The Storytellers Series

This chapter tells the story of Paul's trial before Felix. As we see Paul go through the court system of his time, the group discusses the way in which he continues to conduct himself.

In this chapter, we see Paul wisely use the dissension between the Sadducees and Pharisees to his advantage. Caleb gives us more insight into these two groups of Jewish believers.

In this chapter, the group focuses on the prejudices we see the Jewish people display towards the gentiles. When we put people in groups rather than see them as individuals, it's easier to lack empathy.

In this Chapter, Jewish believers convince Paul to shave his head to keep the peace and basically, help keep his attackers at bay. Have you ever met someone in the middle in order to keep the peace?

Unfortunately for Eutychus, this story reads kind of funny as there isn't anything like this that appears again. But also in this chapter, we see another example of Paul's passion to preach the Gospel.

This chapter is full of action and we learn a valuable lesson that Jesus is more than a name. These sorcerers were trying to use the name of Jesus for their own desires and we see that the power of His name is much deeper.

In this chapter we see Paul reacting in a way I'm sure we can relate. He gets so frustrated preaching to his fellow Jews that he shakes the dust from his clothes and is fed up. But we see that in this moment, God sends him a message of encouragement.

When Paul travels to Athens, how does he minister to these people of another faith? The group discusses his preaching style and his heart to meet people where they are.

After all of this discussion about circumcision, Paul circumcises Timothy before he joins their ministry team. The group discusses this decision by Paul and applies it to how we do ministry today.

This is such a crucial chapter for us as believers today to study. We see that the early church didn't have their theology fully developed from day one. We even see disagreements. What can we glean from how they handled disagreement in the church?

In this chapter, we see another beautiful sermon by Paul. The group discusses some of his style and methods when it comes to how he shares the Gospel. What can we learn from him?

In this chapter, Paul and Barnabas meet another Sorcerer. Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, causes this man to be blind. Interesting that the Holy Spirit used the same method of transformation on both Paul and the Sorcerer. 

In this chapter, the group discusses the meaning of King Herod's death. It's such a strange description of the way in which he died. We also see a moment where a prayer of the church was answered, yet they were unprepared to accept this miracle.

We continue to see the early church debating as the Jewish believers are "figuring out" what to do with the fact that gentiles are now receiving the Holy Spirit. Acts is such an incredible book because we are watching the early church develop its theology and understanding of who Jesus is and what took place at the cross. In this chapter, we learn more about Saul (who will become the Apostle Paul). The group discusses the miracle of transformation that happens to everyone who experiences the presence of God. This is a critical point for the church as Stephen is the first to be martyred. We read in his final moments a phrase very similar to Christ's final words on the cross.
