When Saul and Jonathan die, David doesn't celebrate but laments and remembers these men. Pastor Doug Horner teaches from 1 Samuel 31 and 2 Samuel 1.

David was no perfect man, but he returned to the Lord time and again to find grace. In contrast, Saul went his own way and never repented. He wanted God's benefits but not God's rule in His life. In 1 Samuel 28 and 30, we see the contrast between a man who is faithful in his pursuit of God (David) and a man who, in the end, has found himself abandoned by God in his unrepentance. Pastor Doug preach...

Jim Rairick of Horizons International visited us to share the exciting opportunity we have to reach the nations in our own backyard. Over 1 million international students come to America each year to study at our universities. Many of these students are from parts of the world that are very hard to reach with the Gospel. What if we could engage in hands-on international missions by driving 5 minut...

This is Part 2 of International Student Ministry Training with Jim Rairick of Horizons International. Over 1 million international students come to America each year to study at our universities. Many of these students are from parts of the world that are very hard to reach with the Gospel. What if we could engage in hands-on international missions by driving 5 minutes down the street? That's exac...

Have you ever removed God from the equation and started making decisions that solely made sense to your own heart? That's exactly what David does in 1 Samuel 27 and it leads to a cascading avalanche of bad decisions and consequences in his life. Thankfully, David escapes his self-destructive summit in 1 Samuel 29 & 30 by the grace of God. Today Pastor David Horner shows us how we are susceptible t...

Saul takes 3,000 men to go kill David but God protects David once again. David spares Saul's life a second time, entrusting himself to God and moving in step with the Lord. Pastor Doug Horner preaches on this episode of David's life from 1 Samuel 26 in a sermon called "Moving With The Lord."

Human beings long for justice, but tainted by sin, that longing often becomes hate-fueled vengeance. David experienced this dynamic when he was insulted by a man named Nabal, and almost did something he would regret. But God sent Abigail to stop him and remind him of God's promises to him. In 1 Samuel 25, we are reminded that David was not a perfect King – but that we need a better King who can pe...

On the run and in a cave, David is presented with a prime opportunity to kill Saul. But instead of killing Saul, David decides to entrust himself to God and wait on his timing to ascend to the throne. Pastor Trey McClain preaches a message called "Lessons from the Cave" from 1 Samuel 24.

David is on the run and narrowly escapes Saul's clutches, even while saving the inhabitants of Keilah. Pastor Doug Horner shows us that we need to trust God's will as we look at 1 Samuel 23.

When Elijah came out of obscurity to confront Ahab, Ahab blamed the nation's troubles on him. But Elijah made it clear that it was the ungodliness of Ahab that had left the nation literally high and dry. Elder Jeff Horner teaches at our men's event on 1 Kings 18:1-19.

What can turn a group of distressed, indebted, discontented people into courageous, self-sacrificing, renown people? Only God's chosen King. This week, as we observe how King David transformed his Mighty Men, we see a picture of how Jesus transforms us. Pastor David Horner preaches a message from 1 Samuel 22:1-2 and 2 Samuel 23:8-23.

When David is forced to flee town, he has a temporary lapse in faith. He lies to the priest and then flees to the enemy Philistines. Meanwhile, Saul hunts him and in the process kills the priests. In the midst of it all, God is graciously protecting David. Pastor Doug Horner preaches from 1 Samuel 21-22 in this message called "When Life Has You On The Run."

Who am I? Where do I belong? Why am I here? At the core of our being is a search for identity. The biblical narrative presents the only worldview that makes sense of human identity. David Horner, Joel Horner, Nathan Crowe, Noah Peak, and Doug Horner all share from the theme of our annual Beach Week student ministry trip.

Today Pastor Billy Thompson takes us through 1 Samuel 20 and shows us the significance of the covenant that Jonathan and David make before David is forced to flee town for good.

In 1 Samuel 19, Saul's murderous intentions against David are no longer a secret and David is forced to flee. From this time on, he will live as an exile until he comes to the throne. Peter described the Christian life as the life of an exile. Since our citizenship is in heaven, all those in Christ live as exiles on this earth. This week Pastor David preaches a message about "Living in Exile" from...

The prophet Samuel, whom God used to establish the kingship in Israel and anoint King David, had a godly mother. Hannah, who was barren, prayed to the Lord and God gave her Samuel. The impact that a godly mother has on a life can't be measured. Pastor Doug Horner preaches on Hannah's prayer in 1 Samuel 1.

In the aftermath of David's battle with Goliath, his name was on the rise. But his greatness brought polarizing responses. Jonathan, Michal, and most all of Israel loved him, but Saul was being consumed with jealousy. The varying responses to David's rise depict the varying responses people have to God's Messiah, Jesus Christ. Pastor David preaches from 1 Samuel 18 in a message titled, "Do you lov...

David vs. Goliath. The runt of his family vs. the giant of the Philistines. David did the unthinkable and defeated Goliath because he trusted in a God who was bigger than Goliath. David's great faith is seen in his battle with Goliath and challenges us to put our faith in the God who is bigger than anything we face.

God's chosen King was "a man after his own heart". In 1 Samuel 16, God takes David from the sheep pastures and anoints him as King over Israel because he was this man. Ultimately, David's anointing as King points us to Jesus Christ, the "Messiah" or "Anointed One".

Saul was the first King of Israel and started off well. But it soon became apparent that he cared more about his own glory than God's glory. Some foolish and disobedient decisions by Saul led God to reject him as King and set the stage for a new King to arise.

He is risen! Jesus' tomb was empty on Sunday morning. His tomb was our tomb – he paid the penalty of death for our sin and defeated the grave on our behalf. All glory to Him!

Saul of Tarsus received new direction in his life when he encountered the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus. Pastor Doug preaches on the conversion of Saul in Acts 9:1-31.

If you've ever made a mess in or of your life, the resurrected Jesus has good news. He's the God who is eager to restore us, especially after our biggest failures, and make us new by His unending supply of grace. Today, Pastor David looks at Peter's story of restoration from John 21 in a message titled, "Resurrection Restoration".

The disciples on the road to Emmaus had their eyes opened when the resurrected Jesus appeared to them and explained how all of Scripture points to Him. Pastor Doug preaches on this account in a message titled, "Jesus Opens".

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after his resurrection, he gave them new peace, new purpose, new power, and a new perspective. Pastor David shares about how we can experience the newness of resurrection life in this message called, "This Changes Everything".
