The Upon Further Review

Disney Plus has the official playlist for what you should be watching to prepare for Avengers: Doomsday. First on the list is X-Men and X2, with Professor X and our favorite mutants are fully formed and teaching the young mutants at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. We dive into our thoughts about the film after rewatching them in 2026, how it could impact Doomsday, and the main problem with...

Visionquest episodes 3 and 4 will go down in MCU history as arguably one of the most transformative and effective uses of retroactive continuity. These two episodes give so much context to lore we didn’t even consider, while still keeping the actual story grounded in stakes that are intentional and personal to our main characters of Vision (and the “A.I.’s” in his head) and Tommy. We get the revea...

Vision 2.0 is having a hard time understanding humanity as he tries to gain a hold of his identity. This process, which seems more like procrastination, is one year in and he still doesn’t want to fully commit. In his head is every other Stark AI, included the much maligned AI of Ultron. Of course there’s a villain who isn’t the “big bad” and Tommy is also struggling with his identity after the en...

In the season finale of Lanterns on HBO, we get some much needed closure to the mystery of Hal’s untimely passing. Jon also gets a sense of catharsis in the form of empathy, as the revelations around Hal leads us to more questions about Sinestro, Noah, and The Guardians too. In the comments, please answer our question: was this a satisfying conclusion to the series? Please! Subscribe where we are,...

We saw the finale to the Infinity Saga in theaters (again) seven years after it originally released and y’all, it’s still an amazing experience! Oh yeah, we also got some connections to Doomsday and what we can expect to see from Dr. Doom! If you saw it, how did watching Endgame on the big screen make you feel after all these years? Please! Subscribe where we are, especially here on YouTube😊 IG:...

In the penultimate episode seven on Lanterns season one, we find Halogram and Jon trying their best to figure out who killed Hal. We get some eye-opening context of Hal’s upbringing and the Jordan boys’ legacy. Do you think we will have time to wrap up Sinestro, Maggie the extortionist, the actual murder mystery, and Noah next week, or will they be setting us up for season two? Please! Subscribe w...

Lanterns is proving that it’s possible to make compelling superhero storytelling on screen, because season one episode six of this show proves it. Back in Rushville, the chickens have come home to roost, as everyone’s longings are on fully display. The question of this episode is why did Hal tell Jon not to tell anyone that he was there? Please! Subscribe where we are, especially here on YouTube😊...

Even though we have three episodes left, this could have easily sufficed as the last one for the season. In the midst of so much chaos in Rushville, this episode reaffirmed a lot of our premonitions and notions about the plot of this show. Zoe pulls the trigger on her condition to the inhabitants of Rushville, Hal does Jon dirty (again), the aliens go kaboom, and the aftermath of episode five will...

In an episode full of “agains” and “truths,” we find out who the Manhunter is, what’s actually going on at the ranch in Rushville, why no one was in the hospital, how Jon really likes the company of an older woman, and who Hal placates to. The crux of Lanterns S1:E4 lies on the continued brashness of Hal Jordan and his willingness to withhold and conceal, while actually conceding to some aspects a...

In a fantastic episode of television, we are transported into several parts of Jon Stewart’s origin story. From him being recruited as an infant, to landing the interview of his life, Jon fully divulges his why in regards to his destiny of becoming a Lantern. Hal Jordan still sucks and being Black in this world is very similar to the real world. Based on what we know about Jon after this episode,...

Lanterns on HBO is the DCU’s latest foray into expanding their universe and this couldn’t have dropped at a better time. Off the heels of the not so appealing Supergirl, we are thrusted into a seemingly small, yet large scale alien invasion in the middle of Nebraska. Jon Stewart is the young upstart, while Hal Jordan is the grizzled old vet that doesn’t want to give up the ring just yet. This supe...

In an episode full of secrets and factions that are fully invested in a small town, Jon is proving to be even more worthy of the ring than Hal. Our boy Hal is proving that privilege is playing a clear role in how he operates as a lantern and that gets him in a lil bit of hot water. We get the introduction of our actual big bad and this villain could literally be anyone. Our question for you is how...

