Foothills Fellowship ABQ Sermons

John 21:15-19 The restoration of Peter by Jesus after Peter denied Jesus three times is profound and beautiful. Jesus restored him to ministry and reaffirmed his call to be His disciple. Pastor Mike shows us that what Jesus did for Peter is what God does for us.

John 20:30-21:14 At the end of John 20, John seems to wrap up his gospel account - but then chapter 21 comes along. Pastor Mike walks us through this dynamic and helps us see what the significance may be of the gospel continuing with Jesus serving His disciples breakfast.

John 20:24-29 Once again, the resurrected Jesus appears to His disciples, but this time, Thomas is present. He's not convinced that Jesus has risen from the dead. He wants to see proof. Pastor Joe challenges us to see ourselves in Thomas - and encourages us to come to the same conclusion Thomas did.

John 20:19-23 On the evening of the resurrection, Jesus miraculously appeared to the disciples. The men disciples were shocked. The women disciples were justified. And Jesus had some pretty interesting things to say!

John 20:1-18 John's account of the resurrection of Jesus is not without some humor. Pastor Mike walks us through John's telling of the resurrection and draws our attention to some of John's humorous bias about his actions that day. But John is not the point of the story - Jesus is, and like all who were there that day did, Pastor Mike declares that He is risen! He is risen indeed!

John 19:17-27  Pastor Mike takes us through John's account of Jesus on the cross by also looking at the other three gospel accounts to give us the horrific yet beautiful picture of what Jesus suffered for us.

John 18:38-19:16  Jesus was condemned and crucified by Rome - but Rome was reluctant to do it. Pastor Mike walks us through the Roman trial of Jesus and shows us all of the moving parts and forces that led to it.

Pastor Joe walks us through this beautiful and powerful Psalm and encourages those of us who are going through difficult times that God is a God of redemption and will turn even difficult times into good.

Money is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible. Jesus said that we cannot serve both money and God. The Apostle Paul said that the love of money is the root of all evil. Pastor Mike takes a whack at talking about money, possessions, and the way of Jesus.

John 18:12-27 John is the only Gospel writer to take the denials of Peter and weave them together with the arrest and Jewish trial of Jesus. Pastor Mike explains what this literary device is and helps us see why John may have done this - and then offers us the challenge that John was getting at for all who would read this account.

Pastor Mike challenges the church to consider pressing-in to solitude during the season of Lent.

John 18:1-12 Jesus could have been arrested several times before He actually was. Several times, the Jewish authorities tried to arrest Jesus, but they were unable. However, when they finally did arrest Him, it was easy. Almost too easy. Pastor Mike explains how this shows us that God is in control of all things, and he encourages us to live our lives as if we actually believe this.

John 17:20-26 Unity is at an all-time low in our country. There are so many things that we allow to divide us as Americans. Sadly, this disunity is creeping into the church as well. In Jesus' final prayer, He asked the Father that those who followed Him back then and those who follow Him today would be "one." Unified. Pastor Mike helps us see what is the key to achieving this kind of unity.

John 17:13-19 Joy is a big deal to Jesus! As Jesus prays one final time for His disciples before His arrest, He asks that they would have the "full measure of joy" in them. And then He assures them of their identity in Him. At the end of Jesus' life, joy was on His mind, and Pastor Mike explains how joy should always be on our minds as well.

John 17:6-12 As Jesus begins to pray for His disciples right before His arrest, something that He says in His prayer is quite shocking, and it reveals something about how Jesus saw His disciples - and how He sees us.

John 17:1-5 As we move into studying Jesus' final prayer for His disciples, Pastor Joe sets up the context that will help ground us as we move through the rest of the prayer.

John 16:16-33 These are the final words Jesus spoke to His disciples before His arrest and death, and even though His message to them was that He was leaving them, He encouraged them to see it as part of the plan for Him overcoming the world. This is why He left them with the words, "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

John 16:12-15 As Jesus was preparing His disciples for life without Him, He spent quite a bit of time telling them about what to expect when the Holy Spirit would come to them. In this passage, Jesus specifically tells them that when the Holy Spirit comes, He will guide them into all truth and will even tell them things that are to come! Pastor Mike explores these two concepts of our life in the S...

John 16:1-11  Pastor Mike offers us Jesus words to His first disciples that prepared them for their new life in His Kingdom as words for us to prepare us for the new year. Jesus was concerned that as the disciples started this new life (without Him but filled with His Spirit) that the hardships they were about to face might cause them to fall away. So, right before His arrest, He reminds them of a...

Pastor Mike teams up with Melissa Eastman to deliver a message of hope and peace on Christmas Eve. It is the culmination of our Advent anticipation! The Prince of Peace has come, and He is calling all of us to be peace-makers in a world so desperate for peace.

Matthew 1:18-25 Sometimes when God shows up, things get complicated. Just ask Joseph! Pastor Mike talks about the complications we face as we anticipate the Lord's coming in our lives, and he explores ways we can cope and even move forward when we face them.

James 5:7-11 As we walk through the anticipation of Advent where we're encouraged to remember that Jesus - who came once before - will one day return, James reminds us that Jesus comes to us and for us often in our lives. In his letter to his scattered and oppressed congregation, he tells them to "be patient until the Lord’s coming." Pastor Mike explains that James wasn't telling them to patiently...

Isaiah 11:1-10 We learn from Isaiah that the Messiah who was promised some 700 years before Jesus came would be One who would have God's Spirit upon Him and would be wise, mighty, full of knowledge, would make judgments based on what’s real, true and right, and would bring justice to the needy and poor. For a nation headed toward destruction and captivity, this would be reason for a lot of hope fo...

Romans 13:11-14 Advent is a season of anticipation. As Christmas approaches, our anticipation builds - anticipation of time off work, time with family and friends, parties, food, gifts. Pastor Mike contends that all of this is good, but he challenges us to allow the anticipation of these things to ignite our anticipation of Christ's return.

John 15:9-11 Jesus told His disciples to remain in His love. What does this mean? How do we do this, and what will happen if we do?
