The Nerfherder Council

Salutations, fellow Herders! It’s our 40th episode already! Can you believe that?? We figured for this momentous occasion, the Council would try something new (for us) and take an in-depth look at the film that started it all 40 years ago. Listen along as we watch “Star Wars: A New Hope”! —– NHC on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-nerfherder-council/id1...

Hello again, Herders! We’ve got a rift among the Council, and we bring it to the table. Both ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘Rogue One’ told stories with known events and endpoints – so which movie tells its story better? JT jumps to the defense of Episode 3, AJ takes up the cause for ‘Rogue One’. We get the pulse of our fellow podcasters on this topic to...

Hello, fellow Herders! We had grand aspirations for this episode, we really did, but a particular YouTube video (deliberately not linked, so as not to drive any more traffic to it) was so inflammatory towards ‘The Force Awakens’ that we never got to our larger topic. We take on this behemoth of pessimistic clickbait willingly, so does it count as getting trolled?? Join us as we reverse...

Greetings and awkwardly long handshakes, Herders! We had so much to say about Star Wars Celebration Orlando, we couldn’t cram it all into a single episode. We managed to cram it into 2, though! In this episode, we give our thoughts on The Last Jedi trailer, talk more SWCO stories, spoil a book for Jon, and discuss the real-world problems of Star Wars costuming. We also put on our marketing h...

Hey, have you heard of this thing called Star Wars Celebration Orlando that happened last week? We were there! From all the panels, after hours shenanigans, official news releases, and stories from the show floor, we run down everything we can remember and speak of publicly that happened on our trip. Were you in attendance at SWCO? We’d love to hear your stories! Hit us up on Twitter, Facebo...

We’re a mere 4 days from Star Wars Celebration Orlando!!!!! We’re too geeked to talk about anything else, so we don’t. We look over the recently released panel schedule, calling out the can’t-miss and won’t-bother events, do a little on-air trip planning, and as usual, scheme how to crash the events they don’t want us attending. We’ll be in Orlando all thi...

Who’s got horns, a red and black face, and got the finger in his latest appearance on Star Wars: Rebels? Hint: it’s not Obi-Wan. We all knew the day was coming when Maul had to face Kenobi again, but this… this “fight” left the Council feeling as cold as a Tattooine night. Also on the episode, we discuss the possibility of The Last Jedi going back to the start –...

Heyyyyyy…. it’s been over a year since we trolled the interwebs for stupid fan theories – can you believe that!? Well, it’s true. It’s damn true. With “The Last Jedi” and Star Wars Celebration: Orlando to look forward to, we vet the latest (and silliest) theories we can find. It’s more Rey, more Snoke, more stupidity! P.S. – only 31 days until...

This time around on the Nerfherder Council, we take on the controversial documentary “The People vs. George Lucas”. Is the creator of Star Wars deserving of all the criticism thrown his way, or are his contributions to a galaxy far, far away enough to warrant fans’ unwavering respect? Jon of course sides with Mr. Lucas, and has plenty to say on the subject! The Nerfherder Council...

Not much happening in Star Wars this week – which is rare! So, we look ahead to the rest of 2017 and discuss the major events coming up on the Star Wars calendar – and there are a LOT: Rebels, Celebration, Force Friday, The Last Jedi, comics, books, video games… it’s a great time to be a Saw Guerrera Star Wars fan! Linky-links: Guardians of the Whills: Baze And Chirrut ‘Rog...

Salutations, fellow Herders! Episode 8 has a title – “The Last Jedi” – and we discuss the crap out of it. (That’s what podcasts do!) We take a look at potential story directions, some Solo family history, the Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide , and recap a friendly game of Star Wars Trivial Pursuit with our buddies at The Blockade Runner Podcast . We’re going to S...

Welcome back to our regularly scheduled programming! With two Disney-led Star Wars films released, we take a look at each to see which one *feels* more like Star Wars. We tend to lean towards Rogue One over The Force Awakens , despite its format breaking so many conventions. Why is that? The Council discusses. Also in this show: a possible story direction for Episode VIII , Star Wars Christmas loo...

