission.

The Great Commission depends on the local church doing its work. Without baptism, there can be no true discipleship. But what is baptism?

Our Lord commanded His church to think in terms of a global offensive. All nations must become disciples of Jesus Christ. We will never obey this command until we begin to think of the Church Militant.

The Great Commission is founded on the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ. Modern American Christians do not understand authority, so they cannot understand the Great Commission.

How often have you heard the fear of the Lord in public worship? This session will show how true worship must always have a place for extolling not just God’s love, but also His holiness. If we want to honor God in our worship, we must resolve to praise Him for what He truly is, and to proclaim both fear and love as proper responses to the gospel.

This session will apply the first two sessions and show how fear and love relate to the practical aspects of our homes. In a Christian home, the children learn to fear and love God as they learn to fear and love their father. A child that has no fear for his father cannot love him as he should, nor can he love God as he must.

Fear of God does not end once a man comes to faith; it is refined as he is made more holy. In this second session, we will look at sanctification and the role that fear plays in it. Far from taking away our fear of God, the cross establishes it, and causes us to obey out of loving fear for our Lord.

There is no greater example of how fear and love meet than the cross of Jesus Christ. This session will discuss the penal substitutionary atonement, and how God satisfied both wrath and love by pouring out punishment on His own Son, for the sake of us who are His children.

The office of elder was instituted in order to mediate conflict among the people of God. But as elders mediate conflict, conflict arises among the elders as well. It is the pastor’s job to lead his elders through the divisions that come from shepherding the flock. This is among the most difficult and demanding things a pastor must do.

There’s a reason the Bible says a lot about conflict in the church—about quarrels and divisions and biting and devouring. Churches are messy places, full of sinners. And where there are sinners, there is conflict and strife. It’s the job of every pastor to deal with conflict among the sheep—to preserve peace and unity without sacrificing the true righteousness to which God calls his people.

When we worship, we don’t worship alone. We are united in spirit with the church across the ages. Our job is to honor our fathers, to stand on their shoulders, to improve upon the work they’ve done before us.

We worship God in holiness, but His holiness is unequivocally, universally overwhelming—even paralyzing. Isaiah saw it. So do we. Yet a broken spirit and a contrite heart He will not despise. How do pastors and leaders cultivate faith—true faith—in their people, for worship?

Style is divisive. No one thinks they’ve chosen a style of worship. But try to get red, yellow, black, and white to worship together, and it’s not always doctrine that divides us. Dancing? Drums?
