Man this is a real good one right here, I finally got to sit down with my man Deuce and talk some shop. I first met Deuce when he was an on air personality on Austin's Hot 93 in the early to mid 2000's. Hot 93 was a special place, and maybe one of the last commercial urban radio stations to keep it real witht heir community. Many of the cities most important players in the hip hop world worked the...

Finally got to sit down with my man Kiko Villamizar. Kiko is a multi-instrumentalist - musicologist - vocalist - comedian - intellectual bad ass dude who was born in Miami to a musical family who took him to Colombia as a youth and raised him on a coffee farm where he immersed himself in the sounds and tradition of his families native land. On today's podcast he talks about that journey and where...

Maaaaan this is a big one for me as I have been a fan of MOJOE for many years, and when we sat down to do this they informed me that I had never interviewed them before. Which is something I can't even fathom given the amount of times I have seen them live and how much I have listened to them and such. But I guess that is the case and this edition of Talk So Real is my first real talk with two of...

Continuing on with the podcast where I go and have some real talk with my friends, this week I sat down with Noah Tennefrancia to talk about a whole lot of thangs! If you are out and about in Austin's hip hop and electronic and more scenes you probably know Noah as he is always in the place. He is historically one of the biggest supporters of Austin music and music in general that I know and that'...

This might be my best All Music is World Music in a while. Maybe one that you, yes you can listen to all the way through. Like no skips as they say. I know sometimes I mess you up with the realness, it's too much, sometimes it's too noisy, maybe to vibey, I don't know. I know it's got to be hard for many of you though and well this time I tried to not trip out TOO hard. There may be some moment bu...

Three weeks in a row, here we go again as they say, another edition of All Music is World Music with Matt Sonzala. Talk So Real will return this week as well, don't you worry about that. Just trying to keep it real, and stay up on new musics from artists who did NOT play Lollapalooza. This weeks episode is the usual mess and as usual hit pushermania.com for more info and track list etc.

Here we go again, another week off to an incredible start for you me and everyone with sense enough to jam out and really kick it. Hope things are going well with you. This is a show you can jam at the desk, in the vehicle, at the shop, in the field, on a plane, a train, a boat, this show right here will jam anywhere at anytime. Feel free to hit that play button and maybe let me know where you are...

I've done talked enough! Talk So Real is the movement but I had to sit down last night and concoct a new All Music is World Music as it hath been too long. I needed this. I needed to sit and really listen to some new music and give it to you, friend. I think this one jams pretty hard, not sure how you will feel about it but I will tell you I'm not smacking anyone down with this one. No super surpr...

Oh man this is big, secure your internet as the whole world wide web gonna feel this one. On this kick off to America Day weekend we are joined in the studio by the one and only DJ Jester the Filipino Fist. His latest mixtape/CD - Made in USA (with DJ Marz on one side, Jester on the other) is out now in them streets and it's the first mixtape in a while that will make you THINK. So many levels to...

So honored to have my great friend Edica in the studio of sorts this week! We go way back to when I first came to Austin and she would help me promote shows and do SXSW things and all this, while she would work with cool artists like Houston's The Nice Guys and Dallas legends SoreLosers. She has always had her ears to the streets and when she made her transition into DJing she immediately began ex...

What the what? Heads are NOT ready for this one. Someone may need to reup the Hollerboard to make sure this one gets maximum penetration into the internets and all the real heads can know the deal. Stand up one time for my special guest Richard Henry. Richard has been a mainstay on the Austin scene for many years and has held many scenes on his back in a real way. Never afraid to take a chance or...

Man this week I got to sit down with Martin and Matt of one of my favorite bands, Grimy Styles to discuss a bit of their history and to get hyped up for their new album Late Pioneers of Psych Dub - out later this month. The boys are back and in their truest form. On this episode we discuss the bands history and how guitarist Matt Beebe's work in the studios of Jamaica with the sons of Joe Gibbs on...

