Funkier Radio

Oooh, this episode was a fun one. For the first hour I started slow and picked up the pace in chunks, getting rather damn funky for a while. The second half hour was almost all new promos, with some rather delicious selections… but never going above 120BPM. In hour 2 I was thrilled to welcome Nova Funk back to the Funkier Radio controls. Nova Funk guested on my show a few years back under a differ...

In the second hour of this fortnight’s show it was my pleasure to welcome Jade Edwards, a talented young DJ from Liverpool. I met Jade recently when DJing up in Manchester for the Good Custard lads. Jade was on just before me and really impressed me with her tune selection, mixing skills and energy behind the decks. I just had to invite her on for a mix, and we’re treated to a fantastic hour of hi...

I was pleased to be able to drop a few of my newly finished, as yet unsigned creations in this show, been a bit of a quiet patch on the production front for a while so it’s nice to get some stuff finished at last. Widely changing BPMs once again in my hour, plus a little technical hitch near the end that I partially edited out. My guest for the second hour was DJ E9. E9 is a versatile producer and...

Between me and my guest we covered a pleasing 42 tracks in two hours on this episode, with 20 quick fire bangers from me in the first 60 minutes - leaning heavily on some stuff I’ve downloaded very recently but spanning the ages as usual. My guest this time comes from Rotterdam. Lenzz is a Dutch DJ who has his own long-running show Lenzzie’s Nu-Grooves. He’s been a frequent supporter of my tracks...

The usual mix of oldies and newsies in the first hour, working up to some new bits that have found their way into my collection. No chat this week due to technical issues, so none of my voice ruining the excellent tracks for once. It was my pleasure to hand things over to Lyle Sutherland for the second hour. Lyle is, like myself, on the line up for Westival later this summer, and it’s going to be...

Twenty fine tunes from across the decades, genres and BPMs crammed into hour 1 this time, then I hand things over to Brighton-based DJ and producer Dean Playford AKA Eldeanyo for a high energy hour 2. Big tunes, pumping basslines and some nice housed up versions of lovely tunes. Show Dean some love won’tcha - https://www.instagram.com/dj.eldeanyo https://soundcloud.com/dean-playford-215229103 HOUR...

The first hour featured two new tracks from me, plus dope sounds from Fingerman, Pete Ellison, Scruscru, Bootsy Collins and a load more. Hour two was all about Schoon Jr., a London-based DJ who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a couple of times recently. Frenchman Julien is the UK ambassador of theBasement Discos - one of the finest labels around, and you can catch him spinning tunes all around th...

I covered lots of ground in hour one, with some slow smooth balearic grooves, classic soulful cuts, boogie funk, some weirdness, some global beats and two brand new bubblers from myself. Hour 2 was a real treat, with a wonderful guest mix from Jamie Oyebode, co-founder of The Soulstice Collective, who spins under the alias Jamie Joy. The Soulstice Collective is an amazing movement that uses music...

A funky assortment from me in hour 1 with the usual selection of new and old, fast and slow, groovy and groovier… a couple of new bits from myself in the first hour too, and as an added bonus I had some tech issues so there’s not much of me talking! Hour 2 is all about Niall Martin, creator of top London night Disco Jukebox, who I’m thrilled to have on the show. This up and coming London DJ Niall...

Lots of lovely tracks stuffed into the first hour, with some funky oldies in the first half and an increasingly fast paced second half, culminating in a couple of new bits from myself right up at about 130 BPM. In the second hour it was my immense pleasure to welcome along the lovely Pedro from Lisbon with an excellently funky hour of tunes. Pedro came to the rescue when my planned guest let me do...

I crammed twenty tracks into the first hour of this episode, swinging wildly around the BPMs as usual with some promos, some oldies and a bit of hip hop. In hour 2 I was pleased to welcome Burnout Sumner from Berlin for a beautifully eclectic guest mix… For the past ten years Norman (DJ alias Burnout Sumner, a nod to one of his all-time heroes) has been a vital part of Berlin’s music scene, mainly...

For my hour I started slow and wound things up to some ferocious disco towards the end, finishing on a work in progress demo from myself. In hour two Late Night disco delivered a super smooth hour of funky grooves, a real treat for your ears! Late Night Disco is a DJ duo based in Hackney, London. For the past 8 years, they have been filling dance floors up and down the country, bringing their love...

