In this week, Paul focusses on the roles of a husband and wife and compares these to the love Christ has for us. It's important for Christians to debunk the definition the world has given of what a successful marriage looks like, and instead lean on the wisdom God has given and shown through His Word. “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”  ( Ephesians 5:15-17, ESV ) . Now more than ever, Paul's message of being set apart as Christians seems challenging, but we can see that challenges have always been there, as seen with the people in E...

THE SOURCE As we read Paul’s sharp critique of the corrupt, Gentile lifestyle, we should recall his conviction that Gentiles are redeemed by God through Christ and offered full partnership in the people of God ( Eph. 2:11–22, Eph. 3:1–13 ). In  Ephesians 4:17–19 , then, he is offering a limited and negative description of “Gentiles in the flesh” ( Eph. 2:11 ). Paul is not just concerned about spec...

In  Ephesians 4:1-16 , Paul advocates for the unity of the church and recruits everyone to foster it actively. While unity is a theological certainty  ( Eph. 4:4-6 ) , it does require our hard work  ( Eph. 4:3 ) . One way we foster unity is by being active “parts” of the body of Christ  ( Eph. 4:7-16 ) . Each of us is a part of the body and should contribute to its health and growth  ( Eph. 4:7 , ...

We continue with the concept of unity in Christ, with Paul informing the people in Ephesus of the Mystery of the Gospel, and keeping them (us) encouraged in spite of his current situation. We can take a leaf out of Paul's book and see why it is important to 'encourage one another and build each other up...' 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Catch the full lesson study here Sunday - Paul: Imprisoned...

The Cross is important as Jesus died, not just for a particular denomination, or a specific tribe, but for all who believe and receive His Salvation. Therefore, there should not be any division amongst His followers. "...so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." (Romans 12:5). Sunday - The Judgment, Creation and Accountability The message of the three angels flying in midair in Revelation 14 announces that “the hour of His judgment has come” ( Rev. 14:7, NKJV ). Since we were created by God with the capacity to make moral choices, we are responsible for the decisions we make. If we were merely a random collection of cells, products of our heredity and environment only,...

It’s easy to take things for granted, particularly things that we have always known or experienced. How easy, for instance, for young children to take their parents for granted, whom they have known all their short lives? How easy for us, too, to take for granted the sun, the sky, the air, or the ground beneath our feet. “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You create...

Sunday - The Cleansing of The Sanctuary Each Jew clearly understood the meaning of the cleansing of the earthly sanctuary. It occurred on the Day of Atonement, which was the day of judgment. Although Daniel understood the concept of the cleansing of the sanctuary and the judgment, he was confused about these 2300 days. At the end of Daniel 8, Daniel fainted and exclaimed, “I was astonished by the...

Sunday - The Significance of The Judgment Hour The gospel and the judgment, both parts of the first angel’s message, are inseparably intertwined. Were it not for the “everlasting gospel,” we would have no hope in the judgment. In fact, as we will see, the “everlasting gospel” is, indeed, our only hope in the judgment. There is no question that part of the content of the gospel is the announcement...

Saturday The end of the world, and events leading up to it, are, as we know, no joke. The world faces the most serious crisis since the Flood. In fact, Peter himself uses the story of the Flood as a symbol of the end, warning that just as the world of old perished by water, in the end times, “the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the eart...

Saturday: Throughout the centuries, the chanting of the Shema (the name of the prayer, based on the Hebrew word for “hear”) reminded the Jews of the spiritual vision that united them as a people and that strengthened their resolve to maintain their unique identity as worshipers of the one true God. For Seventh-day Adventists, the three angels’ messages in Revelation 14 are our Shema. They define w...

Saturday: The three angels’ messages is Jesus’ final message of mercy, a call that leads us from trusting in our own righteousness to trusting the righteousness of Jesus to justify us, to sanctify us, and, at the end of time, to glorify us. Sunday: Eternal Choices There will come a day when every human being on planet Earth will make their final, irrevocable decision, either for or against Jesus....

Saturday:  We are in a life-and-death battle with a wily foe. We are outnumbered, fighting against incredible odds. The forces of evil appear invincible. We seem to be facing certain loss. Defeat seems inevitable. From a merely human perspective, it seems that Satan’s forces will overwhelm us. But, thank God, though we are outnumbered, though the odds are (humanly speaking) stacked against us, tho...
