Rambam Bekius

My name is Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss, and this is the podcast for my Rambam Bekius Chavurah at Yeshiva Bnei Torah (YBT). We typically meet four days a week for an hour and learn the writings of the Rambam on a bekius level (i.e. with the aim of covering ground rather than doing an in-depth analysis). If you're interested in attaining fluency in the Rambam's Torah, then this is the podcast fo...

The Mitzvah of Anochi (Part 1): Yesodei ha'Torah 1:1-6 01.12.2020

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! My apologies for the interruption in the middle of shiur! My computer froze, the Zoom kept recording, and I don't yet know how to edit audio files. In today's Rambam Bekius chavurah we began Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah in the Mishneh Torah. We began by defining the parameters of what we mean by "bekius" based on assor...

Sefer ha'Mada: Introduction (Tehilim 36:11) 30.11.2020

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! Today in our Rambam Bekius chavurah (given on 11/30/20 at YBT) we began Sefer ha'Mada. No, we did not start Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah quite yet. Instead, we began with the "crowning pasuk" of Sefer ha'Mada, Tehilim 36:11, which is where the Rambam clearly wanted us to begin. We learned the pasuk based on the comment...

Welcome to the Rambam Bekius Podcast! 30.11.2020

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! Welcome! Most intros belong at the beginning, but since today is the official launch of this podcast, and since we'll be starting the Mishneh Torah proper, I thought this would be a good occasion to formally introduce this podcast. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bekius Disclaimer: Note that...

Today was the day (YBT on 11/25/20) ... the day we FINALLY finished the Rambam's introduction to the Mishneh Torah in its entirety! :D We read through the list of mitzvos in Sefer Shoftim, making observations and asking questions as we have in the past, and then we were done! It's been a wonderful, enlightening, and bushah-filled...

Chalukas ha'Seforim: Books 10-13 - Taharah, Nezikim, Kinyan, and Mishpatim 24.11.2020

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! In today's "Rambam Bekius" shiur (given at YBT on 11/24/20) we made it not two, not three, but FOUR books! Taharah, Nezikin, Kinyan, and Mishpatim! We were surprised by how easy Taharah was to read through, how few mitzvos there were, and how many chapters it made up compared to the other books. The other three books brought...

In today's "Rambam Bekius" shiur (given at YBT on 11/23/20) we made it through the Rambam's list of mitzvos in Sefer Avodah and Sefer Korbanos, attempting - as has been our wont - to understand his ordering of the sections and musing on the differences in his formulation between the koseres version and the minyan ha&apo...

I say &q...

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! In today's "Rambam Bekius" shiur (given at YBT on 11/4/20) we finished the Minyan ha'Mitzvos! Yay! :D We ended off by talking about the value of bekius in general, with a spotlight on the unique kind of bekius we just did. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bekius Disclaimer: Not...

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! In today's "Rambam Bekius" shiur (given at YBT on 11/3/20) we made it far enough to see the light at the end of the Lo Taaseh tunnel! Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! In today's "Rambam Bekius" shiur (given at YBT on 10/29/20) we trudged onward in the list of the Mitzvos Lo Taaseh in the Rambam's Intro to the Mishneh Torah. This was an especially bushah-filled day, since the vast majority of the mitzvos we read are not practiced today, and we were unfamiliar with many of the details....

Minyan ha'Mitzvos (MT): Lo Taaseh #53-73 27.10.2020

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! In today's "Rambam Bekius" shiur (given at YBT on 10/22/20) we went back to the Sefer ha'Mitzvos to read and discuss the little "blurb" at the end of the Mitzvos Aseh section in which the Rambam categorizes the mitzvos aseh based on how, when, and in what situations they apply. We ended off by doing the Sefer...
