Comic Picks By The Glick

Comic Picks #232: X-23/Old Man Logan 09.03.2017 24:28 ↓

The new movie is great.  As for the comics which helped inspire it, well...

Comic Picks #231: Chew 23.02.2017 16:20 ↓

John Layman and Rob Guillory's great, demented series comes to an end and I try to find out if the series was well-planned enough to make its ending work.

Comic Picks #230: Lone Wolf & Cub 09.02.2017 31:48 ↓

The original series is a justified classic, while its long-delayed sequel manages a few redeeming qualities.

Comic Picks #229: Tom King 26.01.2017 37:46 ↓

By most people's standards, he's the next big thing in comic book writing.  Not mine, however.

Comic Picks #228: Best of 2016 12.01.2017 37:48 ↓

Hickman!  Kirkman!  Mignola!  Matsui!  Gillen (x2)!  Tsubaki!  All of these creators and more can be found on my list.

Comic Picks #227: Star Wars -- Darth Vader 29.12.2016 21:53 ↓

Gillen and Larroca's epic about Vader's fall and rise is the best "Star Wars" comic to come out of Marvel and a must-read for all franchise fans.

Comic Picks #226: X-Men -- Apocalypse Wars 15.12.2016 26:49 ↓

A deeply uneven thematic crossover where the one series I was prepared to ignore offered up the best story.

Comic Picks #225: Attack on Titan 01.12.2016 24:23 ↓

My initial thoughts were that it was terrible.  Now I'm giving it a second try with the "Anthology" and first "Colossal Edition."

Comic Picks #224: Transmetropolitan 17.11.2016 25:03 ↓

In light of our recent election I really had no choice but to revisit Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson's eerily prescient and essential series.

Comic Picks #223: Doctor Strange 03.11.2016 29:05 ↓

Regardless of how the movie turns out, there have been lots of good stories (and some not so good) featuring Marvel's Sorceror Supreme.

Comic Picks #222: Bloom County 20.10.2016 21:34 ↓

The classic strips from Berkeley Breathed's comic in the 80's are the best way to relive the decade, but as for its current revival...

Comic Picks #221: Velvet 06.10.2016 15:05 ↓

This spy series from Brubaker and Epting is great fun, so long as you're only admiring its surface.

Comic Picks #220: Kosuke Fujishima 22.09.2016 26:49 ↓

He'll always be best known as the creator of "Oh My Goddess," but that doesn't mean it's the only title of his you should check out.

Comic Picks #219: What's On My Kindle? 08.09.2016 18:12 ↓

The answer:  Lots of cheap stuff from the likes of Vaughan, Hill, Wood, Mignola, Kindt, and more (including some re-bought Gillen)!

Comic Picks #218: Tezuka's Kickstarters 25.08.2016 32:06 ↓

Digital Manga utilized the crowdfunding platform to bring us a very uneven selection of works from the God of Manga.

Comic Picks #217: Suicide Squad 11.08.2016 25:25 ↓

I haven't seen the movie yet, because the classic run from John Ostrander (and Kim Yale) satisfies my craving for the squad's adventures.

Comic Picks #216: The Fade Out 28.07.2016 15:47 ↓

It's a newly-minted Eisner-winning series and a return to form for Brubaker and Phillips.

Comic Picks #215: Bendis' X-Men 14.07.2016 27:06 ↓

It's a run that has its moments, but no real plan or satisfying follow-through.

Comic Picks #214: A Silent Voice 30.06.2016 17:48 ↓

The first volume of this series about childhood bullying and teen atonement is brilliant.  The six that follow are still pretty good.

Comic Picks #213: Sergio Aragones' Groo 16.06.2016 19:37 ↓

Comics' greatest one-note joke has the legs to tackle everything from sword and sorcery parodies to the 2008 financial crash.

Comic Picks #212: Molester Man/Onani Master Kurosawa 02.06.2016 27:01 ↓

My friend Steve joins us again at Fanime.  This time, to talk about some manga he actually likes! (The con was awesome, as usual.  Expect my thoughts on it this Friday.)

Comic Picks #211: The Goon (Full Return) 26.05.2016 18:56 ↓

Fifteen volumes in and still more on the way.  Except I'm now done with this once-great series.

Comic Picks #210: Knights of Sidonia 12.05.2016 22:14 ↓

Tsutomu Nihei's latest series may be his most conventional, but it may be his most entertaining as well.

Comic Picks #209: WonderCon Roundup! 28.04.2016 34:45 ↓

Jodorowsky!  Manara!  Kirkman!  Miller!  Simonson!  Waid!  Milligan!  Arakawa!  All in this podcast (most for 50% off)!

Comic Picks #208: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 14.04.2016 53:51 ↓

Myron joins us to talk about the Heroes in a Half-Shell's history while I talk up the new comics from IDW.
