Again With This: Dawson's, Melrose, 90210

Noel is organizing a floor party, and Felicity’s expectations for her first college party are stratospheric: she can’t wait to invite Ben, and for him to come that night, and see her, and like the way she looks, and for HER to like the way HE looks, and for them to dance all night and then go back to her room to…talk. Although, as she tells Sally, she has dared to imagine what it might be like to...

When Pacey picks up a Sure Thing at a networking banquet for which he’s enlisted Joey to be his fake date, he has to stop on the way back to her dorm to get, what else, condoms. Their refusal to respect Kmart’s practices to keep customers from entering in the moments before the store closes leads to their getting locked inside. Since their predicament is a very low priority for the police, Joey an...

Felicity is just trying to figure out the new normal now that Ben knows why Felicity’s there, Felicity knows Ben never had a brother who died, and Julie knows Felicity isn’t totally over Ben. When she hears that a young man has called the admissions office trying to get a copy of her application essay, she assumes it was Ben trying to get them back on equal footing, and mails him a copy. Then she...

The writers’ ambivalent (if not outright confused) views about excessive drinking are inflicted on us once again as Pacey throws himself a belated housewarming party to celebrate a Best Buy shopping spree. At least one of your co-hosts is disgusted by the portrayal of female characters uniformly disdaining the new giant TV; all the dudes are firmly in favor, including Gus, Emma’s fiancé? Yep, turn...

Felicity Porter (Keri Russell) is at her commencement, realizing she’s not as happy about the life her parents have mapped out for her: doing all her schooling at Stanford to become a doctor, exactly like her dad. So when she bravely asks her crush, Ben (Scott Speedman) to become the second person to sign her senior yearbook and finds out he’s going to “New York” for college, she finds her accepta...

We’re off this week but we bring you three Again With Again With This episodes from the club vault. AWAWT 253: Let’s Watch Joshua Jackson In Cruel Intentions! How to reinvent Les Liaisons Dangereuses for the late 20th century Youthquake moment? Set it among Upper East Side high school brats, and throw in a couple of stars from The WB! AWAWT 254: Let’s Watch Robin Dunne In Cruel Intentions 2! A TV...

After Joey found Audrey unconscious at the end of the previous episode, she got in touch with the Liddells offscreen, and arrangements have been made for Audrey to enter a rehab program in the Los Angeles area. Except, whoops, no one thought this person deep in substance misuse disorder might pretend to head for the airport, then actually find a karaoke bar, bring a guy named Bob (Seth Rogen!) bac...

Following her sheepish west coast reunion with Dawson, Audrey returns to Boston. Smoothing things over is pretty easy with MOST of her friends, but Emma and the other Hell’s Belles need more convincing, especially with a gig opening for Loudermilk just hours away. Audrey convinces Emma to give her another chance, and probably really believes all her promises about turning over a new leaf when she...

We’re following the teens of Dawson’s Creek through each day of a particularly eventful week. Joey, back at school after the holidays, is leaving dozens of messages for Eddie that are going unreturned, and she’s not the only one looking for him: Harley’s back, too. Jen has finally been worn down on volunteering at The Stand, and she must really be committed if she’s letting CJ train her at this st...

It’s the holidays, but not the peace on earth/goodwill to men kind. Joey weirds Eddie out by inviting him back to Capeside, which he declines, opening the door for Joey to make the same invitation to Audrey after Audrey drunkenly misses her flight back to Los Angeles. Pacey can’t wait to drive his new Beemer up to the Witter house and rub his family’s collective nose in all his financial success....

Finals are almost over, but the universe is punishing Joey by scheduling Hetson’s after nearly everyone else is done, and she can’t find a quiet place to study. Eddie’s offer to borrow his apartment while he’s at work is both generous and maybe a little strategic, since they do end up fooling around in a naked way that’s so tiring Joey falls back to sleep and misses most of the exam. As we all kno...

Before Todd got into the flop movie business, he was a very well regarded music video director, which is how he knows No Doubt; that they are keeping tabs on him enough to give him like a dozen comps is kind of a surprise, but sure, why the hell not. Dawson gives them to Jen to distribute. Joey and Eddie get a pair, Eddie discovering while Joey hard-sells him that she expects their first date to b...

