Creativity Wasted

Creativity Wasted is a podcast where a group of creative people get together, and we each share an idea that we're not planning on pursuing in real life, such as an invention idea that's outside our area of expertise, a futuristic sci-fi movie idea, or an evil prank idea. And rather than just letting the idea quietly slip away, we get some fun out of it by joking about it together.

Life-Recording Intern (Amanda Brewington) 05.01.2021

Idea: To have an intern follow you around and record or write down things that happen to you and your thoughts about them (as they happen or shortly thereafter), so you have material available to write a great memoir. Also: the intern could secretly manipulate your life to make it more interesting for the memoir Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 56 Jacqui Marpa (twitter.com/JacquiMarpa) Am...

Free Business Districts (Tom Walma) 05.01.2021

Idea: Since we have apps which can distribute information to and amongst customers, we don't really need food safety regulations and other government regulations which suffocate small businesses. We could even have "free-for-all" business districts in extremely poor neighborhoods, where residents of that neighborhood are allowed to run businesses out of their homes without obtaining business licen...

Small Talk Bouncer (Jacqui Marpa) 05.01.2021

Idea: To use Amanda's chore bartering app to hire someone do "small talk" for you, like a "small talk bouncer" or a "Jacqui replacement" who is wearing a Jacqui mask (Tom's idea). Or maybe, instead of doing small talk for you, they'd help guide you through the small talk, like a "small talk coach". Also: a velvet rope for your body Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 56 Jacqui Marpa (twitter...

U Do It Chore Bartering App (Amanda Brewington) 05.01.2021

Idea: An app for bartering/swapping house chores with strangers in your neighborhood, with a Tinder-style approval process for bartering partners, so you don't end up with a creep who might do weird things with your dirty laundry. Also: How the NextDoor app devolves into gossip and negativity Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 56 Jacqui Marpa (twitter.com/JacquiMarpa) Amanda Brewington (fac...

Celebrity Chef Cook-Off (Jacqui Marpa) 05.01.2021

Idea: A celebrity cooking competition between Anthony Bourdain, Gordon Ramsay, and Bobby Flay. Jacqui wants Bourdain or Ramsay to humiliate Bobby Flay, and maybe also beat him up physically, because she doesn't like Bobby Flay's smug condescending smile and pedestrian dishes Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 56 Jacqui Marpa (twitter.com/JacquiMarpa) Amanda Brewington (facebook.com/amanda.b...

Social Media Slideshow (Tom Walma) 05.01.2021

Idea: A social media network where you don't have to scroll, you just view your wall like a YouTube slideshow. When you post, if the post is longer than 30 seconds, you'd have to make a preview for the post. The slideshow of your wall would show just the previews, and if you decide you want to watch the longer clip, you'd be able to immediately watch the longer clip or queue the longer clip. When...

"A Storybook Life" TV Show (Tom Walma) 05.01.2021

Idea: A TV show about a TV writer who secretly manipulates events in his daughter's life in a criminal and psychopathic way, to give her a happy and emotionally-heightened life, like the sitcoms or family dramas that he writes. The criminal and/or immoral acts (slashing tires, faking social media posts, murder, etc.) he does to other people to manipulate them to give his daughter a better life are...

Work Excuses App (Jeff Ford) 05.01.2021

Idea: An app to give you ideas for excuses for missing work or being late for work. It could help you physically harm yourself or provide other fake evidence to make your chosen excuse more believable. It could keep track of the excuses you've already given, and also track the overall success rate of each excuse. It could tally the total loss to the economy from people getting away with missing wo...

Here Comes the Boss App (Jeff Ford) 05.01.2021

Idea: An app that somehow determines where your boss or supervisor is, and vibrates or otherwise alerts you if he/she is approaching, so you can pretend to be busy working Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 55 Justin McLeod (twitter.com/jibtron_zero) Jeff Ford (twitter.com/Comicjeff10) Tom Walma (twitter.com/thomaswalma) Recorded at Podcast Detroit (https://PodcastDetroit.com)

Tailgate Grill (Justin McLeod) 05.01.2021

Idea: A grill built into the tailgate of a truck, for the purposes of tailgating (partying before a college sporting event). After leaving the game, if a driver is tailgating you (driving too close behind you), you could release the meat grease and ash onto the hood of their car. Also: Maybe the combination of rain and the wind from the moving truck could clean the grill Originally from Creativity...

Temporarily Waterproof Toilet Paper (Justin McLeod) 05.01.2021

Idea: Toilet paper which is temporarily waterproof on one side, so you don't have to wad up or fold the toilet paper to keep from getting gross butt water on your hands while wiping, and it eventually dissolves after you flush it down the toilet Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 55 Justin McLeod (twitter.com/jibtron_zero) Jeff Ford (twitter.com/Comicjeff10) Tom Walma (twitter.com/thomaswal...

Hi-Tech Japanese Toilets for America (Seiko Yomogita) 04.01.2021

Idea: To sell hi-tech Japanese toilets in America. Also: to help Americanize them, they should come with audio of a physical trainer telling you to "push it", and should be sturdier, so the toilet seats don't crack when fat Americans sit on them Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 54 Gwen Hope (twitter.com/gwenhopecomedy) Ron Rigby (twitter.com/RonRigby) Joe Williams (twitter.com/JoeDoubleYo...

