It's time to mount up and mosey on down to Wild ARMS 3 with Deputy Scott okay I'll stop the cowboy shite. We're talking the Western inspired Wild ARMS 3 this week and it's a game/soundtrack that I've loved for many years so as soon as Scott suggested it I had to get him back on. Michiko Naruke's tunes are inspired by a lot of classic westerns, naturally, but she brings such a heart to them that is...

Happy New Year, all! Brian returns from one of our earlier episodes to talk about Dragon Spirit, a classic Namco game and the first soundtrack by VGM legend Shinji Hosoe. We talk a couple of different versions and then have a surprise track added in mid-recording. Join our Discord! Links of Note: Brian's Bluesky Misplaced Musings Pod VGATWTOE Existential Warfare Linktree CRT Artwork b...

This year for Christmas let's jump in to our hot red Ferarri and listen to some Outrun tunes. We're back to normal from Megami Tensei month with another bit of a grab bag episode of Sunsoft soundtracks. Boin, who previously joined us for a mini-episode on Journey to Silius returns to talk about a little bit of Blaster Master, a lot of GIMMICK and a little more about City Hunter for the PC Engine. Sunsoft are almost as well regarded for their soundtracks as for their games, if not more so,...

Our month of Megami Tensei closes with a great little pair of Shoji Meguro soundtracks for the Devil Summoner sub-series. These were both on the PS2 so have a very similar sound to what was in Persona 3 and especially the Digital Devil Saga games which we previously did an episode on way back in episode 4. Thanks to Aden for being able to join us to talk about these games and their very good sound...

Third episode in our Megami Tensei month is a lesser known SNES duo of Strategy RPGs called Majin Tensei. The music by Hidehito Aoki is stunning and really pushes the SNES to its limits, there's hints of techno-industrial and early Synthwave throughout that give both games a real grimy aesthetic. Definitely worth checking out. Thanks to Teeps for joining us on short notice! Join our Discord! Lin...

Back for week 2 of Megami Tensei month and it's finally time for me to talk about Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. It's one of my favourite RPGs on the Wii U/Switch and a real highlight in the series for me which is in no small part due to the music being exceptionally good even for a series that has notably great music as-is. Even though I don't really enjoy Fire Emblem, but the Fire Emblem stuff is mo...

We're going weekly for the month of November to talk about a bunch of Megaten soundtracks that I think deserve a bit more attention. Professor Tom of Shujin Academy VGM Club joins us to kick things off with some chat about Persona Q2, a Persona 5 Spinoff for the 3DS based on the Etrian Odyssey series. Enter the labyrinth with us and listen to some nice new tracks as well as great arrangements of t...

Just me and Reese for this one and it's one we've been trying to get to for a while. Sayonara Wild Hearts is an album as an endless runner rail shooter rhythm game and as such it really should be played to get the full experience, but the music is excellent and we had a great chat about the game and how it weaves music and narrative. Join our Discord! Links of Note: VGATWTOE Existential Warfa...

Returning Champion Conqy joins us to talk about Mirror's Edge. Itself a fairly interesting game with some neat gameplay, however the main event here is the soundtrack by the Psytrance/Psybient artist Solar Fields whose synth heavy score provides the perfect backdrop for futuristic parkour and kicking guys off helicopters. Join our Discord! Links of Note: Follow Conqy on X the everything app C...

This week we are joined by Kaye Ross of Duckfeed.tv to talk about one of my all time favourites: Chrono Cross. The sequel to Chrono Trigger is often unjustly maligned however the soundtrack is one of Yasunori Mitsuda's finest works so whatever your feelings on the game may be, I hope you enjoy the music with us! Join our Discord! Links of Note: Duckfeed.tv VGATWTOE Existential Warfare Li...

Join our Discord! This week we return to Hell with Treyt in tow to talk about DOOM 2016's incredible djent-electronic masterpiece by Mick Gordon. We're gonna finally crack open the can of worms called Touhou. There's an absolutely huge pool of music and games to talk about here but Justus returns from our previous shmup episode to talk about three of the more accessible ones and give us a bit of an education on the series, Zun, and FM Synth. Join our Discord! Links of Note: VGATWTOE Existential Warfare Linktree Reese's Bluesky R...

Join our Discord! It's episode 50 and I'm delighted to finally have my friend Josh come on and talk about the NiGHTS games for Sega Saturn and the Wii. These quirky platformers have some truly beautiful music along with a lot of Sonic and Monkey Ball style bangers. Thanks to everyone for listening these last 50 episodes and hopefully will be around for 50 more! Links of Note: Josh's Twitch Chan...

Join our Discord! This week we're joined by Thuly to talk about Quintet's Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma, along with Granstream Saga. Often considered part of a loose thematic series called "Heaven and Earth" the games deal a with a lot of similar ideas of creation and destruction, usually with some great tunes to go along with them. Some more pedantic people will say Granstream S...

Join our Discord! It's time to talk some Mega Man and my good friend and Mega Man obsessive Mike was good enough to give his time so we can talk about the first 3 NES games and their respective soundtracks. These are some of the most iconic soundtracks on the NES so we were really hyped to talk about them. Enjoy! Links of Note: Mike's Twitter VGATWTOE Existential Warfare Linktree Reese...

Join our Discord! Just a goofy little bonus episode this week. Thuly joins us for a little chat about FFV, Gilgamesh and the Four Job Fiesta and we listen to a bunch of different versions of the Clash on the Big Bridge track from FFV because Square-Enix composers can't help but come back to the tune, and rightly so! This week we're going to monkey around with Treyt who wanted to talk about the Gamecube Monkey Ball games. Intensely frustrating (to me) games that nonetheless have some great music from some SEGA stalwarts full of lush breakbeats, JSR style funk and disco, and Sonic Adventure guitars. Join our Discord! Links of Note: Treyt's Twitter Treyt's Youtube Channel VGATWTOE Existential Warfare...
