709 Meridian

As it grows hot, D and Andrew head to the jungle to kick off Season Five of 709 Meridian with John McTiernan's 1987 PREDATOR. Listen as they discuss action movie mainstreaming, Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting attempts, Bill Duke's considerable acting successes, and much more.

It's the end of summer for real this time, which means it's time for  SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM. Listen as D and Andrew discuss the film's missing  Academy Award nomination, the moody lighting, Pam Grier playing victim,  and the constant delight of Mr. William Conrad. Then stay tuned to hear  (again) what's coming up next season.

For the 50th anniversary, D and Andrew kick back, put on their capes,  and watch BLACULA, the story of Dracula's "soul brother" (not really,  Dracula's a very bad guy in this one). Listen as Andrew gets the year  wrong, over and over, as they discuss Vonetta McGee's excellent  wardrobe, the film's place beyond cult in horror, and Thalmus Rasulala  being a great leading man...

In our final(?) episode of the season and summer of dualogies, D and Andrew sink a single fang into the tasty morsel of FRIGHT NIGHT PART 2. Listen as they discuss late eighties horror versus early eighties (and what Freddy Krueger had to do with it), proto-vampire slaying, male victims, and much, much more.

In the mood for some vampire hunting around a backlot, D and Andrew tune into FRIGHT NIGHT and discuss eighties vampire movies before and after, gore horror crossover, Chris Sarandon's clubbing vamp, comparisons to star William Ragsdale's MANNEQUIN TWO (also a 709 Meridian episode), and then, just because, Mr. Dabney Coleman.

D and Andrew head into the nineties, full of smooth jazz Lalo Schifrin, Toronto for New York, New York (occasionally) for New York, and surprisingly little F/X for an F/X sequel. It's F/X 2: The Deadly Art of Illusion, starring Br(i|y)ans Brown and Dennehy. Listen as they discuss sequel continuity, the unfortunate disappearance of Rachel Ticotin, and that bad unfortunate music.

After a brief dalliance with the nineties, D and Andrew are back to the eighties--and New York City--with 1986's F/X! Listen as they talk special effects crossover, NYC as the movie default, the two Br(i|y)ans and much more!

Twenty-nine years and ten days since the last time they saw WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S II together, D and Andrew settle in to repeat the 88 minute tour and find it overlong. Listen as they discuss Terry Kiser's greatness, Andrew McCarthy's bad decisions, and the mistreated supporting cast.