Social Media Post Jail (Joe Williams) 04.01.2021

Idea: An app to analyze your social media posts after you press the post button, and if the app determines that a post might be passive-aggressive, angry, or harmful to your reputation, it puts the post in "post jail" for a day to force you re-think the post, and then you must confirm that you really want to post it before anyone can see it. Also: friends could review your posts before allowing yo...

Pizza Insurance Hijinks (Ron Rigby) 04.01.2021

Ideas for gaming the Domino's Pizza "pizza insurance" to get free pizza. Also: carrying a pizza recklessly because you know that it's insured; destroying a pizza by putting soy sauce on it; do they offer insurance against them laughing at you when you come back covered in pizza and blood? Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 54 Gwen Hope (twitter.com/gwenhopecomedy) Ron Rigby (twitter.com/Ron...

Radiator Furniture (Gwen Hope) 04.01.2021

Idea: Furniture designed to be placed in front of a radiator so you can feel the warmth from the radiator. Also: the risk of steampunk dominating the radiator furniture movement; the danger of burning yourself when sitting in front of a radiator makes it sexy, and if you're using hairspray, the danger of your hair erupting into flames makes it even sexier; a furry cat who sells rats Originally fro...

Russian Roulette Diet (Tom Walma) 04.01.2021

Idea: A diet where you'd still eat like a pig, but you'd go on a cycle of cocaine, bulimia, Fen-Phen, and other unhealthy (but effective) ways to lose weight, and an expert would manage your diet cycle to ensure that you don't do any one unhealthy thing for a long enough continuous period of time to get addicted or to cause permanent health problems Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 53 Dav...

Invisibility And Avatar Cloak (Tom Walma) 04.01.2021

Idea: If cameras continuously record what one side of your body sees, and then flexible, clothing-like screens on the other side of your body display the recorded video in real-time (or if you were inside a cylinder of solid, curved monitors), you'd look invisible. But you don't have to just display what was captured by the cameras. You could display the image of another (smaller) person walking a...

Self-Driving Delivery Cars Without Human Safety Features (Mark Sweetman) 04.01.2021

Idea: After you go shopping, you'll leave in a self-driving one-person car which has human safety features, and your purchased items would go into a self-driving delivery car which is cheap because it doesn't need airbags or safety features required for transporting people. The self-driving delivery car might combine multiple deliveries in one trip like Uber carpooling, and might not arrive at you...

Mosh Fit (David Otis Van) 04.01.2021

Idea: A gym where people exercise by slamming each other around in a mosh pit. It's like Crossfit, only instead of throwing around a truck tire, you're throwing around an a**hole in a Guns 'N Roses T-shirt (which is about the same workout) Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 53 David Otis Van ( twitter.com/davidotisvan ) Dan Turco ( twitter.com/Dansplaining ) Chris Lazar Tom Walma ( twitter....

Racetrack Tow-Rope Snow Skiing (Tom Walma) 04.01.2021

Idea: Snow skiing on an oval racetrack where a metal bar goes across the track about 8 feet above the ground, and several tow-ropes hang down from it and push skiers around the track. The track can contain little bouncy hills and ramps and such. This allows skiing to be done in small parks in cities Originally from Creativity Wasted episode 52 Nolan Reilly (instagram.com/kzquarantineking) Tom Walm...

The American Revolution - Angels vs. Demons (Nolan Reilly) 04.01.2021

Idea: A movie where angels and devils participate in the American Revolutionary War, just for sport. The devils are on the side of the Americans, and win because the devils are good at deception and other war-like activities. Or maybe there were no angels and devils, but the Native-Americans used ergot poisoning to get the white people to hallucinate and start killing each other so that they'd go...

Futuristic Tiny Houses vs. Universal Basic Income (Tom Walma) 04.01.2021

Idea: Tom thinks his futuristic (and cheap) tiny house idea is a better idea than having a "universal basic income", and his futuristic tiny houses would also eliminate house chores, allow you to move instantly without packing your stuff, give you time to pursue your dreams, and even solve infrastructure problems like the Flint Water Crisis. He sees them as giving you true freedom (as opposed to t...

Trench Advice (Tom Walma) 04.01.2021

Idea: A coworker saying goodbye on his last day before quitting a job is a perfect opportunity to share a couple minutes of blunt or awkward advice (which I call "trench advice"), because 1) they know you really well, 2) you'll probably never see them again so you don't have awkward social interactions with them in the future, and 3) they have no incentive to say mean things to you to mess with yo...

Boozr (Markus Olind) 04.01.2021

Idea: An app for buying and delivering booze and other items from a local liquor store to your house (or the nearest corner if you're homeless). Or it could be like an ice cream truck for adults, in which case grown men holding dollar bills would be drunkenly chasing the booze truck through the neighborhood in a zig-zag line. Also: A liquor-shaped vehicle similar to the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile Or...

Clothing Photo Fit App (Ricarlo Williams-Winston) 04.01.2021

Idea: A shopping app that uses photo(s) of you (in your underwear) to calculate and show you what the clothes would look like on your body. Also: hackers stealing semi-nude photos from the app; helping the app determine your body dimensions by standing next to a celebrity mannequin (for example, Seth Rogan) in your photos; having to explain to other people why you have a mannequin of Seth Rogan in...
