Over the last few years, we’ve had the utmost pleasure in highlighting an incredible music scene rooted across the ocean in Barcelona. Like the living, breathing entity that it is, the tendrils reach far and wide, connecting artists, and music lovers from around the world. Deep, rhythmic, pulsing low ends, frenetic half-time snares. Spiraling melodies and hypnotic elements all combine into an incr...

Rain falls here in Brooklyn as time marches on and the changing of seasons creeps ever so closer. The long days of summer wane, fall will soon be upon us. With the shift in seasons, comes a move inside, and for many, a period of recovery from a hectic summer season. Rosario Piscosquito aka Vidění’s forthcoming album ‘Ocean Resonance’ on Ambient Matter marks their second release on the Indefinite P...

Spanning multiple decades, the friendship between Markus Guentner and Joachim Spieth started with contributions to Kompakt’s Pop Ambient series in 2001. At the time, neither could anticipate how the future or their respective artistic paths would unfold. Over the years, both have been a guiding presence throughout their careers as they delve farther and farther into ambient and beyond. Striving fo...

With the summer festival season drifting into memory, it feels like the right moment to linger on one of the most thoughtfully shaped events in recent years. The Mostra Festival unfolded over the Easter weekend across two Barcelona locations, and what set it apart wasn’t just the programming, but the curation - a balance of trust, patience, and precision. The first two days leaned toward the ambie...

The launch of a label always says something about its ambitions. Some choose the visibility of a compilation, gathering tracks and names to cast a wide net. Others decide to start with a statement, trusting the strength of a single project to carry their voice. After more than a decade and a half of shaping Hungary’s underground through the Technokunst nights, the collective has made it clear whic...

There’s always that one set at Perpendicular that people talk about after. In 2024, it was Fhionbarra’s closer, a set that caught everyone's attention and ultimately became the reference point for the entire edition. Coming into this year, expectations were quietly building. The line-up mixed familiar crews with newer names from across Europe and beyond, with London showing up particularly strong....

Twisting and turning, like a live animal dancing through the air, Helium (Live Extract) gives a sense of movement and looseness that only a live performance can give. The flexing of voices and the undulating elements drifting and snapping back into form keep the ears attention locked in. Initially the track starts off fairly simple with a few textures and drum patterns, drawing listeners in, befor...

Hagva began in 2022 as a shared experiment between CP1 and Not Mass, artists closely tied to Milan’s Evolvere collective and Stagno Records. What started as a dialogue has grown into a practice of dismantling rhythm and building it back stronger, threading techno through post-club ruptures, industrial grit, and deep ambient undertones. From Evolvere’s underground nights in Milan to RSO Berlin, Mod...

The heat waves have subsided to a degree, breezes sweep the green trees throughout Brooklyn. After a break, I’m happy to be out walking again, street by street, watching life unfold in the warm New York summer. On the horizon though is my favorite time of the year, Fall will make itself known and plenty of good tidings with it. Track List: Ocralab - Velarium Purelink - Circle of Dust Caveman LSD -...

Some DJs treat genre boundaries like walls; others see them as doors. Craig Gonzalez belongs firmly to the latter camp. A staple of Detroit’s underground and a resident DJ at Paxahau’s Third Thursday monthly, he has long been drawn to what happens when techno’s linear propulsion collides with the restless syncopation of drum & bass. That liminal space, the “grey area” between the two, has become o...

There’s a special kind of trust when a festival makes someone a resident. For Les Chaos Ambiants, that someone is Lynne. We’ve partnered with this boutique French festival for the second year, sharing the sounds and stories behind their lakeside weekend in the wooded hills of Sommant. The festival thrives on curation that feels personal, lineups that move like chapters in a book, sound systems tun...

Closing sets come with built-in pressure. But at this year’s Perpendicular Festival, Saturday wrapped up not with spectacle, but with style. Valencia-based DJ and producer Facundo, a standout discovery from the city’s ever-surprising scene, took control of the final stretch with a set that was patient, fluid, and full of character. It moved with intent, keeping the energy alive without ever pushin...

Each August, something unusual happens on the quiet Åland Islands: a geodesic dome in the middle of the forest becomes a portal. For two days, the Kokong Festival transforms the Dome at Stallhagen into a living instrument, home to ambient drift, off-grid techno, experimental electronics, and the kind of late-night moments that only occur when sound, light, and space align perfectly. Now in its fou...

