Four Finger Discount (Simpsons Podcast)

Another season in the can and boy was there a lot to digest this time around. We cover which episodes we think were the "WORST. EPISODES. EVER!", as well as run through what we both consider to be the Top 10 Simpsons episodes of Season 21. We cover the emotional highs of newly discovered friendships, the terrible lows of Sacha Baron Cohen, along with all the creamy centres you've come to love from...

If you're looking for a quick fix to win back someone's love, don't buy them a pony, just let them listen to Mitch and Dando's review of "Lisa's Pony"! They discuss whether Homer actually deserved the blame for Lisa's recital fail, the sacrifices we make as parents, the excitement of being allowed to stay up late as a child, the difficulties of getting up off the floor, Dando's inability to build...

Good news everyone! We're walking on sunshine this week as Futurama 's own, Eric Kaplan, joins us for a deep-dive discussion on his beloved (and emotionally-scarring) Futurama episode, "Jurassic Bark". Eric takes us inside the making of Fry and Seymour’s unforgettable story, the original ending (which is even more heartbreaking than the final product), the aspects of the story that are overshadowe...

Moe discovers his talent for crushing dreams in “Judge Me Tender,” but does his trip to the American Idol judging panel actually produce any laughs? Guy and Dando review the Season 21 finale, debating its parade of celebrity cameos, the painfully obvious Fox cross-promotion and whether Simon Cowell at least deserves credit for playing the villain. They also look back at Ellen DeGeneres’ surprising...

This podcast is a part of us all... a part of us all... A PART OF US ALL! That's right, this week we're hopping into Flanders' RV and taking a trip to Shelbyville as we revisit "Lemon Of Troy". However, it would be foolish to partake in this endeavour alone, so we've summoned a burly protector to save us from the barrage of married cousins, the writer of the episode, Brent Forrester! We discuss th...

It's been a huge month for Simpsons news, especially now that the promo train for The NEW Simpsons Movie is in full motion. As announced at D23, The NEW Simpsons Movie got it's official title, plus fans were treated to a brief animatic of a scene from the film. During the same panel, Matt Groening may hav accidentally let it slip that a remaster for Simpson Hit & Run is coming. We also discuss...

With the announcement of The NEW Simpsons Movie, Dando is joined by fellow Simpsons nerd, Chris Stanley, to discuss their memories of the original film's release. They discuss the incredible hype in the lead-up, including some very creative tie-ins (7/11 stores becoming Kwik-E-Marts will always be a winner), the fact that Australians were the first to see it in cinemas, what their experience was l...

Sideshow Bob returns once again in what may be his best appearance since the "golden era". There was something truly sinister about his ploy here that took us back to the vibe of "Cape Feare", which was also helped by the Face Off parody. We discuss THAT gruesome visual, the Simpsons' cast on Herman's Head , why there's too many "filler" gags this season, spoiling Harry Potter , our love of Down P...

We're back with another mailbag and ready to answer all of your questions! We discuss which one-time character deserves an origin story, what is Homer's greatest side hustle, whether Lisa episodes deserve the hate they tend to receive online, why Mona Simpson is a bad mother and more! Send through your questions to mailbag@fourfingerdiscount.com.au and we'll answer them on the next show. Support t...

Aaron "Gocsy" Gocs returns this week, so to celebrate the FIFA World Cup, he and Dando discuss the favourite Simpsons episodes involving sport. Whether it's Homer's stint as a pee-wee football coach, Bart's battle with Todd Flander over mini-golf or Lisa's amazing hockey skills, all of this and more is covered in this fun episode. We also discuss Gocsy distracting Steve Smith during last year's As...

Check out this special sneak peek at Mitch and Dando's review of "Eight Misbehavin"! Each month, our Patreon supporters get access to TWO new S11 reviews from Mitch and Dando, so joing the FFD family today! Mitch and Dando have always had a love/eight relationship, but things have gone to the next level after revisiting "Eight Misbehavin", a funny (and potentially problematic) look at the life of...

To celebrate Mother's Day, The Simpsons highlight how Homer, Apu and Reverend Lovejoy have become neglectful husbands, but luckily Moe is around to convince their wives otherwise. A parody of the film A Letter To Three Wives, the episode certainly has its relatable moments, but again points out just how pessimistic Springfield in general has become by this point. We discuss the Lovejoy's (literall...

