Funkier Radio

I recorded this episode in the middle of a ridiculous heatwave, so I attempt to keep things cool at the start with Nuyorican Soul, Raw Soul Express and even some reggae, before I start turning the heat up with some classic funk, some disco and some scorching new promos. I’m pleased to include the excellent More Than U Know by https://soundcloud.com/boogietraxxatx, which is out right now on https:/...

Episode 35 is here, and as per usual I’ve crammed a good variety into hour one. We’ve got some shimmering deep house, a couple of brand new bits, some classic Gil Scott-Heron, disco edits fast and slow, and we finish the hour with some glorious Earth Wind and Fire. In terms of brand new bits I bring you a Melba-flavoured edit from friend of the show JD Finburg. This one’s available along with a fe...

The first hour of this week’s show packs in soul divas, a good few edits including a Kendrick Lamar one, some dank and dirty funk, an early Beyonce track and some housey goodness. Then I’ve got a lovely treat for you in the second hour - a guest mix from Limpodisco! I’ve known about these two guys from Ukraine for a while now and I love the way they bring character, personality and fun to what the...

This episode goes in fairly heavy on the edits, with modern day spins on tunes from Chic, Positive Force, Etta James and more. But I still find time for an obscure Swedish soul cover, some raw funk, a portion of bubbling disco house... and of course some Parliament. I've also featured the latest release from @PuzzleProjectsMusic - a sublime track called In The Mood by FunkeeSounds (https://soundcl...

The latest Episode starts off with a few raw funk numbers, builds through boogie and disco and into something a wee bit housier. It’s the usual mix of the new and the old, and along the way I bring you some new music from B4ck To L1fe (https://soundcloud.com/ynnad-zeugnimod) with a storming new release on Puzzle Projects Music (https://soundcloud.com/puzzleprojectsmusic/) which is available to buy...

It’s Funkier Radio time again, and despite the continuing lockdown I’ve decided to make it fortnightly again, to give myself more time to spend on non-DJing musical stuff. The first hour is the usual mix of twists and turns and I bang it out for the first part with some UK garage and house, before taking the tempo down for some raw funk and bringing things back up for a house, funk and disco selec...

Episode 30 sees me sticking around the 110 BPM kinda level for the first half an hour, with wonderful sounds from Midnight Star, Graham Central Station, Average White Band, Tom Browne, Leon Bridges and Dr Packer. After slowing things down for a bit for some deeply funky grooves I then crank it up with a couple of housier cuts towards the end. As always it’s a musical meander with plenty of twists...

My (currently) weekly funk voyage continues with another mixed bag of funky delights. This week I bring you something from birthday boy Stevie Wonder and something from the dearly departed Betty Wright alongside some choice selections from Gloria Jones, Magnifique, Kleeer, Jayl Funk, Bill Withers, Patrice Rushen and more. Then I turn up the tempo in preparation for this week's guest mix... In hour...

This week sees more sweet sweet funky music, on a bit of a sunshine tip, largely because I recorded this during the day for a change, and the sun was out. Hour uno sees cuts from A Tribe Called Quest, The Allergies, Parliament, Curtis Mayfield, Addison Groove, Crazy P, Rahaan, Roy Ayers and more, and I had a lot of fun recording it for you. Hour 2 is guest mix time, and I hand proceedings over to...

Funkier Radio is going weekly for a little while! I'm off work, so why not? I bring you my usual mixed bag of funky delights in the first hour, ranging from the soulful to the bumping. Then in the second hour I'm pleased to bring you a wonderful guest mix from Ca Ty. Caty's from Mexico, currently living in Barcelona and before lockdown ran a night called Pink Ear Sessions. And as you'll find out w...

Hard to believe it, but Funkier Radio is turning one year old! Really doesn't seem like that long ago that I was nervously recording episode 1, and the formula hasn't really changed over the last year - it's still me playing some of the funkiest cuts from my personal music collection in hour 1, then handing over to a fellow DJ to take you through hour 2. All of the guest mixes on the show are very...

Episode 25 comes straight from my locked down corner of South East London, and here’s hoping it helps to bring a little ray of light to wherever you’re stuck during this very strange time in history. I begin hour one with the sadly now late and very much great Bill Withers, and then we embark on a journey across funk, cosmic disco, electro and world music, taking in Herbie Hancock, Jamiroquai, Mar...

We might all be locked down at home, but that’s not going to stop me from delivering a fresh slab of hot and funky tuneage directly into your home every 2 weeks. This time I’ve got tracks from Moodymann, Crackazat, Gap Band, Curtis Mayfield, Con Funk Shun, Breakbot, and obviously there’s some Parliament Funkadelic in there too as always. In hour 2 I’m excited to bring you something a bit different...