Raucous rumblings and club centered grooves are the name of the proverbial game today as we premiere the latest from English imprint, Crescent London. The four tracker adeptly displays a wide array of auditory scope from a duo known as Abstract man. Ranging from the half-time thematic opening through to a thumping finish, it’s a well rounded release that works in many situations. Flux, the title t...

The haze of Paral·lel festival has barely lifted, but we’re rewinding to another moment worth lingering on, February in Granada, at the Moonback club. There, under the warm glow of the Extramostra banner, Mostra linked up with the Klub Collective for a night that balanced local soul with an international touch. The lineup reads like a heads-only dream: Timnah, Antonio Vázquez, Refracted, and a sol...

things ive done sundays recently: - sat on the couch, watching horror movies on mute, drinking coffee, making tunes - drove to Footscray to help my friend Reis record his band - heated up leftover lebanese food and made a sort of shakshuka with it - hung out with my Mum, looking at family photos - nursed a hangover, drove to northcote plaza and bought 6 donut holes - made this mix Words by @joseph...

For more than a decade, Yard One have played the long game, releasing smart, often under-the-radar records that quietly land in the bags of selectors who value depth over hype. With Neuroglow EP, the duo circle back to their home base, Tact Recordings, not with nostalgia but with the same grounded confidence that’s defined their output since the beginning. “Synapse,” our premiere for today, captur...

Our Belgian connection runs deep, built on shared moments, mutual admiration, and a steady stream of talent that never seems to dry up. The latest to surface is Ben Kamal: Brussels-based DJ, promoter, and soon-to-be label boss. In recent years, Ben has been a staple in clubs like C12, Fuse, and Funke, as well as festivals like Paradise City and Horst. He’s carved out a sound that’s both precise an...

A return to New York after quality time spent with the family. These trips are a great mental break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Time seems to slow, ever so slightly as evenings spent behind the grill, watching the sun set through tendrils of smoke and the murmur of dinner time conversations truly make for some of my favorite moments. Track list: Patricia Wolf - Subconscious Familiarit...

Much like a being gliding through a dimly lit forest, smoothly shifting between the trees, and branches. Never once announcing themselves, or giving undue attention to itself until necessary. The aptly named Hunter builds and builds tension ever so higher before giving way in the final moments where all eyes shine on the scene ahead. Through deft use of chimes, flutes and guttural melodic growls,...

Sometimes music becomes a place. For Caldera, that place was Jevvers, a music studio hidden in a Brighton grove, where leaves rustled against the glass and machines glowed in the dim light. For nearly a decade, Jevvers was a refuge, a test lab, a temple. Now, Caldera is closing the door on that chapter. His new EP, Last Transmissions From Jevvers, out soon on Polish label DANS, is both a love lett...

When we first covered Les Chaos Ambiants, it was clear they weren’t aiming for the usual festival formula. Instead of big stages and brand sponsorships, they’re focused on how electronic music and art can interact with local identity and environmental urgency. For 2025, the festival returns to Sommant, right in the Morvan Regional Natural Park, continuing to build on this concept. There’s still ju...

Amsterdam’s Ratherlost crew has spent the past few years perfecting the art of the marathon rave. Their home base is Lofi, a cavernous warehouse where sound, light, and visuals fuse into long-haul journeys that stretch well past the 18-hour mark. But epic runtimes mean nothing without the right hands at the controls, and Ratherlost has proven it knows how to curate, pace, and execute like pros. Lo...

Mantras, repetitive actions, as words, and sounds, all have a similar effect on one's body. To recenter and provide space for introspection. From the physical to mental the benefits ring true, all supported at the core by a steady framework of inhaling and exhaling. Expanding on these concepts, the latest compilation by French imprint ‘Just Breathe’ continues their devotion to experimental and ava...

Distorted Waves VA 001 is the third release on Nadia Struiwigh’s label and marks a shift in scale and scope. Where previous outings were solo projects, this compilation opens the doors to a wider network of artists, ten contributors working from a single custom sample pack created by Struiwigh herself. The source material leans into sci-fi ambient territory: synthetic textures, artificial environm...