As we know, Audrey is not doing so great. But since she’s being louder and crazier than ever before instead of talking to anyone about it, no one can quite tell exactly what’s going on until she starts pounding shots ahead of her latest Hell’s Belles gig and getting nasty to Eddie while Joey stands by uselessly. Actually, one person can tell what’s going on: CJ, and this is the episode where we fi...

It’s Halloween, and what do you know: the stage where Todd’s shooting his movie has spooooooky lore. Never mind that this is clearly all taking place in a warehouse that was MAYBE built in the mid-70s: a flash of an old screen test in some of Todd’s dailies leads him and Natasha to tell Dawson the story of Melanie Ray, a 50s movie star whose co-star husband found out she was having an affair with...

Two pairs of sparring partners are still trapped in emotional tar pits: Joey can’t stop being hostile to Eddie, while even the Series 7-obsessed Pacey can’t help noticing that Audrey seems preoccupied by something, though he’s got so much studying to do that when she says she doesn’t want to talk about it, he’s only too happy not to press the matter. Joey is shaken out of her assumptions about Edd...

We’re off this week but we bring you two Again With Again With This episodes from the club vault. AWAWT 201: Let’s Watch Michelle Williams In  The Station Agent ! Peter Dinklage plays a train enthusiast recovering from potentially terminal loneliness. An adorable blonde library staffer helps him on his journey. AWAWT 246: Let’s Watch Michelle Williams In  Dick ! In addition to a bunch of thinkpiec...

Dawson is back on set in Boston for the first day of shooting, and things aren’t going great. For one thing, Todd fired the PA who was supposed to pick up the leading lady at the airport, and someone who was already “a handful” to begin with doesn’t get any more mellow after being made to wait an hour. Back at Hell’s Kitchen, Eddie goes from a lecture about On The Road from Joey to a huge catering...

Joey’s got a lot of big feelings about how she and Dawson left things at the end of the previous episode, and she decides the best way to get them to him is via email. Then she sends it without noticing she has sent it not to Dawson but to “Campus Wide,” as in the entire Worthington student AND employee email list, because she clicked “send” WITH HER EYES CLOSED. Aren’t students at Fake Harvard su...

The hours following the long-delayed consummation of Dawson and Joey’s intermittently romantic relationship are spent intermittently trying to define what it all means before Joey ends up at the set of Todd’s movie and finds out…Dawson has turned it into his childhood home. Should Joey be alarmed that Dawson’s dragging them both into the past? Should Dawson read into the fact that she seems so int...

After spending a summer in their various silos, the credits cast are reuniting in Boston. Jen’s happy her parents are getting divorced; she’s not so thrilled that Grams is looking to expand her horizons. Jack had an offscreen relationship with Eric, and is now sneaking multiple guys (one at a time) out of Grams Manor as part of his continuing offscreen sex life. Audrey’s convinced that after her f...

The school year is over and everyone is TRYING to move on to their next adventures, but figures from their past are getting in the way. A delayed flight lets Jack reunite with Eric, who’s decided against spending the summer trying to come out to his parents and has returned to Boston to work on himself. Jen is eager to get to Costa Rica, but as soon as Dawson finds out about her parents’ invitatio...

Schoooooooool’s! Out! For! Summer! Joey clears out her dorm room, bringing Audrey home to see if Capeside is as thrilling in person as it has been in Joey’s undoubtedly stultifying stories. Dawson gives them a lift, and manages to wait until the next day to tell Audrey that his new agent has found a producer in L.A. who wants to mentor him and Oliver on possibly remaking their movie into something...

Season 5 is almost over, and so is the semester at Worthington AND Boston Bay Colleges. While Joey stays put trying to study for multiple exams, everyone else rolls through to include her in their business. Dawson giggles so much at This Is Spinal Tap that Joey kicks him out to a screening of sex, lies, and videotape , where he runs into Amy fleeing Storytelling , and the two decide to spend the n...

Aggressive Mediocrity has been offered the gig of a lifetime: a ten-city tour supporting a Go-Go’s tribute band! If Charlie had any family that cared about him even a little, they might be telling him he shouldn’t drop out of his college classes in the hopes that he’s going to make it big with his college-town cover band, but he doesn’t, which is why he’s not only planning to go, but thinks Joey s...
