Creativity Wasted
Creativity Wasted is a podcast where a group of creative people get together, and we each share an idea that we're not planning on pursuing in real life, such as an invention idea that's outside our area of expertise, a futuristic sci-fi movie idea, or an evil prank idea. And rather than just letting the idea quietly slip away, we get some fun out of it by joking about it together.

Shazam for Birds (Camila Ballario) 17.02.2020 2:27
Idea: A Shazam-like app to identify bird species by listening to them. It could give you info about the birds, including the species name, interesting trivia, how rare they are, whether it is legal to shoot them, and recipes for eating them Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 87 Chris Young (twitter.com/chrisyoungcomic Comedy Special Video: drybarcomedy.com/specials/chris-young-buoyant-mon)...
House Wraps (Chris Young) 17.02.2020 5:44
Idea: "House wraps", which are kind of like car wraps, which would be much cheaper than expensive new siding, and could even look like siding, in which case you could also wear yoga pants that look like jeans and live a total lie Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 87 Chris Young (twitter.com/chrisyoungcomic Comedy Special Video: drybarcomedy.com/specials/chris-young-buoyant-mon) Camila Ball...
Apocalypse Tiny Houses (Tom Walma) 17.02.2020 13:33
Tom's obsession with "black balls" (author Nick Bostrom's metaphor for future technologies that could end humanity)gives him the idea for tiny houses which are built to withstand apocalyptic disasters, such as virus outbreaks or nuclear/meteor firestorms. Since they're mobile, you can drive them into apocalypse testing facilities, such as a "car wash that uses fire instead of water", to make sure...
JurWrestle Park (Justin Siekierka) 17.02.2020 15:15
Idea: A Jurassic Park parody, where instead of the eccentric billionaire cloning dinosaurs (who run amok in a park and kill people), he clones dead professional wrestlers from the 1980s (who also run amok in a park and start killing people). Yokozuna stomps on the ground and causes the water in the cup to shake, The Ultimate Warrior shakes the fence and breaks loose, Macho Man is the dilophosaurus...
Chicken Wing Sauce Containers (Kurt Brown) 17.02.2020 7:11
Idea: Canoe-shaped sauce/condiment containers which are wide enough for dipping chicken wings. Also, Tom is mocked for not knowing the color of ranch dressing Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 86 Kurt Brown (twitter.com/KurtBrownTown) Justin Siekierka (facebook.com/justin.siekierka) Tom Walma (twitter.com/thomaswalma) Recorded at Podcast Detroit (https://podcastdetroit.com)
Cat Repellent Spray (Kurt Brown) 17.02.2020 7:13
Idea: A repellent spray to keep neighborhood cats out of your yard, so that they don't defecate in your flower pots. Environmentally-friendly alternative solutions are also discussed, such as dogs, and helping the "cat ladies" get dates so they don't try to fill the gaping holes in their souls with cats Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 86 Kurt Brown (twitter.com/KurtBrownTown) Justin Siek...
Bed Invention Ideas (Tom Walma) 17.02.2020 17:47
A bunch of ideas to make beds better, such as * Side-walls to lean against to support your midsection so you don't have to stuff a pillow in front of your stomach to hold in your gut fat * Split-bed tents which mimic the gradual light and temperature reduction of night-time and hold in the sounds of snoring and smells of night-time flatulence so you don't annoy your spouse * A mini under-bed panic...
Funeral Attendance Stand-Ins (Nick Leydorf) 17.02.2020 14:24
Idea: An app to hire a stand-in if you don't want to go to a funeral, but you feel socially obligated to attend. They could sign your name in the funeral guest book, pretend to be you (except when talking to the handful of other people at the funeral who know you), listen to and/or record other people's conversations to give you info to use in future social situations, etc. Originally from Creativ...
Privatized Roads (Mark Sweetman) 17.02.2020 5:18
Idea/prediction: If a company like Tesla or Uber owns all of the cars instead of people owning cars, they will have a financial incentive to own the roads and keep the roads in good shape, because they would have to pay for damage to their massive fleet of cars due to potholes, etc. Also, they could remove "redundant roads" to save costs, because if it takes longer to deliver stuff to a place beca...
Merged Local Governments (Mark Sweetman) 17.02.2020 10:33
Idea: There are too many tiny communities (Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Point Shores, Gross Pointe Woods, City of Gross Pointe) which each have to pay for their own local government services, like libraries, fire departments, etc. which could easily be shared between neighboring communities. Perhaps there could be a softball game between two neighboring local governments, where the loser's governme...
DoTube (Tom Walma) 17.02.2020 19:42
Idea: A way to "fix the internet" by putting blogs, animations, and all of the miscellaneous stuff of the Internet inside a YouTube-like window, because nobody wants to go to wwww.someguyswebsite.com, and because YouTube's recommendations, subscriptions, top videos of the day list, view counts, etc. allow discovery of new content and for content to "go viral", and because a YouTube-like ad system...
ShameMe App (Leighton Ward) 17.02.2020 10:34
Idea: An app to fat-shame you, or shame you in some other way, to motivate you to lose weight or improve yourself. It could also provide motivational/instructional advice, such as "Today's diet plan: don't eat". It could be location-aware and insult you if you walk into a fast food restaurant. You could anonymously hire childhood bullies, family members, or celebrities to send audio of customized...
