On this week’s Night Vale recap we spend a lot of time wondering why April Fools has to be so freaking MEAN. Scaring people, embarrassing people, setting up entire fake Arborist Day Parades with floats and hundreds of attendees…okay that last one is just Cecil BUT STILL. After that we recap another episode of Beastars,... The post Binary System Podcast #501 – WTNV #285 “April Fools”, B...

We never actually pictured getting here, but Binary System Podcast has recorded five hundred episodes! (More or less. Minus some text-only episodes. And of course we had quite a few Welcome To Night Vale recap episodes before we started calling ourselves Binary System…look, it’s too complicated to get into, and we’d really rather celebrate and... On this week’s Pluribus recap, episode three starts with Carol stuck in the memory of one more time when she didn’t try harder to make Helen happy. (For the record, Carol, we get it, we don’t like being cold either, but OH MY GOD that ice hotel looks SO COOL.) (Pun not intended.) From there,... Cecil and Night Vale Radio both get a break this week (aside from a couple of Station ID’s and a long list of “supporters”). Instead, we hear the soothing tones of Harrison Kip as he gives the listeners a little taste of his weird religion with a not-really-well-defined god, and some oddly specific commandments. (Look,... Friend of the Podcast Hannah has been after us for a bit to give Pluribus a shot and after watching the first two episodes WE DEFINITELY GET THE APPEAL. This show is not at all what we expected, and keeps surprising us at every turn. And Rhea Seehorn is one of very few people who... A sandstorm in Night Vale means low visibility, accidental mudslides, and murderous doppelgängers roaming the streets. But it also means Cecil and Carlos can work from home today and spend time teaching their adorable spell-casting son how to not tamper with the laws of nature. (No, Esteban, stop it, the avocado tree is already too... The post Binary System Podcast #496 – WTNV #283 “Work From Home...

Wonder of all wonders, we actually watched what we said we were going to watch, and before the Oscars too! KPop Demon Hunters is gorgeous, funny, and powerful, and almost definitely aimed at an audience much much younger than us. We still got a kick out of it. (Derpy Cat and the Magpie are the... The investigation into the murder of Marcus Vanston is on the back burner this week, because Cecil is laser-focused on a very important issue. It doesn’t get a lot of discussion usually, which is a shame because there are people suffering. The issue is “Not Liking The Popular TV Show That Everyone Else Is Watching... It only took us a year this time (year and a half, tops) but we finally watched Transformers One. And you know what? We have no excuses for why it took us this long, especially since it’s so freaking good. Spoiler warnings ahead, though we’re not spoiling the plot so much as fangirling over everything... This week in Night Vale, Dana Cardinal’s investigation into the murder of Marcus Vanston is finally making progress: a witness has come forward! Actually four witnesses. And not one of them has any useful information. We don’t know yet if people are being made to forget what they’ve seen, or are being prevented from saying... It’s a good thing Kathryn watched the Star Trek Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover this week, mostly because now we can talk about how awesome it is that the actors who voiced the animated characters got to play the live-action versions in an episode that was equal parts heartwarming and freaking hilarious. But it’s also... The post Binary System Podcast #491 – Strange New Worlds...

“Hee. Moriarty throwing a paper airplane at a very angsty Hawkeye. I’ll be in my bunk.” Yay, we actually watched something we planned to watch! What…no, not Weapons. And not Nosferatu either. This week we finally sat down and watched the latest Knives Out movie, and we loved it. This movie has everything: amazing actors... The post Binary System Podcast #490 – Wake Up Dead...

The last two episodes of the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks had everything: fantastic stunt casting, a squad of Harry Kims, mountains of technobabble, a version of Mariner who knows very little about jailbreaks, and Jack Quaid doing his best freaked-out screams. We LOVED it. Listen in as we spoil everything, miss most... The post Binary System Podcast #489 – Star Trek: Lower Decks, the fin...

It’s finally here! Four years of gang wars and prison riots, backroom deals and family ties, unbreakable loyalty and horrific betrayal, and it all brings us to the final episode of Mayor of Kingstown, where… …hang on, what’s that? So this isn’t the final season? Well, we can’t say we’re all that surprised, because while... The post Binary System Podcast #4...

Happy New Year everybody! Hope your holiday is fun and your 2026 better than you hoped! Okay you guys, this is a really weird episode to drop on a holiday: the latest chapter of Mayor of Kingstown (possibly the second-to-last episode ever?) bombarded us for 47 solid minutes with death, torture, plot twists, betrayal, and excrement MERRY CHRISTMAS. Seriously, this was hands down our favorite episode of the season, but maybe... The post Binary System Podcast #486 – Mayor of Kingstown s...

This week’s episode of Mayor of Kingstown was slightly less stressful than last week’s, but everyone is still in a hell of a lot of peril. There are some incredibly dangerous characters in this show, and it’s a toss up who’s going to be attacked by their worst enemy first. (It’s gonna be Kevin, isn’t... On this week’s Night Vale recap, Cecil and Dana are still trying to figure out who in town has murdered two people (that we know of.) (And we’re not talking about Tabitha because she’s the town founder so have some respect. Also she’s just eating people. Totally different M.O.) After that we’ve got a MASSIVELY... The theme of this week’s episode of Mayor of Kingstown is paranoia. Is Frank Moses playing a long game and setting Bunny up for failure? Is the Warden playing an even longer game and hoping her secret connections will protect her? Is Mike’s new friend/lover/it’s complicated Cindy getting close to Mike for her own nefarious... On this week’s Night Vale recap THERE’S BEEN A MURDER. It’s the same murder we heard about last week, but as Cecil points out it’s still true, and it’s a heck of a hook for a radio program. Here’s hoping the WikiHow article can show Cecil how to solve it before someone else gets murdered... The post Binary System Podcast #482 – WTNV #278 “How to Solve a Murder”,...

This week we’re recapping episode 3 of the last season of Mayor of Kingstown, where pretty much everything is spiraling out of Mike’s control. This week’s Night Vale is the kind of murder mystery that can only happen in this weird little town, with dead angels, no suspects, surprise bats, and an autopsy report that’s just the coroner stabbing the notebook with a pencil while yelling “IT’S FULL OF STARS.” After the recap we jump right into the second... In our continuing series “Elizabeth And Kathryn Watch Things That Are Less Than A Year Old”, this week we watched 2024’s Heretic (came out last November, just under a year, still counts!) It’s a short episode this week because we decided we weren’t going to spoil the ending of Night Vale’s latest episode: it’s such a quiet, subtle story, perfect for an autumn day, and you really should give it a listen. We still manage to fit in some random ramblings of course, including Wednesday (surprisingly good),... The post Binary System Podcast #478 – WTNV #276 “The B...

Yep, you read that right. This week in complete defiance of our usual routine we made a plan – watch Sinners – and then we actually followed the plan and watched a movie less than six months after it came out!
