Totally Tanked podcast

A tank that only made sense as a fascist empire failed to come to terms with the reality of its own demise. It still remains one of the great villains of history, an icon to conjure with. This month we talk about the Tiger.

A tortured development, a weird anglo-iranian heritage, a tank designed to invade Iraq, that got to do it twice. The wrong gun with the wrong engine, and an armour scheme that no-one understands. And yet if we had to choose one tank to go to war in, in 2020, it's this weird beast.

Forget your big cats, forget your miracle weapons. The greatest German tracked fighting vehicle of the Second World War was based around proven manufacturing, training, and logistics and an adequate gun. Thankfully they did not learn from this lesson. But we've learned plenty from talking through the history of the Stug III.

Responding to listener demand we bring you the dawn of the tank, the history of the tank in the first world war.

In this outing we take a deep breathe and go though the most poorly understood and yet massively produced tank of the world's most important tank war. We dive deep on the M4 Sherman. It was the best of tanks, it was the worst of tanks...

In our Christmas edition we take on the mighty Soviet Colossus, the KV-1. Also the beer review is Bombardier Premium British Ale!

The most influential tank of the cold war? Consider the little known, but widely fought light French terror, the AMX-13.

New host Rob joins John to take us through the smallest and most obscure tank with an unexpectedly huge cultural impact. It's the Ontos, The Thing, The Pig, or, in polite company, the "Rifle, Multiple 106 mm, Self-propelled, M50".

Andrew and John try to figure out how one tank can be so great, and so abysmally bad, at the same time. It's a small, fast, tough, swimming tank with a really big gun. What more can you ask for?

Andrew and John go through the gubbins of what makes a modern tank as we kick the tracks of the tank of the free world, the euro-tank, the global-tank, the Leopard 2!

In the first outing of Totally Tanked we talk you through the development and design of the Matilda II and explain its unexpected claim to being the best tank of the Second World War.
