Your Dad’s Record Collection

Sometimes you want to be a rock ’n’ roll star; other times you want to race a motorbike across a golf course and break your leg. Sometimes you try to be Elvis Presley; other times you forget your Coke-bottle glasses, wear your prescription sunglasses onstage instead, accidentally invent your signature look, and reportedly get called back for encore after encore while opening for the Beatles. This...

Drop the needle! Turn it up!  After the sudden death of Bon Scott, AC/DC faced an impossible question: could the band continue without the voice that helped define them? With new frontman Brian Johnson, the help of the Young Clan, and producer Mutt Lange, they answered with Back in Black — a thunderous tribute to their fallen friend that became the 2nd best selling album of all time. Ryan & Sc...

It's finally here. The much awaited, eagerly anticipated, totally lives up to the expectation, Billy Joel episode! The Hot Takes ooze forth from this episode, in typical YDRC fashion.  We're joined by 80's cover bandmate Max (also releases amazing music, under Water Monster!) to discuss the journey that The Piano Man has had - also the why's and how's of how he expresses his emotions, or lack ther...

When you're young, you don't realize that you're taking everything in & that it's shaping you, informing you....hurting you. It took the world's first emo band (we declared it, therefore it's true) to reach down into the abyss of the soul, take everything & release the hurting in a primal scream.  Gosh, that sounds intense. Well, Roland Orzabal & Curt Smith were intense! & join us...

We're trying something new; Voice Notes! got a comment? a correction? an embarrassing story? send it to us!  ydrcpodcast@gmail.com

The time has come for Ryan to change his ways, eat his words, become a true artist & endorse the ever enigmatic, un-en-dorsable, always living in his heart, Prince Rogers Nelson.  We are joined today by friend-of-the-pod, Blake Braley. His album, FEELS ALRIGHT, just came out & is an exceptionally worthy album to experience.  Thank you for listening! got any hot takes? YDRCPODCAST@gmail.com

The times, they-are-a-changing, & as a international super star, ya gotta pivot your career! This not-so-well-known album by arguably the greatest hit maker of the 70's, is just that, a massive pivot. Donna was ahead of the times, so much so, that the machine couldn't keep up with her, even when they put on their best 'training montage' soundtrack.  Scott & Ryan break it down on our (speak...

our technically second guest on the pod, Eddie, joins us today to talk about the story of a band that people like to think wasn't really a band - just a group of studio musicians showing off. While they did show off, they left a legacy of a song that persists, as one member put it, "like a bad case of herpes".

Some people (it’s me, Ryan, I am some people) would say that a ‘rough around the edges’ is the best U2. However, by all accounts, The Edge is a complete gentleman & smooth as silk. In this episode, we dive deep into the well of turmoil & strife that is Ireland in the late 70’s. We find ourselves listening to a band that has things to say, they just don’t know what those are yet. Feedback?...

We've had such amazing feedback, since we've already prerecorded a bunch of episodes, we wanted to get in here with a special episode just for the people who've emailed, commented, shared, subscribed, or flipped us 'the bird' as we drove by blasting the pod' in our van!   If you have a juicy tidbit or a cool comment you'd like to share with us, you can email us at ydrcpodcast@gmail.com . or commen...

This one is a doozy! We get into the origins of reggae & punk, and how that influenced the creation of made up words to sound mysterious.  Did this band ever get along? Find out on today's episode of Your Dad's Record Collection!

Scotty & Ryan get INTO IT! It's a big one, it's perhaps the most 80's album of all time?

We're Scott & Ryan! We're here to say hello, give you a little info about ourselves, & let you in on our plans & hopes & dreams, & to just talk about music from the 80's!
