Covering: Gamera vs Giant Evil Beast Guiron This month, we look at a movie that miraculously is a lot more put together and way more of a movie than the last one. And we finally break the downward trajectory of our kaiju tier ranking streak! Twitter | Bsky | YouTube | ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 37 to 39 Red is away this week due to last minute mic issues, leaving Brad and Mel to pick up this pieces as they talk about a good episode of actual Ultraman Leo that appears to be underrated before diving into a pivotal two-parter with split opinions. Twitter | Bsky | YouTub...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 34 to 36 We might be so back this week as Leo gifts us the return of Return of Ultraman, a new goofy guy (with a healthy dosage of piss) and a real banger alien mind games episode featuring Dan at perhaps his most evil. And of course, we meet a new friend who brings back a classic podcast segment! Twitter | B...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 31 to 33 A cautiously optimistic week this time as the Folklore series (finally) ends on a high note and the next episode following it feels like the most Leo-core episode we've had in a while? Are we back? I guess we'll see. Twitter | Bsky | YouTube ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 28 to 30 Somehow, the Folklore series continues and squanders many potentially cool ideas including one of the ideas from the very beginning of the show. Things aren't looking so hot for Leo right now. Twitter | Bsky | YouTube | ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 25 to 27 After two years and a bit, six shows and a bit a bunch of other stuff in between, we have reached the big ONE HUNDRED for our podcast! And to commemorate it, we've got three truly mid episodes of Ultraman Leo. We could not have asked for a more fitting outcome. Twitter | Bsky | ...

Covering: Gamera vs Space Monster Viras This month, our two hosts dive into the no-money-zone as we get an incredibly brief and threadbare movie with some charming points that all in all leave it to be a surreal viewing experience. Watch as Gamera teams up with some boy scouts to fight an alien invasion made with zero money! Twitter | Bsky...

Covering: Golden Kamuy volumes 1 to 6 On this beefy first episode of this new season of Detour Quarry, Red and Mel dive into the first few volumes of the manga Golden Kamuy with enthusiasm. With much to discuss between colonialism, a diversity of guys and a strange number of coincidences, the winding road ahead is looking promising. Which is good because we will be walking it for a while. ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 22 to 24 As we near the halfway point of the show, things get weird this week as we get a new character out of nowhere we know nothing about and may or may not be important, a strange Taro style episode and then also the most normal and arguably best episode of the week which still has a questionable ending. Twitter...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 19 to 21 This week, we wrap up the Horror Series with three episodes that have nothing to do with horror whatsoever, but all of them for some weird reason are about Hokkaido. I don't know what that's about but I guess it's good that we're reading Golden Kamuy in two weeks. Also enjoy the Dune talk, be mindful of book spoilers for beyond the second movie. ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 16 to 18 CW: discussion of sexual violence and the deployment of rape imagery from 1h22m00 to 1h29m00 This week, Brad's away on short notice, so it's up to Red and Mel to handle discussing these strangely similar in premise trio of Ultraman episodes on this podcast about Ultraman by talking about literally everything else besides. Twitter...

Covering: Ultraman Arc The Movie: The Clash of Light and Evil The Arc movie comes to us a lot sooner than expected which means we can close the book on this series while it's still fresh in our minds! As for the movie itself well...it's certainly interesting! Twitter | Bsky | YouTube ...

Covering: Giant Monster Dogfight: Gamera vs Gyaos In this third episode, we dive into an important turning point as the Gamera series establishes its core identity in a departure from the previous film and sets the direction of the movies to follow. It's also a movie with some...interesting morals. Twitter | Bsky | ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 13 to 15 Ultraman Leo gets a new OP this week but we don't talk about that. More importantly, we are so back this week as Gen contributes a bit too much to workplace negligence across the board. Twitter | Bsky | YouTube | ...

Covering: Giant Monster Duel: Gamera vs Barugon Coming immedietly off the heels of the first episode, we dive straight in to the second Gamera movie, which ends up being a departure from the previous one in a number of ways that may be either compelling or confounding depending on your point of view. Regardless, there's a lot to say about this curious movie. Also, as of the time of release, happy...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 10 to 12 This week gets a bit goofy, in some ways better than others. Twitter | Bsky | YouTube | Ko-fi Timestamps: Preamble Section 00:00 - Intro 03...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 7 to 9 It was going to happen eventually but we have a bit of a weaker batch this week, but also with some fascinating insights into our friend Dan's (as well as the show generally) views on women and also aliens. Twitter | Bsky | YouTube | ...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 4 to 6 Leo even in its second batch escalates to points we didn't think were possible so soon in the show's run. As we thoroughly enjoy these episodes, they also give us a lot to talk about and chew on as we question the moral character of our old friend Dan. Also it's Mel's birthday today (on day of release) so go be nice to her or something. ...

Covering: Gamera the Giant Monster A bit later than originally planned but the first proper episode of Turtle Tea Time and the debut of cohost Katherine is here! We sit down and talk about Gamera's debut film, the circumstances that led to its creation and what a good time it was to watch. Twitter | Bsky | Y...

Covering: Ultraman Leo episodes 1 to 3 We dive in to a new season with this week as we witness the beginning of the end for the second period of Showa Ultraman. And it turns out, at least based off these first episodes, that Leo might be a banger and exactly the kind of show we've been wanting! Twitter | Bsky | ...

Covering: Johnny Mnemonic (1995 film), ft. Burning Chrome (1986 short story collection) It's a packed episode on this first Detour Quarry under our new format covering both the wild and curious 90s cyberpunk film Johnny Mnemonic and also our rankings of William Gibson's Burning Chrome stories (which of course includes...Johnny Mnemonic). Because these were things we wanted to do anyway. Also some...

Covering: Ultraman Taro episodes 51 to 53 And with that, another season is brought to a close, this time with a season we actually enjoyed. But how do we feel about Taro and its approach to the formula? How about that ending? And what about the weird guy they added to the cast in these last three episodes specifically? All this and more in this packed episode. Twitter...

Covering: Wonderful Precure full series Another year has come and gone, so Red and Mel sit down and discuss the past year's Precure season, a show they both thoroughly enjoyed. Sometimes all you need for a good show is to put silly characters in situations. Twitter | Bsky | YouTube ...

Covering: Ultraman Taro episodes 48 to 50 In this penultimate batch of Taro, while Brad's away at Frosty's, we get some absolutely ridiculous episodes and a lot of licensed music for some reason. We also have to re-iterate one of the most enduring morals from this podcast: never ski! Twitter | Bsky | YouTube...

Covering: N/A 2025 is the 60th anniversary of Gamera, so Mel is doing a podcast mini-series about it! Brad and Red are not doing it though. To keep the bench warm while Mel waits for her actual cohost for this project, here's forty years of film history leading up to the first movie and the story of one morally dubious man. Twitter | Bsky |...
