Psalm 32 This week's psalm transports us back to the very first psalm. They both begin with a beatitude. Andrew and Edwin highlight how Psalm 32 opens our hearts and minds to a new blessing. At the end of Psalm 1, we might be tempted to believe the blessed are only those who perfectly obey God's law. Psalm 32 clarifies. Psalm 31 If we learn anything from this psalm, it is that God intended for the psalms to be used in prayer. Not just any prayers, our prayers. We find this psalm used repeatedly by others in prayer. Jeremiah used it over and over. Jonah used it. And none other than Jesus Himself used it. In this episode, Andrew and Edwin talk about the psalms in prayer. Psalm 31 Happy April 1st! Can you believe three months of 2021 has already gone by. Andrew and Edwin start off with a bit of fun, but quickly move into the real power of Psalm 31. David's song moves from "me" to "us." That is, he moves from simply talking about what God does for him, to talking about what God does for all of His people. As anointed king, David is the repre...

Psalm 31 The line from this psalm lots of people know is the one Jesus quotes. "Into your hands I commit my spirit." When Jesus says it, it makes sense. He's talking about His death and His spirit leaving His body. But what does it mean for us? How do we do the same thing on a daily basis? The hint is found in another line: "My times are in your hand." Read the written dev...

Psalm 31 David demonstrates real trust in the Lord. Andrew and Edwin dig into what it really means to trust the Lord. They also face the hard facts about when we can actually claim to trust the Lord. And it isn't simply because when we can claim to have done what He says. We know David trusts the Lord because he kept doing what the Lord says and persevered in prayer even when it seemed like t...

Psalm 31 Though we seem to be moving away from the story of the sheep struggling to get to the house of the Lord, this psalm does have a connection to the previous. Andrew and Edwin take a look at the connection between Psalm 30:6 and Psalm 31:22. The former is said in pride from the mountaintop of self-righteousness, the latter from the dark valley of dismay. We see the pendulum swing between the...

Psalm 30 Andrew and Edwin talk about David's description of God's anger. If we read over it too quickly, we might miss exactly what it says. Psalm 29 We know, the name of this episode sounds familiar. Last week, we suggested the last two verses of Psalm 28 were David's victory song. But he opens that up in terrific ways in this psalm. Andrew and Edwin peel back another layer to see Psalm 29 as the capstone and the climax of a series of psalms in which David fears God will judge him along with the wicked and therefore he won't...

Psalm 28 Andrew and Edwin continue to uncover surprises in Psalm 28. We often think of the wicked as the really terrible, bad, awful people who do dreadfully disgusting things that everyone knows is just horrendous. However, that is not the wicked of Psalm 28. In fact, most people today wouldn't even recognize these wicked people as wicked. In fact, we might get a little concerned because the...

Psalm 27 David is surrounded by enemies. They are violent, hateful, wicked, evil. However, David's #1 goal is a bit shocking. It is all about God, His house, His presence, His face. Read the written devo that goes along with this episo...
