Grace Road Church

Kevin, Cody, and Andrea talk about church online. Is that even a thing? Should it be?

Luke 8:26-39 Legion We need our faith during these times. But we’ve said often that faith isn’t in our faith. Christian Faith isn’t just being optimistic about the future. Christian Faith isn’t just feeling like the sun is going to shine again. The Christian faith has Jesus Christ as its object.  So let’s look to Him, and see him today in Luke as the one who triumphs over the darkness and restores...

Grace Roadshow Episode 1 Kevin, Andrea, and Cody talk over the coronavirus pandemic, the panic, and where God is in all of it. 3.19.20

Faith Over Fear Luke 8:22-25 Well, this morning, though many things are different for us, one thing is not, we are continuing in our sermon series through Luke’s Gospel, and in the providence of God our next passage is especially applicable for us today. This is probably a much more familiar passage for most than our passage last week. Luke 8:22-25… Luke 8:22-25 22 One day he got into a boat with...

Luke 8:16-21 Seeing the Light Christians are people who have come to trust in Jesus and to hang our lives on the reliability of the word of Jesus. We are people of the book.  The Bible has preserved for us the story of Jesus and the message of Jesus, and that story has so resonated with us and changed us that this has become an incredibly valuable book. Like a friend that gives us a valuable gift,...

The Sower Luke 8:1-15 We are spending more than a year walking through Luke’s Gospel, trying to allow it to have the effect it was intended to have, which is in Luke 1:4 “that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.” This story of Jesus builds our faith and addresses our doubts. And in today’s passage, we get something of a vaccine for one source of doubt, the deconversi...

Forgiven Much Luke 7:36-50 In conversations with many of you lately, I get the sense that many of us are feeling that it is an increasingly challenging time to live as a faithful Christian. The worldview of our non Christian neighbors continues to move farther and farther away from a Christian worldview. We probably sense how much we’re not at home here: its tough to feel at home in a political pa...

THIS MORNING In the next section of Luke’s gospel, Luke is going to return to a familiar theme, the theme of doubt. If you remember from the first sermon in our Luke series, Luke gives the main reason for his writing the gospel in the opening verses of chapter  Luke 1:1-4 So, Luke wanted to put together an orderly account of the life of Jesus, his teachings and miracles, the death and resurrection...

Luke 7:1-17 Worthy We are going to Luke 7 today. Luke 7:1-5  After he had finished all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. 2 Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. 3 When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. 4 And when they came to Jesus,...

We are going to Luke 6 today, to finish up the Sermon on the Plain. It’s a sermon Jesus preached with some of the same content as the Sermon on the Mount, but with a distinct audience, distinct emphasis, and it was preached in a different place.  And it is a huge blessing of God that He allowed the words of Jesus to be recorded for us in scripture. This is one of the biggest things that feeds our...

Judge with Grace Luke 6:37-42 This morning, we are going to continue in Luke 6, in Jesus’ sermon, sometimes called the Sermon on the Plain. And in this sermon Jesus as given the Beatitudes, promising that those who are poor, hungry, sorrowful, and persecuted will be cared for and vindicated in the kingdom of God one day in the future.

Circumstances for individuals in this life will not always be improved by Christianity, and it is no failure of Christianity when they are not. Christianity doesn’t promise prosperity here and now, it promises forgiveness and a resurrection and everlasting life. The biggest promises are for when Jesus returns.
