Geek Mentality

Wait, it's not March! What is going on? Well my friends - what is going on is the first ever Marchy McBonus episode as today your incredibly handsome and modest host went to see "Back to the Future: The Musical" in Boston. And while he was planning on going with Mrs. Geek Mentality - she was not feeling well so I tagged in my friend and Marchy McFly veterans Eric to come with me. And h...

Happy Superman Premiere day, Super Friends! We've hit the final episode of Silver Screen Superman (for now) as we have reached the main event. The reason I jumpstarted this project again. Superman is back. Back on the big screen in a brand new movie - which my wife and I went to go see today. All I can say is, and forgive me if this is too corny - but thank you James Gunn. Thank you for bringi...

Happy Superman Eve, nerds! I certainly didn't save the best for last with today's entry of Silver Screen Superman (who knows, maybe that's tomorrow?) - but I sure as hell saved the longest. Once again, I am back talking about a movie for the fourth time . Okay, so there are two different versions of this movie - and I talk about each one twice - but still, that's a lot of Justice L...

We are one step closer to Friday. One step closer to the new Superman movie. And today, we are also one step further in my Silver Screen Superman project, as I watch - again - and podcast about - again - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice . What's crazy is today is actually my fourth episode about this movie . I did one before seeing it, one after seeing it, and one for my Big Screen Batman p...

Superman week continues as today I reboot Silver Screen Superman again, just like Warner Bros. did when they brought in a new director in Zack Snyder and a new Superman in Henry Cavill. I saw this movie for the first time shortly after it was released - on a Monday afternoon with people from my office. I mentioned in this episode that I recorded my thoughts for an early version of Geek Mentality -...

Silver Screen Superman Returns! Happy Superman Week fellow nerds! I thought to myself, self - it's now or never to get " Silver Screen Superman " back on track. So I chose now. I mean technically, I could have done it anytime after now, but not before now - I just can't do it then. Because I'm in "now" now. What happened to then? I missed it. When? Just now. Anyway, I f...

And so we come to another close to another year of another movie month. But not before I watched another movie and did another podcast. I did not plan on using "another" so much, but I couldn't think of ano...of a different word. Anywho, today I watched the 2025 horror-drama Sinners that further cemented Ryan Coogler as one of the best directors today and Michael B. Jordan as a superst...

How did it feel!? To watch this movie? The answer my friend is - it felt friggin' great. Once again I am blown away by a Timothée Chalamet performance where he's singing. Hell, singing or playing in the sand , he's been pretty great in everything I've ever seen him in. So happy I decided to watch this as the penultimate movie for 2025. One day more!!!

Day 28! We've reached the final 3 movies of the month and today I returned to the Mia Goth trilogy of terror as I watched the finale, MaXXXine . I did enjoy this movie - probably not as much as Pearl, but overall this entire trilogy has been quite entertaining.

Wow. I just finished watching today's movie and that's the only word I can think of. Wow. While many of the movies I watch during this month are fun - this one was anything but. But? I thought it was pretty incredible. Scary. And incredible. (And after saving the entire episode I realized I forgot to mention their stop in a town that basically is ignoring the war is going on...but not real...

I just watched a movie that appears to be a love letter to old slasher movies, but in truth is an adaptation of a book that is the actual love letter to slasher movies. Or maybe it's both. Either way, I read this book. And its two sequels ( all three by author Adam Cesare ) - so how could I not watch this movie This was the first time I rented a movie through Plex, and although there were no s...

What a wonderful day to get Equalized! Today, I decided it was time to go back and see my old friend Robert McCall , who I first encountered last year. I'm very happy I decided to watch these movies - and I love Denzel in these. How can you not!?

I've wanted to watch this trilogy for a while. I liked X . I did. So I was looking forward to watching the next two in the series - and after watching today's movie, Pearl, the only thing I have left to wonder is if I will enjoy the third movie as much as I enjoyed this one. Oh and that amount of enjoyment could be best described as, love . Because I loved this movie, and I think I love Mi...

Anytime you can get a ragtag bunch of soldiers to team up and fight Nazis - count me in! Add to that it's directed by Guy Ritchie and stars a former Superman and a current Jack Reacher. Count me in again. This movie was just fun as hell. Ungentlemanly hell.

Guess who's back? Back again. Death is back. Killing friends....Today, I talk about the third entry into the Final Destination franchise and also about the very real anxiety that I have with some amusement park rides. This is the end of the line for Final Destination movies this year, but fear not - Death always comes back to finish what it started... Oh, and I added this late in yesterday&#39...

Live, from my podcast - it's day 21 of Movie Month! I planned on watching this movie earlier in the week and then thought - wait, how can I not wait for Saturday Night at 11:30pm? It just makes too much sense. Also, a huge shoutout and thank you to William Bruce West for mentioning me and this project in his latest edition of " West Week Ever ." Much appreciated!!

Shhhhh! You have the duty to remain silent. Anything you say can and will probably get you eaten by aliens. When we first came across these invaders of Earth, we were already years into a new world. A new reality. In today's movie - we go back to the day it all started. They day smart people realized - um, I'm probably better off alone than with a giant group of people. All it takes is one...

For the past (more than a) few Movie Months, I give my friend and co-host Chris one special wish. He gets to pick a movie for me to watch . Sometimes more than one - but always at least one. This year, not only did he pick the movie - but he joined for the the podcast in what might be my first Movie Month with a co-host (forgive me if I am wrong - and forgive me even more if you were that co-host....

You're not reading this wrong. Until today, I have never seen this movie. This movie came out during my first month of college. I was going to school for film at the time ( check out my 1995 film class final project .) Seems like a no brainer. I have no good excuse why I didn't see it then - and no real answer why it has eluded me for 31 years, including over 11 years of movie month. I&#39...

This movie gave me exactly what I was hoping for. Dumb fun. I was watching it going - this is kinda silly. This is kinda ridiculous. This isn't all that great...But wait a second - I am really enjoying myself. I guess you could say that's the....magic of the movie. Oof. I can't believe I typed that either.

It's deja vu all over again. We're now on the back-fifteen. The road in front of us is forever shorter than the road behind us! Today I return to the world of Final Destination with the 2nd movie in the series. Better characters. Better kills. Better all around. Just a better movie.

Happy Father's Day, everybody! Today I happened to celebreate by watching the sequel to 2019's JOKER , which I am pretty sure is the last time my dad and I went to the movies together. He's fine by the way (I made him hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill today) we just haven't gone to the movies since then. Anyway - this sequel was so badly received that I was almost giddy to see w...

This movie probably would have been better if every human character was removed except for Eddie (and even that is debatable). I wanted to see this to finish off the trilogy , but this might be the first true stinker of the month. There were a few things I liked about it. Just a few. I'm going to make you listen to find out what they are - also I haven't recored the episode at the time I t...

Happy Friday the 13th, everybody! Had I thought about it - I probably would have done a horror movie today instead of yesterday, but thems the breaks! Instead today I watched the 2025 Steven Soderbergh spy thriller Black Bag which was surprisingly short - but at the same time the perfect length. And it answers the age old question, are there more Skarsgårds out there? The answer, will aways be - y...

And just like that I decided to start another horror movie series. A trilogy in fact. I assume only a trilogy - but you never know. Today I start the Ti West/Mia Goth triple feature of horror with 2022's X. It was what I expected but also not quite what I expected. I quite enjoyed it and am looking forward to the other two. And yes, I covered my eyes a couple times...For the killing - not the....