My fortnightly foray into the depths of my music collection with a choice selection of sounds from across the genres, decades and BPMs. And it was my pleasure to welcome on Dez La Rock with a sumptuous love-themed guest mix, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Big thanks to Des! https://soundcloud.com/dezlarock HOUR 1 TRACKLIST 1 Raw DMX, Greg Wilson - Do It To The Funk (Greg Wilson Re-Edit) 2 JKriv...

My show has turned 100 episodes old! That's 100 hours of me gibbering away over my favourite tracks, and 100 guest mixes covering the whole funky spectrum. Episode 100 continued this trend - lots of my current and former faves in the first hour, then an absolutely sublime mix from one of the best DJs out there, Delfonic from Berlin. Markus' mix is a very classy affair, laden with lots of his own e...

Episode 99 went out live on NDC radio on 16th Jan 2023. Usual business from me in the first hour, including something brand spanking new from myself and Ben-Banjo Field. I welcomed on Space Jams for this fortnight's guest mix, and he's delivered a lovely mix of eclectic funky vibes. Make sure you check out the excellent Space Jams Radio - https://soundcloud.com/spacejamsofficial HOUR 1 - EVEN FUNK...

A couple of days into 2023 and I’m back with more Funkier Radio sounds for your ears! Just because I can, I start the tempo quick on this one before dropping things down to a more comfortable pace. There’s the usual mix of new and old, with a couple of brand new bits from me - one edit and one remix… both of which I’m pretty pleased with. For hour 2 I welcome the very talented Lev for a guest mix....

On this episode I showcased some of the goodness that's recently come out on the fabulous Discoholics Anonymous 3 compilations. I mixed in a few other edits and oldies in between too, and kept things reasonably chilled for the most part. Picked the pace up a bit before the end of my hour with a new tune from myself. For the second hour I handed things over to my mate Kaz, AKA Miss Chief. Her set w...

This episode saw me mixing up my usual blend of genres, tempos and eras, with disco, funk, house and sleazy boogie all making an appearance. Lighter on the promos this fortnight as I’ve not had a chance to download the latest goodies, but one forthcoming tune from me in the mix. In the second hour I was incredibly excited to welcome a member of one of my favourite bands of all time, Derrick McKenz...

I was having so much fun playing some tunes in this episode that I only realised right near the end of the first hour that I’d totally forgotten to press record! So the hour you hear here is a faithful recreation of the hour that went out live on NDC. Whoops! The most annoying thing is that it’s not the first time I’ve done that. It was a fun first hour though, starting with some slow jams, pickin...

This was one of those shows that I really enjoyed! Something clicked and I was loving the tunes throughout the first hour. Never afraid of a BPM jump on this show, I took things from a woozy 93bpm to a blistering 128 in the blink of an eye, so we had the full range from smoky chillout to stomping disco and lots in between. Almost enjoyed myself too much for a Monday night! In hour 2 we had a retur...

Having just got back from an absolutely mad weekend at ADE I mostly let the tunes do the talking on this show. I hadn’t got around to looking at my promos either so this one was focussed on the older stuff, anything ranging from a few months to a few decades of age. Took it whichever way I felt it, which was chunky slow mo vibes for a bit, deep vibes for a while, some spacey disco vibes to finish....

For reasons outside of my control you lucky lucky people are treated to a double helping of yours truly for this episode - me mixing up my usual random medley for hour 1, then as the guest mix I was lining up fell through last minute I very kindly saved the day and stepped in at a moment’s notice for that too. Hour 1 was more or less the usual - some USB problems tried to put a stop to things but...

This episode was a very special one indeed, with someone who is for me a truly unbelievable guest. To warm things up I took my usual trip through promos and classics, mixing up the BPMs and styles a good bit and having lots of fun with some wonderful tunes. Anyway, this fortnight it was really all about the second hour - I was truly honoured and humbled to welcome on somebody who’s a bit of a hero...

Episode 89 saw me cram in a good variety of oldies alongside a load of new bits too. I took the route of starting slow and building up instead of jumping around the BPMs, kicking things off with my new one on the excellent Hot Gorilla compilation that’s storming the Junodownload charts right now. Building through a succession of new and old tunes covering funk, disco and a few flavours of house, I...

The universe did its best to scupper this episode, with a no show from my scheduled guest and a corrupted USB stick nearly spelling the end. But somehow it prevailed, with a rushed reformatting and partial reloading of the USB and an heroic last minute effort from my replacement special guest. More on that in a minute. My half of the show was heavy on the promos, with new sounds from Folkness, Dr...