We've reached down deep into the mailbag and although we found no spy camera, we found a bunch of your questions! We discuss our favourite Simpsons games, the end of The Simpsons Ride and why it could lead to "Simpsonsland", whether Lisa is more interesting than Bart and so much more. Unattended podcast! Well, not really, since you're here and this week you're getting our review of "To Surveil With Love", an episode that had a really interesting story regarding the misuse of surveillance and the sacrifice of certain freedoms in the name of "security", but just didn't know how to execute it. Oh and apparently The Simpsons still though the topic of blonde jokes was relevant in 20...

Yes sir, there's nothing on Earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified two-host podcast! That's right, this week we've gone back to one of the all-time classic, "Marge vs the Monorail", the episode that changed The Simpsons forever. We discuss Conan's original pitch, Leonard Nimoy's last-minute (but perfect) cameo, Lyle Lanley being Phil Hartman's most iconic non-regular character and more. Supp...

Lisa discovers a beached whale after a big storm, naming her Bluella and vowing to take care of her, only for her to die the next day. Sounds like a lot of fun, right? This episode truly had a lot of potential, but unfortunately couldn't stay in any one lane and left us (well, Dando in particular), pretty annoyed. We also discuss the downfall of Flanders, Hugh Laurie's recent tweet and more. Suppo...

This week we bust out the Battle Balls and check out the episode where Homer becomes Chief Wiggum's best friend. Honestly, it's surprising that it took this long for this story to happen, but we're glad it did. Here we see a more vulnerable insight into life as Clancy Wiggum, adding a new layer to Springfield's chief of police and showcasing the struggle of finding friendship as an adult. We also...

It's time to suck the evil out of Guy and Dando with this week's review of "American History X-Cellent", an episode that sees Burns go to prison, Smithers take over the power plant, whilst Bart and Lisa raise an ant. A step up form last week, although at times it felt like the show was more interested in parodying prison films than actually telling a story. We discuss how the Burns and Smithers pl...

The Simpsons are going to Jerusalem! Why? Don't ask. Without a doubt one of the worst episodes of the series (so far) and boy do we take it to task. We discuss how this story could have made more sense, the nonsensical use of Sacha Baron Cohen as Jakob the tour guide, whether it was anti-semitic, a theory on when The Simpsons quality "dropped off" and more. Support the show on Patreon at patreon.c...

This month's mailbag may not have a spy camera, but it's packed with your questions which we were more than happy to answer! Where would we like to work in Springfield? Is Marge an underrated character? What is the best Marge episode? What did we get our Mum for Mother's Day? We answer all this and more! Support the show on Patreon at patreon.com/fourfingerdiscount Listen on Spotify -  spoti.fi/4f...

This week's podcast has a strict "no touching" policy as we delve into a real missed opportunity of an episode that sees Bart fall in love with a girl named Nikki (voiced by Sarah Silverman). Meanwhile, Lisa feels sad (again) because she's an over-achiever. We discuss how the main story could (and should) have expanded to a town-wide situation and not simply focus on the Bart/Nikki relationship, o...

Bart realises he can get what he wants by turning Marge and Homer against each other, that is until they realise that their marriage is more important than caring about parenting.  Marge and Homer rediscovering their love for each other was a fun story that many parenting couples will relate to, which along with the addition of a new location being the abandoned Springfield Subway, makes for an en...

Dental Plan! Dando needs braces! This week we discuss what many consider the greatest Simpsons episode of all time, "Last Exit To Springfield", with one of its co-writers, Jay Kogen! On top of the episode, we also discuss the competitiveness of the Simpsons writer's room, Dr. Hibbert's original name, creating characters like Mr. Burns and Sideshow Bob, memories of working with the likes of Sam Sim...

The Simpsons were slave owners?! It happened! Or did it? Here we have Lisa discovering that her ancestors helped a black slave escape to freedom, with an added secret for good measure that should change the history of the show, but won't. It's hard to find comedy with a topic such as slavery, and this episode is a perfect example. Support the show on Patreon at patreon.com/fourfingerdiscount Liste...

Simpsons royalty, Al Jean joined us this week to discuss his storied career working for the show. We cover a LOT of ground here, including his initial run as showrunner before leaving to create The Critic, (Al also gives us the scoop on The Critic revival), the time The Simpsons was almost cancelled, ignoring the internet criticism's of the show, working with Johnny Carson, the time Conan pitched...