The latest episode of my little radio show comes as we teeter on the precipice of what promises to be a dark few months for the human race. So I’m trying to do my best to bring a little bit of brightness by selecting music that I love and that makes me happy. As always it’s a broad selection, featuring tunes from Change, Joey Negro, Erykah Badu, The O’Jays, Cashmere and a brand new edit from mysel...

‘Eclectic’ is the word I’d use to sum up the first hour of the latest episode of Funkier Radio. I’ve crammed in all sorts, from funk, disco, house, world music to hip hop and some unexpected curveball weirdness. Hour 2 is tremendously exciting, because it’s my pleasure to bring you an exclusive hour of mixing from none other than Funk Hunk! All the way from Denver CO, Rob’s been on my radar for a...

After some quite frankly brilliant guest mixes from all manner of talented DJs over the last few months, it's about time I had a go at one, so this time it's me doing my usual thing for hour 1, then me again playing more songs that I like but without the talking in hour 2. The first hour features tracks from Cerrone, Amp Fiddler, Marvin Gaye, Tavares and Recloose, and a few tasty edits from the li...

Funkier Radio is 20 episodes old! We celebrate this momentous occasion by doing what we do best - exploring the many facets of funky music for the first hour, before handing over to a guest selector so they can show us what they’re made of. Hour 1 features funk, soul and disco galore with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Stargard, Gap Band, P-Funk All Starts and Basement Freaks, with edits from Late...

My fortnightly journey through the world of funky funky music continues with tunes from Sly & The Family Stone, Bill Withers The Commodores, Prince, Funkadelic, Mr Scruff and more. It’s the usual ride through BPMs and styles. I’ve kept things on a bit more of a raw funk tip than usual and only squeezed in a couple of housier tunes towards the end. As usual I hand over hour 2 to a fellow DJ, and th...

Kicking off the new decade with more funky goodness from myself and a fellow selector. Hour 1 features lovely music from the likes of Parliament, Fatback Band, Loleatta Holloway, Thundercat and the Boss Diana Ross! Once again there's less of me talking and more of me playing the songs I love. In hour 2 I'm thrilled to bring you a Guest Mix from the excellent Polar Bears Can Dance. I've been aware...

I’m back to bring you another couple of hours of funky good times. The first hour is me and my usual trip through the genres and tempos. In this episode we’ve got a few classics, a few edits, a bit of weirdness and some Sister Sledge. On the whole though, keeping things on a relatively chilled note this time around... I’m very excited about hour 2, as I bring you an extra special Guest Mix from on...

Funkier Radio is back with another two hours of funky sounds for your eardrums. Nice and varied first hour this time, with a bit less of me piping up and talking over the tunes, which I guess is a good thing! In the second hour we welcome Snowball from Newry in Ireland with a lovely Guest Mix. Expect funky sounds aplenty with this great hour and a bit of edits and bangers. If you like it, and you...

Funkier Radio Time again, with a smorgasbord of funky gems from across the decades. This episode features tunes from Parliament, Eli Escobar, Snakehips, Tom Browne, Gap Band and more. Gets a bit housey towards the end as is often the way! In hour 2 we have Soul K from Riga on guest mix duties, for an expertly selected hour of classy deep house vinyl cuts. Huge thanks to Konstantin, and please show...

The latest episode of Funkier Radio is chock full of funky goodness, with tracks from Cameo, Aretha Franklin alongside some sweet obscurities. It’s edit central too, with a Mikeandtess edit of Jamiroquai, a Sam Redmore edit of Sister Sledge and my own edit of Randolph Baker. Hour 2 is all about Groovemasta from Sofia, who very kindly has recorded an exclusive Guest Mix for the show! It’s a groovy...

Funkier Radio is back in town with another 2 hours of delicious delights to tease your eardrums. it's a varied affair as per usual, with hour one featuring music from Nina Simone, Amp Fiddler, T-Connection, Mayer Hawthorne, Bill Withers, Motor City Drum Ensemble and more. There's also a bit of an electro tangent, because why not. Hour 2 features a guest mix from RJ. It's the first half of one of t...

Funky times abide once again in the church of Funkier Radio! Today we’ve got some sweet sweet disco, some dank down and dirty funk and some housey goodness too. Tunes from Parliament, Patti Labelle, Philou Louzolo and some artists that don’t begin with P. I’m excited to hand over hour 2 to Dave Hudson for an exclusive mix of funky disco flavoured sounds. Dave’s been on my radar for a few years as...
