The Other Half

Flight of the Navigator is another one of those Disney+ movies. Hopefully, it's more like a Return to Oz and less like a Can of Worms. This movie is clearly a kid's version of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Does it even hold a candle to that wonderful timeless movie? UGH, I'm so sad. We didn't find out about this until after the movie, but apparently the child actor from this...

Can of Worms more like Can of Penises! In one of our most phallic episodes ever, the boys lose their minds over what appears to be one of the worst movies on Disney+. Sometimes the Disney channel original movie just fails us all. Maybe it was good back in the day, but it just doesn't hold up. But hey it stars the mom (Erika Christensen) from Parenthood at least? Return to Oz is as if Dorthey stepped into the Dark Crystal universe while walking down the yellow brick road. Dorthey returns back to the land of Oz after suffering massive PTSD from losing her home. Made in 1985, this movie features a plethora of practical effects and claymation. It was hated by Disney and was a massive failure at the box office. But the sheer grim weirdness of this film allowed...

Not sure if we've ever been as divided about a movie as George of the Jungle 2. A sequel that clearly had almost no budget or notable (in-person) talent, but it looked like it was at least a lot of fun to shoot. This time George, who has been recast, has to learn what's more important to him: his wife Ursula and kid or his kingdom. Shame, because while he's dealing with that, Mean Lion...

Beaches is a classic hit movie about a couple of life long friends. With such different lives, they shouldn't probably be life long friends, but hey life is weird like that. Starring Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey, Beaches was a flop with the critics, but a huge hit with the fans. The theme song from it actually was number one on the Billboard chart. But over 30 years later, does this movie...

The Fanatic is a movie that proves that John Travolta has some sort of eternal debt he has to pay off by taking awful and humiliating movie roles. John Travolta plays a mentally challenged "fan" who goes "psycho" and stalks the man he is a fan of. None of his friends stop him. He seems to be encouraged by society. Also, people are mean to him for no reason. It's like the Joker,...

Also, we predict what will actually win this year's best picture! It's a nice little discussion that doesn't depress us at all. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the...

Wake up your dad it's time for Ford V Ferrari! Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, this movie is about two dudes who just love racing and working on cars. Unfortunately, a little spat erupts between Ford Motor Company and Ferrari and ruins the whole thing. Please bear with us as we try to talk about cars and rich people fighting with huge wades of cash and resources. Check out https://shop...

The second entry into our Oscar month is Marriage Story! Marriage Story is a semi-autobiographical movie from Noah Baumbach starring Scarlett Johanson and Adam Driver. It's about two people getting divorced and all of the emotions that surround such an event. The main thing I got from this is that child evaluators are weird. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the s...

Joaquin Phoenix is the Joker! In Todd Phillip's somewhat controversial movie, Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck. A comedian with mental issues down on his luck. All he wants to do is make the world laugh, but the world doesn't like him, man. IT DOESN'T LIKE HIM DAMNIT AND HE JUST WANTS TO MAKE THE HAPPY STILL ANYWAY?! BANG BANG EVERYONE IS DEAD. Also, Robert Deniro is in this movie. C...

The Holy Flame of the Martial World is a wild ass, balls to the walls movie. The plot comes at you fast and hard along with the insane high-wire action. We follow a brother and sister who have the idea to get revenge on the one super dope-ass white hair lady who killed their parents. There's also a lady called "Snake Boy". It rules. Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to he...

Sid and Nancy depicts the bass player from the Sex Pistols, Sid Vicious, and his self-destructing relationship with his girlfriend Nancy. It's a weirdly simple name for a movie. This movie is hard to watch. It's two people with not a care in the world drink and drug themselves to death. But it does spark interesting Google searches like, what's the drug you do off of the spoon? Check o...

Our last episode of this holiday season is Last Christmas starring Emilia Clark and Henry Golding. Emilia Clark is a rude person and she needs to learn the lesson of not being so selfish during the holidays. Luckily a new man enters her life to teach her to not be so inconsiderate to her friends and family. But this new man seems kinda weird, what's his deal? Why is this movie actually called...

The Man Who Invented Christmas is another take on The Christmas Carol but from the perspective of Charles Dickens. This movie portrays Mr. Dickens, Dan Stevens, as a man who just loves giving all his money away! Too much so that he has to ensure his latest Christmas novel is a hit or else his family will fall farther into crippling debt. It's soo much pressure! Basically The Man Who Invented C...

The newcomer on the block, Disney+ is here to bring the holiday cheer with Noelle! Noelle stars Anna Kendrick as Noelle Claus who is just there to help her brother, Nick played by Bill Hader, learn to become Santa after real Santa died of mysterious causes. Apparently, this movie was too bad to release in theaters so to the streaming service dumping grounds it goes. Check out https://shop.theother...

Sometimes you have to just Let It Snow. Season's Streamings! It's time to dive into the dumpster fire of movies made to keep you using *insert streaming service here* through the holidays! Perhaps, our podcast episode on A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood went a little long, but we absolutely couldn't contain our love of this movie. A lot of biopics are dry, predictable and sappy. This movie, starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, focuses on a jaded journalist, who doesn't quite believe Rogers is as good as he seems. This movie takes a huge risk by framing the story as an actua...

Arguably John Hughes' most famous movie, the boys grab a seat to hang out with The Breakfast Club. We dive in to find out if this movie age as poorly as Sixteen Candles. The short answer is "no it holds up." *mostly Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! The boys take a dive back into Bollywood with Andhadhun! "The Blind Melody" is a rough English translation of Andhadhun. This fantastic black comedy crime movie took both of the boys by surprise when watching it for the podcast. You can find it for free on Netflix right now which we highly recommend watching beforehand because man some of the places this movie goes are wild. Check out http...

Mike and Ethan reexamine Doctor Who: The Movie and test their knowledge on one of the oldest franchises. In this episode, we question, what is a Timelord, who is the master, how many TARDIS are there, and why do British people think Americans like gummies so much? As you can see.... we are no experts on the matter. Turns out it's more like Doctor...Who? Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodca...

Ray returns to round out 2019's Spooktacular podcasts with cult classic Jason X. This may be our best Spooktacular episode yet. Ray thought we'd hate this movie, but he was dead wrong. How could we not love a man in a hockey mask, murdering teens in space? Check out https://shop.theotherhalfpodcast.com/ to help support the show and get your room some cool art! Andy returns to the podcast to bring a classic horror movie, The Wicker Man. He saw it as a kid and just had to bring it on to reevaluate if it was still good. He didn't think it held up, but perhaps Mike and Ethan will think differently. The story is simple. A policeman goes to a strange island town to investigate reports of a missing girl. Only he finds out that the town is not quite what it...

After burning bridges by suggesting Madea month, Mia has returned to the podcast to redeem herself with The Awakening. It's a British horror movie that starts off pretty scary actually, but then it turns into bat-shit insane territory. This movie stars Rebecca Hall a skeptic ghost hunter who is called to a charter school when a young boy ends up dead. There's also Dominic West, you may kno...

Dolls feature a goofy lookin' dude who looks like Sean Austin protecting a child from own evil parents. Phelan joins the boys to bring them this spookily off-beat movie. This campy horror film is brought to you by the same director of notoriously campy movie Reanimator. Stop motion dolls moving around like an old King Kong movie is scary and actually kind of cool looking. Also, there's lot...
