Manga in Your Ears

The White Sox were snowed out for three straight games and suck with runners in scoring position. It's baseball season. Also I went to a Rockies and Dodgers game recently, and those were very good experiences mostly because they didn't involve White Sox baseball (which is currently bad). But anyway, the future is soon. This episode, we're talking about CLAMP's Cardcaptor Sakura published by Dark H...

Baseball is finally back! Opening day happened, and several games were snowed out because the weather is ridiculous and unstoppable. The White Sox were, until recently, undefeated after come-from-behind victories against the hated Kansas City Royals, so it's been ok until they went to Canada. This episode, we're talking about Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita and Mitsuru Kubo's Again!!, both pub...

Well school has been kicking Helen's ass and I moved to California, so it's been a while since last time. But we're back and the same as ever! This episode, we're talking about Ichigo Takano's Orange published by Seven Seas and Hiromu Arakawa's Silver Spoon published by Yen Press. The song you heard at the top was "Oto no Naru Hō e" by Goose House from the Silver Spoon anime. Apryll said it was th...

This is the first time a Taiiku and Manga In Your Ears episode have hit the same day, and it probably won't be the last? Various circumstances will, I'm sure, press the matter once again and I'll be editing into the late evening hours editing once again months or years down the road. This episode, we're talking about Yoshitoki Ōima's A Silent Voice and To Your Eternity, both published by Kodansha....

Uh, I'm done editing the episode and I forgot to write my stupid introduction thing. Uhhhhh... Please sports pundits, stop saying the White Sox should sign Mike Moustakas. It's just a bad idea. This episode, we're talking about Makoto Yukimura's Planetes published by Dark Horse and Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu's The Promised Neverland published by Viz Media. That song you heard at the top was "Wo...

I just wrote one of these for the Taiiku Podcast three days ago, so I'm not really sure what to write this time. Today, I was able to eat dinner before recording this podcast, so I'm gonna count that as an accomplishment. It's the little things! This episode, we're talking about Arina Tanemura's Phantom Thief Jeanne and Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy both published by Viz Media. That song you heard at...

It's been in the negative 20s and 30s here recently, which is Very Cold. So we start the new year with the only way we know how, a cold that Helen and I both coincidentally got. Sorry for sounding nasal-y in this episode, but it's just what happens when it's Very Cold everywhere. This episode, we're talking about Miyuki Kobayashi and Natsumi Ando's Kitchen Princess published by Kodansha (formerly...

It's coming to the end of the anime season, and I've already finished Recovery of an MMO Junkie and Juni Taisen, with more coming in the following weeks. I always like the one week between seasons. Gives me time to procrastinate on watching everything else. This episode, we're talking about Ai Yazawa's Paradise Kiss published by Vertical Comics and Akiko Higashimura's Princess Jellyfish published...

Iowa State is in a bowl game! First time since 2012, and this time they are going to Memphis to play...the Memphis Tigers. This is a rig!!! This episode, we're talking about Kyousuke Motomi's QQ Sweeper and it's sequel manga, Queen's Quality , both published by Viz Media. That song you heard at the top of the episode was "Helpless" from the Hamilton soundtrack. As always, you can find me on Twitte...

Man, there is so much going on in baseball right now. And it isn't even the winter meetings yet! Derek Jeter and company are trying to get payroll way down for the Marlins, and the Cardinals and Giants have reportedly made trade offers for 59-homer-man Giancarlo Stanton. Meanwhile in Atlanta, they've had some hard penalties levied on them for breaking a variety of rules, including losing top prosp...

It's, goodness, two weeks away from Thanksgiving. The days get darker earlier, which sucks because now I leave work when it's dark outside. It's also getting cold in Iowa, and has been for a week or so, and I'm definitely getting back into the regular ways of cold mornings. It involves more snoozing of the alarm clock and heat. This episode, we're talking about Naoki Urasawa and Osamu Tezuka's Plu...

Episode lucky number seven, unlike the movie Lucky Number Slevin, which is an alright movie and has Lucy Liu, but anyway. The Dodgers and Astros are in the midst of the World Series as I type this and I'm missing the hot action (seriously, it's 90+ degrees in Los Angeles) as I type this, so let's get on with it! This time, we're talking about Moyoco Anno's Insufficient Direction published by Verti...

This has been a long time coming for I guess all of us, at least in terms of Complex Age. Apryll has a pull quote on the back of the volumes, and Helen and I previously covered volume one over on Taiiku. If it hasn't been obvious yet, our current series we're covering in this episode is Yui Sakuma's Complex Age published by Kodansha. And our classic series is Nobuaki Tadano's 7 Billion Needles pub...

Welcome to episode five! We're halfway to a milestone. Around this time in the Taiiku Podcast, I imagine I sort of had an idea of what the heck I was doing, and rolled with it. Then I learned a bunch of stuff I was doing wrong over the subsequent months, and general improving at editing, which I'm sure will be the case again come three years from now. But I digress. This time, we're talking about...

We're back on schedule, hopefully for the long haul this time (or at least until the holidays). This time, we're covering Kaoru Mori's Emma and HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara's Horimiya , both published by Yen Press. That song you heard at the top of the episode is "Silhouette of a Breeze" by Kunihiko Ryo from the Emma anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK , and my co-hosts Helen...

We're back from Otakon! Sorry for the delay, but we are finally here with our third episode. First up is Takako Shimura's Wandering Son published by Fantagraphics and Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga published by Kodansha USA. That song you heard at the top of the episode is " Endlessly Falling " by The Slants. Here is the podcast Helen and I did with Chris recapping our experiences at Otakon, which...

We're here with our second episode! This time, we're talking about Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket published by Yen Press and Kore Yamazaki's The Ancient Magus' Bride published by Seven Seas. That song you heard at the top of the episode is "Synchrogazer" by Nana Mizuki from the Symphogear anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK , and my co-hosts Helen ( @WanderinDreamr ) and Ap...

This is not an episode of the Taiiku Podcast! This is a new podcast called Manga In Your Ears, reviewing a currently published (or publishing) series as well as an already completed series. My co-hosts on this ride are Helen ( @WanderinDreamr ) and Apryll ( @manjiorin ), both of The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses . This episode we are covering Inio Asano's Solanin , published by Viz Media, a...
