Wax Episodic | Obsessive TV Talk with Jason Cabassi

Very cool to get a surprise Halloween episode of Welcome to Derry, expanding on the lore of the Shokopiwah tribe and how they came to contain the evil entity IT in the Western Woods. We thought this story had some significant additions that made us like Welcome to Derry season 1 even more. Join Shawn and Jason as we talk it out! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Next up on Wax Episodic: Widow’s Bay...

Here’s our episode on the Lanterns finale, a series that ended up carrying more weight with all of us than I think we realized it would. Hope you enjoy our take on it. And huge thanks to all of you for following along with us! We really appreciate you guys. If there’s a season 2, we’ll be back, and we’ll probably jump on and talk about Man of Tomorrow — the upcoming Superman movie featuring the ne...

In this episode, the mayor spends the night in a charming inn and plays board games with one of the other guests, and it’s all fine. La la la la la la. Mentioned: Jason and Karen talk The Shining : https://podcastica.com/podcast/walking-dead-cast/episode/148-the-shining-1980 Next up on Wax Episodic: The Lanterns S1 finale, S1E8 “Dirt and Stars”. Welcome to Widow’s Bay everybody! Karen and I are overjoyed that so many of you expressed interest in us covering this. And what a pleasure to be immersing ourselves in the world of this wonderfully funny, smart, creepy, kooky, multiple Emmy-winning series. This episode in particular won Emmys for best writing and directing, and it shows. This is one of those pilots that just nails it, hooking you...

They just keep getting better and better. Such a hard-hitting, engaging episode this week, with perspective on Hal’s past and his relationship with his father, John reckoning with a more compassionate version of Hal, and their journey to a surreal other world. We can’t wait to see how this wraps up. Mentioned: • Win a Lanterns tribute poster illustrated by Kirk! Send a Green-Lantern-style oath ada...

Yet another change of pace this week, with this complicated, somber, surprisingly funny, intriguing, and moving episode, as we see how John has changed in the 10 years since turning down the Green Lantern ring — and how he deals with the mysterious death of his former mentor/antagonist. Next up on Wax Episodic: Lanterns S1E7 “The Jordan Boys Legacy”. Let us know your thoughts! You can email or sen...

Wow, this slow-burn show picked up the pace in the second half of season three, and we’re totally digging it (pun!). Thrilling to see so many questions answered, and new ones raised, and to find out that the final season isn’t too far away — July 9, 2007! Join Jason, Veronica, and Amelie as we get into all the details of the second half of Silo season 3, maybe our favorite segment of this series s...

Explosive, destructive episode this week as all the tension that’s been building up in this series finally comes to a head. It really felt like a season finale, didn’t it? Which makes us even more curious to find out what they’ll do with the final three episodes. Lots to talk about for this one though, so join us as we talk it out! Next up on Wax Episodic: Lanterns S1E6 “Bad Optics”. Let us know y...

Compulsory nude figure drawing, a sudden orbital vaporizing laser, and a hi-tech,  futuristic slaughterhouse are just a few of the things that made this episode odd as hell, but never dull! Join Kirk, Jim, and Jason as we talk it out! Next up on Wax Episodic: Lanterns S1E5 “Lights Out”. Let us know your thoughts! You can email or send a voice message to brightestday@podcastica.com . So great to get some of John’s backstory this week, making it much more clear why his parents set him on this years-long course to become a Green Lantern. A thoughtfully told, thought-provoking tale, and Jim and Kirk are here to talk it out.  Next up on Wax Episodic: Lanterns S1E4. Let us know your thoughts! Things are getting complicated this week, with details about who these aliens are and why they came to Rushville, Nebraska, and questions about what William Macon is up to, why Hal doesn’t want to report to the Guardians, how John can create a little green birdie sidekick, and a ton more. We do our best this ep to lay it all out for you! Mentioned: Check out Kirk’s incredible pop-culture illustrat...

Lanterns opens strong with an episode that manages to slip in a ton of expositional Green Lantern lore, an intriguing small town mystery, a bunch colorful characters all pushing against each other’s edges (with some fantastic actors playing them), all while asking some deeper questions about human nature, and even throwing in a few jokes that actually made us laugh. Yeah, we’re in!  Next up o...

We’re back for another new show! Yes, this show is about members of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force whose members wear rings that give them powers (and we love that). But there’s a lot more about this series that has us intrigued. Like, why is it also apparently a gritty murder mystery set in rural Nebraska? And what does it mean that HBO, the king of prestige TV, pick...

Surprise! Here’s Jason, Veronica, and Amelie with coverage of the first five episodes of Apple TV’s dystopian sci-fi mystery, Silo! Synopsis: In a dystopian future where a community exists in a giant silo hundreds of stories deep underground, ten thousand people live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. But some wonder if they’ve been lied to about why this silo...

The season really went out in grand fashion, with Innie and Outie Mark in a fierce argument with one another, a boisterous in-office marching band celebrating Mark’s completion of the Cold Harbor file, and a climactic battle between Drummond, Lorne of Mammalian’s Nurturable, and Mark, among other things. I mean, the unpredictable whimsy of this show is sublime :) And of course Karen and I had a bl...

So much heartbreak in this episode, between Gretchen breaking things off with Innie Dylan, Burt and Irving separating, Mark suffering and frustrated, and we even felt bad for Helena being oppressed by her father and Milchick being humiliated by Drummond (devour feculence, Drummond!). Lots to talk about, and I (Jason) am happy to be joined by my good friend Eric this week, with whom it was a pleasu...

Of course as we suspected, viewing this episode through our analytical podcaster’s lens we found a lot to dig into and appreciate about this episode and it’s implications for Harmony Cobel’s character, the series in general, and what it says about the real world. Still wasn’t our favorite though.  Next up on Severance: S2E9 “The After Hours”. Let us know your thoughts! You can email or send a voic...

What a surprising, beautiful, romantic, tragic, f#$ked up episode this week.
