Does This Still Work?

Show Notes Look, a movie can be dumber than a box of rocks and still work…or not. We will discuss. But here is the real question, were drinking and dining establishments wildly understaffed in the late 80s? Because every place in this film looks packed and yet only one or two people seem to be on staff. WTF? Links You can rate and review us in these places (and more, probably) Does This Still Work...

Technically, a child abduction movie but as Disney is the producer the abduction is done for laughs. You see the abductor is an alien spaceship that sounds an awful lot like Pee Wee Herman. Definitely a kid's movie but does it still work? Living machines from out of space having nothing better to do with their time  help a bunch of New Yorkers hang on to a condemned building. Does that sound stupid? Sure. But maybe it still works? It's the movie that launched a sequel, a cartoon, a TV show and a remake. But does that mean it still works? Also, just how many montages can a 90 minute movie have? A lot of them, evidently.       Links You can rate and review us in these places (and more, probably) Does This Still Work? - TV Podcast https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/does-this-still-work-1088105 ‎Does This Still Work? on Apple P...

Our patreon people picked this minor Woody Allen movie. Can't say here if it still works but we can mention that the women are all age appropriate and nobody wants to bed an underage child.so that's different from Woody's usual fare. It's not a sequel. It's not a remake. It's simply another Bad Lieutenant but this time he's in New Orleans and he is Nicolas Cage. Before her Oscar willing performance here, Sally Field was a flying nun on TV and starred in a movie about smuggling 400 cases of Coors beer. So, this was a step up. We kick off union movie month (in March, get it?) with this chestnut from the forties picked by our Patreons. This comedy, about a boss spying on workers who want to form a union, was a box office hit back in its day. How does it hold up over eighty years later? Four guys in 2010 go back in time to the 1980s and do almost exactly the sort of humor you got out of many 1980s comedies. Now two guys in 2024 go back to 2010 and judge them for it. It's our 200th episode! To celebrate we hopped into a Tardis and went all the way back to 1949. Why? Because that's where you'll find Joe's favorite movie of all time, The Third Man. This movie was released on November 1,1967. 10 months later Joe was born. Coincidence? Probably.
