NECROMANCER EP.146 – ONES THAT OBSERVE: SMILE 2 (2024) The necromancers honor their pop star film tour obligations with Bret’s horror pick, Smile 2. Being a pop star and a scream queen is not for the faint of heart but doing both at the same time, backwards, and in heels is something only Naomi Scott […]

THE DEVIL’S MOUTH MOVIE REVIEW A wise Pixar fish once sang, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” It’s a clever mantra reminding us all that when the storm hits, you’ve gotta hold onto hope and never give up. Amazon Prime presents The Devil’s Mouth, a survival-horror shark attack film set in the beautiful country of […]

NECROMANCER EP.145 – ONES THAT ENTERTAIN: MUSIC & LYRICS The necromancers are going on tour and saved you a seat on the bus, baby. Bret and Shira explore depictions of pop stars on film starting with Shira’s pick, Music & Lyrics (2007). Will Bret pull a Mariah Carey and claim “I don’t know him” when […]

THE VAMPIRE LESTAT SEASON 1 REVIEW String and tune up the guitar for utter chaos. Whether you’re a groupie, a new listener, or a tourist that wandered off from the group tour. Time to mosh in the pit, and wail along with the children of the night, oh what music they make. AMC Plus presents […]

NECROMANCER EP. 144 – GHOULFRIEND EXPERIENCE WITH DREW SHAW: EVIL DEAD II (1987) The necromancers take a ghouls trip with Drew Shaw to a little cabin in the woods which may or may not be inhabited by incorporeal terrors and a hero made of 100% boyfriend material. That’s right, we’re talking Evil Dead II: Dead […]

EVIL DEAD BURN MOVIE REVIEW The sixth entry (I say 7th since I am counting the great tv series Ash vs The Evil Dead) in the consistently good Evil Dead horror franchise is here and fans are excited. As has become the tradition, producers Raimi, Tapert, and Campbell have pulled from the horror indie scene […]

NECROMANCER EP. 143 – TAKE ME HIGHER: A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH (1946) The necromancers were just wrapping up their tour of love and terror in flight when they suddenly got lost in the dense fog over the English Channel. Shira’s unconventional pick, A Matter of Life and Death, lands her and Bret inside […]

WIDOW’S BAY SERIES REVIEW Summertime is upon us and there are plenty of spots to consider for vacation. Are you looking for cozy yet sophisticated, quaint yet modern, Martha’s Vineyard like locale yet affordable, to make memories with your family? A place that is definitely not cursed? Then you’re (not) looking for Widow’s Bay,  and […]

HUNGRY MOVIE REVIEW Don’t let the title fool you, Hungry has nothing to do with the classic board game, Hungry, Hungry Hippos. In fact, the film reminds us more than once that hippopotamuses are vegetarians so technically they aren’t even hungry, at least not for human flesh. They are, however, very territorial, even if that […]

NECROMANCER EP 142: PRETEND THAT AIRPLANES: BLOOD RED SKY Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are full of vampires? The necromancers don’t need to wish right now because Bret’s pick, Blood Red Sky (2021), is here to deliver. Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for turbulence because Shira ended up liking this one […]

LEVITICUS MOVIE REVIEW Horror is big in 2026 and I’m not just talking about having a visceral reaction to the current state of America. The studios with horror projects on their shelves are getting dollar signs in their eyes after the wild and unpredicted success of Obsession, Hokum, and Backrooms and everybody wants in. No […]

SACCHARINE MOVIE REVIEW Push it to the limit! Each journey begins with a first step! Each step, each rep, each bead of sweat gets you closer to your goal. It’s not about losing weight, it’s about gaining a life. Several unquotable motivational speaking sayings can be pulled out of thin air. What takes real effort […]

THE BOROUGHS SERIES REVIEW Grandpa Simpson once wrote an angry letter that read “When I read your magazine, I don’t see one wrinkled face or a single toothless grin. For shame! To the sickos at Modern Bride magazine” and “Dear Mr. President there are too many states nowadays. Please eliminate three. I am NOT a […]

NECROMANCER EP 141 – GHOULFRIEND EXPERIENCE WITH FRANK CALVILLO: HUSH…HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE The necromancers are joined by Frank Calvillo of Whatever Happened to Bette and Joan to share a common joy: resurrecting dead Hollywood stars. On the slab is who else but Bette Davis in Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964). Listen to our trio of […]

FIND YOUR FRIENDS MOVIE REVIEW Find Your Friends tells a story as old as time; college kids go to the country to party, only to be attacked by the homicidal locals. The recently single Amber (Helena Howard) and her besties decide to go on a road trip to Joshua Tree to attend a drug fueled […]

NECROMANCER EP 140 – THEY WERE ROOMMATES: ALUCARDA (1977) The Necromancers head to their last stop in the sapphic cinematic universe (for now). This convent may look ordinary, the ladies only roommates, but Bret’s horror pick, Alucarda, proves the devil is in the details. Will Shira share Guillermo del Toro’s admiration for the 1977 cult […]

THRASH MOVIE REVIEW It’s been 4 decades since Jaws chomped beach goers to an iconic John Williams score. Netflix is reminding us that it’s still not safe to get back into the water with the survival horror original feature Thrash. Dr. Dale Edwards (Djimon Hounsou) is an expert on the oldest predator on the planet, […]

MOTHER MARY MOVIE REVIEW Nothing is as passionate as a hate that was once love. This is the simmering tension between mega-popstar Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) and famous fashion designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel). Arriving unannounced at Sam’s giant English countryside mansion in the middle of a huge thunderstorm at night, the stage is set […]

BODYCAM MOVIE REVIEW “When you were eight and you had bad traits. You go to school and learn the golden rule. So why are you acting like a bloody fool? If you get hot then you must get cool!” These were lyrics in the song “Bad Boys” before the massively popular show “Cops” hit syndication, […]

EXIT 8 MOVIE REVIEW Imagine you’re coming out of the subway, going down those meticulously scrubbed (at least in Japan) white tile tunnels on your way to the surface. You’re looking at your phone and not really paying attention. Then, you notice no one else is around. One guy, seemingly oblivious to you, walks by […]

FORBIDDEN FRUITS MOVIE REVIEW The online discourse (in some disturbing corners) says you should pass on cinema made for and by women in the industry. That wouldn’t be very fetch of you, no cap. If you thought that was cringe, that’s because an adult wrote it after googling “Is Gen Z a thing, how does […]

THE SERPENT’S SKIN MOVIE REVIEW Since the dawn of time, snakes have been given a terrible rep. Sketchy marketing practice? Snake oil salesmen. Surprised by bad news? Snake in the grass! Really good at lying? Forked tongue, like a snake! Poor reptiles have suffered the slander for years but with that bad boy reputation also […]

THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT MOVIE REVIEW Based on the video game of the same name, The Mortuary Assistant stars Willa Holland as Rebecca, a young woman with a troubled past who has just completed her training as a mortician. One night, her boss, the mysterious Mr. Delver (Paul Sparks), asks her in to come in and […]

HOKUM MOVIE REVIEW While Irish director Damian McCarthy is a big name in the serious horror fan community, especially after two fantastic films Caveat (2020) and Oddity (2024), his latest film Hokum that premiered at SXSW might just be the one to break him wide. Adam Scott plays Ohm, a successful author on a trip […]

UNDERTONE MOVIE REVIEW We here at oneofus.net have some experience with recording/editing podcasts all alone at night in spooky houses (some of us doing it while a beloved family member lies dying nearby). For those of us who can identify, this is a potentially very unsettling situation. Thus it is for Evy (Nina Kiri) who […]