…Aaaaand we’re back! This time around on the Nerfherder Council – our first of 2017 – we explain what happened to our last episode. Rathtars! The Council also interviews Dark Vader of “Galactic Empire” on the eve of their US mini-tour to talk about the origins of the band, playing music in full Star Wars costume, and staying on Darth Mickey’s good side. Al...

Weesa back! After a brief hiatus, the Nerfherder Council has returned with a special 2-part Rogue One extravaganza. Recorded in 2 segments – well, actually *3*, as you’ll hear – we start off before the release of Rogue One and give our take on phone sex operators while having a production meeting live on air! Then we get around to what we want to see from the movie. In part 2 (or...

It’s Thanksgiving week in the United States this Thursday, and we’re taking stock of all the things we’re thankful for in a galaxy far, far away. Spoiler: we’re all over the map on this one. And we make Steve talk! Aren’t you thankful for that??

It’s back to the start! “Rogue One” opens in just 6 weeks, and butts up to what started it all: Star Wars. (“A New Hope” to you kids.) In fact, we’ve got a kid on the show! Let’s see what Generation Z feels about a movie made nearly 3 decades before he was. This is our love letter for the film that started it all. And this is just for fun: Wilhelm Scream C...

“Have you ever considered we may be on the wrong side?” Padmé may have had it right! On this episode, we turn the tables and consider the Galactic Civil War from the Empire’s point of view. Also on this show: a brief review of the new book, Ahsoka , and just how EEEEVIL is the Empire?? On a personal note, happy birthday Dad!!

“Rogue Friday” marked the official release of the Rogue One toy line, and The Nerfherder Council was live to cover it all – except the Facebook Live video had no sound and the audio was unusable due to rain and wind noise. Oops. So, back in the warm, quiet confines of Echo Base, we recount our experiences at Toys R Us on that fateful night. Also, we delve into Disney storytelling...

Welcome back, everyone! A long time ago, in a Facebook group far, far away, two upstart podcasts connected. (Spoiler: One of them was us.) On this, our 20th episode, we bring on John from The Blockade Runner. (That was the other podcast.) He gives us thoughts on The Prequels Strike Back, Star Wars Celebration, and how great we are. He’s welcome back anytime. Check out The Blockade Runner at...

Salutations, Nerfherders! We spend a lot of time defending the prequels, but this time around, we let someone else far more qualified make their case. We turn the mic on director Brad Weatherholt and producer Kyle Brodeur, creators of a new documentary titled “The Prequels Strike Back”! The film releases digitally on September 14th, with screenings in select cities to follow starting O...

Salutations, fellow Herders! On this episode, the Council discusses the final film of the George Lucas era: Revenge of the Sith . Is it a paint-by-numbers conclusion to the prequel era, or is it something more inspired? Jon, as usual, defends its virtues, while AJ isn’t so sure – and Steve, well… Steve can’t make up his mind. What do you think?? Is it the greatest of the pr...

Did you tune in to our live stream last Wednesday? It doesn’t matter! Cuz this isn’t that show. This is an all-NEW show recorded *this* week instead. Aren’t you thrilled?! We still debate the greatest Star Wars characters (or one author’s opinion, at least) – but we also cover an exciting report suggesting the prequels may see a 3D Blu-Ray release alongside The Force...

It’s time to celebrate, fellow Herders! With Star Wars Celebration Europe having come and gone, we discuss the big news coming out of the annual event. We cover blind Jedi, a legend from Legends being reborn in the new canon, and the overall effect of “rejected” Star Wars ideas being brought in to new stories – and it was all streamed LIVE on Facebook. Check it out, and be...

So you think The Phantom Menace rips off A New Hope more than The Force Awakens ? Well, you’re wrong! And we’ve already talked about that. It leads us to an article about a person’s first viewing of Episode 1, though, so let’s party like it’s 1999 and talk about that. The article in question:  I’m Pretty Sure Phantom Menace Is A New Hope’s Bad Clone And the Aftermath:...

Welcome back for another thrilling edition of The Nerfherder Council! With Jon and Steve back, we discuss the late and hefty reshoots ordered for Rogue One . Is this the Disney-fication of Star Wars at its worst, or is it righting the ship? We toss a few ideas around. Join us and let us know what you think!