With @eldusty in front of @producegoods Maaaaaaaaaan this one was a long time in the making! I have been wanting to sit down with the man El Dusty for a while now, as to me he is one of the most interesting musical artists in Texas, and beyond. The sounds he creates are next level and you never know what you will hear next. AND he is from Corpus Christi, Texas and I always have an interest in arti...

Continuing on with my podcast series in which I sit down and talk with my friends who do dope things, on this episode I get to sit down with one of the dopest, Coka Trevino! I have known Coka for some years through the music scene here in Austin, we both tend to like good musics and such, and I have watched her ascent in the Austin art community from the moment we met. She is a super trooper in th...

Oh man this is a very special episode and has been literally a couple years in the making. If you know anything about my history, you know that Serg taught me everything that I know about the internet. He had a blog before me and did a podcast before I really understood what a podcast was. The man has always been ahead of his time and is one of my main dudes in this world. On this episode we get i...

Man! This weeks episode is fire. I had the honor and the pleasure of chopping it up with a dude who has been deep behind the scenes in Austin and Texas hip hop and more. DJ Protege has been rocking crowds and producing records for a good while now. On this episode we talk about his early days as a DJ and a producer, recording and producing artists like Trae tha Truth, Z-Ro and ESG in his studio in...

This week I got to sit down with my good friend, and one of my favorite MC's from Austin, TX (or anywhere) Cha'keeta B! On the show we discuss why she calls herself a Femcee when she raps harder than many of the dudes out there, the Austin hip-hop community, the pandemic, all sorts of shit that you may or may not expect. This was a fun one. We debut her new single "The Comeback" which you can find...

The Mixtape Mechanic is back! DJ Rapid Ric and Carlos Hernandez of CH Customs have reunited to bring back the iconic Whut It Dew mixtape series/apparel line with new music and a whole lot of surprises dropping soon! In this episode we learn the origins of the whole imagery behind Whut It Dew and how Carlos and Ric built what they did back in the Texas Rap heydays of the 2000's. Ric tells stories o...

Welcome to the first in a series of Talk So Real throwback files - When Banner Met Bun! This is from my old radio show on KPFT in Houston, Damage Control. The night was September 12, 2002, I had just returned from New York City where we threw the release party for Devin the Dude's Just Tryin' to Live album. David Banner was in town producing tracks for Lil Flip, and at the time DJ Chill was Lil Fl...

Got a chance to sit down with my man Lance Scott Walker for this episode. Lance and I go way back in the scene in Houston but really connected when he and Peter Beste started working on the Houston Rap book and what would later become two editions of Houston Rap Tapes. I love Lance's style because he lets his subjects talk and tell the story themselves. Telling the story of Houston rap is no mean...

This one has been a long time coming, it's about time I have a real talk with one of my best friends in this whole musical journey, Bavu Blakes. His Twitter bio says it best: "Scholar Emcee deliberately walking through the intersection of Hip Hop, education, and spirituality; co-author of award-winning picture book El's Mirror." Bavu Blakes is one of the best MC's I've ever known, and we have been...

This is a real special one for me, as it should be for any fan of Texas rap. Salih Williams and his brothers have been a musical force on the Texas scene for many years, starting out with their family band that toured the Texas circuit way back in the day, to his rise around the turn of the century as the man behind MOST of the hits of the big Houston rap wave. "Still Tippin'," "Barre Baby," "Purp...

It's another new music explosion from Matt Sonzala. A journey as they say, around the musical world. No borders, no genres, no rules, no holds barred. Just sounds to soothe your soul in these trying times. Maybe not soothe, possibly just distract. FSU I know ya fill dat. Pray for the world and try to be happy.

Yeah well, it happens every year for the past I don't know how many at this point, but Matt Sonzala is back with his latest Holidaze Mix for the 2021 Season. Don't let anyone or anything stop your joy in the season, not even a huge mess in your flat or your mind state. We are going to get through EVERYTHING! Last year we said You Can't Lock Down Christmas, this year I almost called this one OmiChr...
