Still Buffering

Well, we unexpectedly had to take a whole week off and all we have to offer you upon our return is an episode about quite possibly one of the saddest movies of all time. Everyone say, "Thank you Sydnee" for making us all have to relive the most tragic movie scene involving bees. It was the musical, colorful sensation of the mid-2010s, and it's one of our littlest sib's favorite movies of all time: it's La La Land! Time to go full jazz talk, eventually some Taylor Swift talk because when do we not, and definitely Ryan Gosling piano talk. It's our first anime of the year, complete with flesh blobs and motorcycle superpowers! It's Akira!  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Become a member at https://maximumfun.org/joinbuffering

To round out this year of Still Buffering, our siblings have brought you a whole episode dedicated to an artist that we all really didn't know Sydnee loved that much: Kelly Clarkson! She's maybe the only person that could make a half breakup/half Christmas album that works, and we need to discuss it. Well...tis the season to be jolly and also to watch some extremely questionable Netflix original Christmas movies. It's become a tradition here on Still Buffering to spend some time each holiday season with Netflix's newest offerings, and this year we've been gifted with The Princess Switch 3: They Switched Again starring Vanessa Hudgens, Vanessa Hudgens, and Vanessa Hudgens. Music: "Baby You Chan...

It is the holiday season, so we're taking a stop to check in with one of those classic Christmas movies we all love to enjoy with the family around a nice holiday fire: Batman Returns! There's so much to unpack here and it is DEFINITELY a Christmas movie, so we're just in time.  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! It's been one of Sydnee's biggest dreams for most of her life, and now we're realizing it's also a little queer we think: it's Supermarket Sweep! Sydnee has always dreamt of how she'd sweep, so it's finally time to discover why this show has meant so much to her and why we all can't stop watching it.  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content!...

It's finally here, the day Rileigh has been not so patiently waiting for for the past three weeks: the day she forces her siblings to spend an hour talking about RED with her. It's been one of the biggest album debuts of all time, and Taylor Swift (and Jake Gyllenhaal) have been all over the news and social medias recently, so let's get into it! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help...

Well, it's a classic movie from Teylor's youth that is worthy of discussion, but that doesn't mean Rileigh is happy about its leading man. It's that time of year where we all join together to sing badly about Jake Gyllenhaal, but I guess for this week we'll talk about a good movie of his. Boy bands were all the rage back in the 90s, mostly the classics like NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys, but Sydnee somehow had a boy band obsession from before she was probably even old enough to be listening to music: the New Kids on the Block. Syd loved everything from their fashion and personalities, to of course, their catchy hooks and beats, so let's dive in! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" b...

This movie defined an entire generation of young theatre tweens, including our very own Rileigh. A literal cup had such a grasp on Rilo and all of her friends that it was her only personality trait for a solid half decade, so we have to see what it's all about. Also acapella.  Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Become a member at https:...

Once again, we're taking a journey back to the era of "angry girl" rock, where the songs were great and the outfits were just so, so 90s. Come join us! Rounding out our spooky season spectacular here on Still Buff is a classic from Sydnee and Teylor's youth that has crossed over into the new generation of Netflix reboots: it's "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" We have lots of thoughts on the various spooky stories and also the tiny leather bag of coffee creamer (?) so let's get into it before spooky season ends! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by...

To continue our spooky season series, we're diving back into a Halloween classic, "Hocus Pocus!" Even though it came out a whole 7 years before Rileigh was ever born, it was still just as important in her youth as it was for her sibs, so let's get spooky and get into it. CW: This movie series is about, well, death. So if discussions of death and dying aren't comfortable or safe for you and your mental health, we suggest taking a week off and joining us again next week. These movies became classic horror films that continued to manufacture some of the wildest graphics and death scenes, and almost all of them have some weird sentient water probably dripping on an ou...

It's a classic show older than our youngest Smirl sibling with a classic Halloween special that's been around just as long. It's the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror! Treehouses of horrors? Treehouse of horrorses? We aren't really clear on that part, but let's dive into the spooks to kick off the Spooky Season! Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus con...

We all know by now about the special place l Elle Woods holds in Rileigh's heart, but do we all also know about the less-than-great sequel to the classic Elle Woods story? We kinda forgot it existed, and apparently for good reason. Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Teylor has brought our siblings another important anime from their youth that isn't necessarily able to be comprehended easily, BUT it's entertaining and exciting and full of robots all the same. Sydnee has long had a love for a poet with some interesting styles and interesting illustrations that she now has passed on to her weird kids; it's Shel Silverstein! Yeah he also did those popular kids' books like "The Giving Tree," but we want to talk about our favorites like "A Light in the Attic" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends." Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this sh...

Rileigh just had a big birthday (21!) so we're diving into her all-time favorite movie that also is kinda based around a birthday: Tangled! Apparently our siblings have some strong opinions about this one and similar Disney movies, so let's get started! No, not the Edgar Allen kind, but the cool 90s music kind! It's Poe! Teylor and Sydnee shared a love for Poe's music, and Rileigh had never heard of her, but of course she found a way to equate her to Taylor Swift...so...let's go!   Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! No one can quite figure out why Sydnee is so drawn to this movie that is...far darker than any of us remembered, but we're pretty sure it has to do with the bangs and the fashion. Which, I gotta say are pretty good, honestly.    Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Aaand we're back! It's full of puzzles and mysteries and sibling love, so it's perfect for our show, it's Gravity Falls! Apparently for Rileigh to be a big fan of something, it has to have interactive puzzles and riddles, so this show is perfect. It was the first graphic novel series that Teylor ever introduced to a very small Rileigh back in the day, and now it's a whole movie that we're giving a whole episode to! People turn into coins and there are pee meters, what more could we need? Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Well...it's finally here. The day Sydnee has deviously been planning for years now, the day she makes her siblings watch Grease 2 and discuss it with her for an hour. We all know it's bad, but is it maybe so bad it comes back around to good again? Music: "Baby You Change Your Mind" by Nouvellas Help support this show and unlock bonus content!