Biggest Loser Online Dating (David Steves) 17.02.2020 7:17
Idea: An online dating site for people trying to lose weight, because "The Biggest Loser" is the most successful TV reality show for creating real-life married couples, and because "the couples who lose weight together stay together". The site could match local people like Tinder, and get them to work out together in the same gym, because the military shows that shared perseverance through a hards...
Modular Airplanes and Airplane Boarding Speedup Ideas (Tom Walma) 17.02.2020 9:36
Ideas to speed up airplane boarding, including: * Robots to lift bags straight up/down into the overhead bins of an airplane, so people don't stand in the aisle and block the line of other people who are boarding while they try to shove their bags into the overhead bins * A modular airplane, where the top half (cockpit and cabin) can be removed, and i) replace the waiting area of the airport to el...
Black Niche Dating Sites (Mike Geeter) 17.02.2020 8:50
Idea: Niche dating sites for African-Americans, such as black farmers only, black lumberjacks aka "lumberblacks", and black bears. But not "black furries", because that's "white people sh**". Also, odd niche dating sites which already exist, such as a dating site for sea captains Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 83 Naz Neen Mike Geeter ( twitter.com/OhMikeGeeter , Kevin Hart's "Hart in th...
British X-Rated Game Shows in US (Naz Neen) 17.02.2020 24:59
Idea: American versions of adult-themed British game shows, including i) "Spring Break with Grandad", where college kids and their granddads compete as a team in party and beach-themed events, ii) "Naked Attraction", where people compete for dates by showing off their naked body in three rounds: genitals, midsection, and face, and iii) "Sex Box", where strangers are instructed to perform a specifi...
Moral Selection (Tom Walma) 17.02.2020 16:35
Idea: Environmental activism/engineering, where instead of trying to return nature to an arbitrary past before humans arrived, we use genetic engineering, technology, etc. to engineer the environment and the DNA of animals to make them experience more pleasure and less fear and suffering ("moral selection" as opposed to "natural selection" aka Darwinism). It's a way for humans to become "the best...
Weezer Cover Song App (Greg Sharp) 17.02.2020 9:48
Idea: An app which generates a computer-generated cover of any song which sounds like it was performed by the band Weezer. Because flooding the world with Weezer covers would make the whole world happy and possibly even lead to world peace, like a real-life version of the future from the movie "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 82 Brent Von Kalamazoo (...
Global Warming Apocalypse Party (Brent Von Kalamazoo) 17.02.2020 12:30
Idea: Set a deadline to fix global warming emissions, and if we fail to meet the deadline, "calling it quits for civilization", and conducting a worldwide party for a couple years, or until the food runs out. That way, everybody gets a couple years of the highest quality living, instead of slow miserable decline towards a Mad Max hell Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 82 Brent Von Kalamazo...
Late-Night History (Tom Walma) 17.02.2020 8:44
Idea: A TV show where people learn about history by watching jokes, primarily obtained from late-night talk show monologues from the relevant time period. Each half-hour episode would be a series of jokes, all about the same historical event, such as the Iran-Contra scandal. Blurbs and graphics would display pieces of information required to understand the event and "get" the jokes, even if you kn...
Glasses That Make Cats Look Like Dogs (Diego Attanasio) 17.02.2020 8:11
Idea: "Augmented reality" glasses that make dogs look like cats, or vice versa. Also maybe headphones, so the person who sees the cat as a dog can say a dog's name, and other people (and the cat) hear them say the cat's name. This technology would also allow everyone to live a lie, causing other people to see and hear them in a way that isn't real Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 81 Gerri...
Last Addict Standing Competition TV Show (David Sutherland) 17.02.2020 9:12
Idea: A competition-based reality show, like Survivor, where each team member is addicted to a different recreational drug. The teams compete in both physical and mental events, and the drug addition may help or hinder their performance in the event, possibly in hilarious ways. The members of the winning team are rewarded either with a large supply of their drug, or rehab (their choice) Originally...
Self-Doubt Removal Pill (Gerrit Elzinga) 17.02.2020 11:21
Idea: A pill to remove self-doubt and shame, but without causing you to lose self-awareness and/or becoming arrogant (like alcohol). Because good people feel self-doubt and shame when they shouldn't, and bad people already don't feel shame Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 81 Gerrit Elzinga (twitter.com/GerritElzinga Podcast: facebook.com/thisbetterbegoodpodcast) David Sutherland (twitter....
Life Guide App (Bryan Deuchler) 17.02.2020 2:31
Idea: An app that monitors what you're doing all day and uses artificial intelligence to give you advice, kind of like "an angel on your shoulder that also keeps you from being stupid". It can also go back into it's recorded history of your life, and show you a sequence of decisions that led to a bad outcome, to help you learn from your mistakes Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 80 Nick Ea...
Can I Get A Witness App (Amanda Brewington) 17.02.2020 3:57
Idea: A social media app/feature which requires other people to be "witnesses" of a post (i.e. confirm that they were there and saw what happened), so it's harder to lie about yourself on social media. Also, other people can post (possibly bad) things about you, along with corroborating witnesses, which will hopefully pressure people to not be jerks Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 80 Nic...