In the season two finale of X-Men ‘97, many questions have been answered, ultimate sacrifices made, and a major setup for season three was revealed in post credit scene. There was one glaring aspect of the first season that is missing from the entirety of this season and it’s possible we never get that back. And in true X-Men fashion, we have some new love and love conquering all. What was your fa...

We are at the end of House of the Dragon season three and we end with The Treasons at Tumbleton and it was a fiery end. Our factions were divided between Kings Landing, Harrenhal, and the aforementioned Tumbleton. There were some major acts of futility, causing many of our characters to shift from how they’ve been moving. Dragons, blood, fire, devastation, betrayal, tragedy, and that’s only a port...

Chaos and alliances run rampant in House of the Dragon season three, episode seven. In the penultimate episode of the season, we see all of our factions scraping and vying for some semblance of control. The Tumbleton crew adds a couple of pieces on the board, Mysaria gets to munching, Alicent’s kids are going through it(her too), Rhae is trying to some visions for direction, bros want the same gir...

Spider-Man Brand New Day swings into theaters and we saw the Thursday showing! The movie was packed with die hards, dressed in merch and full on Spider-Man suits. We get some surprise characters, an origin story, and a return to form for one of our favorite MCU characters. This story clearly has him reeling from the death of Aunt May and the death of his friendships with Ned and MJ, while he makes...

X-men ‘97 season two episode seven takes us back to the Savage Lands as Exodus is the leader of a cult that has Magneto as its martyr. X-Corp and X-Factor are having problems working together, even though they have the same goals. There are some serious family ties with the children of Mystique on full display and in normal X-men fashion, we have a budding romance forming. What do you think is goi...

House of the Dragon gets rid of the character who’s been hating since season one and the fandom rejoices. Aside from that, a lot happened and it was a ridiculous amount of misaligned agendas and assignments. Rhaenyra and the throne are having problems, Aemond can’t be original while being trapped at the castle, Ulf and Hugh are stupid, and we get some relational relations. Oh yeah, Alicent is stil...

House of the Dragon season three, episode five has all of our parties coming to some major realizations, while some characters are operating with a serious amount of gall. Ormund is making money and kings, Crispy Cole is making uninspired speeches, Rhaenyra is still trying to convince the kings that she’s the queen, Daemon is clearly on his own mission with the Gold Cloaks, Halaena and Alicent are...

The Odyssey 2026 is the definition of an epic! This star studded cast, with Christopher Nolan at the helm, takes what we think is the absolute interpretation of this 3,000 year old text. We marveled at the sheer majesty of this filmmaking experience and try to explain how much we loved this and the one thing we had to ding for very obvious reasons. What was your favorite part of this amazing epic?...

X-men 97 is doing a great job, again, because we have several past storylines that have been woven together in one solid episode. Wolverine takes center stage as he has to deceive a team of mercenaries and Morph so he can regain his former adamantium glory. People die and Logan shows his true colors: cold, reflective metallic gray. Please! Subscribe where we are, especially here on YouTube😊 IG: t...

Lessons learned and the machinations made play a key role in HOTD S3:E4. In an episode filled with people reverting back to their old ways and surprisingly showing compassion, one person made a lasting impact: Ormund Hightower. It’s made clear that the generational trauma is being handed down like freckles and the kids can only make decisions based on what they’ve learned. Can we just blame everyt...

As we conclude the two-part episode of the origin of Apocalypse, we see Magneto convince his frenemy Charles to go along with his goofy plan of tricking En Sabah Nur to find a way home. Of course this doesn’t work, and the ramifications of Charles withholding information comes back to bite them in the butt. Kang reveals himself in the funniest way, while Magneto tries to correct his wrongs. Please...

The drama filled, timeline breaking X-Men are back and trying to get back to 1997. Between hanging out with En Sabah-Nur, dodging Apocalypse, and hunting down Four Horsemen, our X gang is dispersed throughout time trying to make everything go back to normal. Are you excited about potentially having two major villains confronting each other and the X-Men by the end of the season. Please! Subscribe...

Precarious situations are leading to long-lasting reverberations, after RHAENYRA’s horrific first day as queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Bastards want legitimacy, rats are being served, nobles are mad, and the smallfolk actually get a win. What was your favorite part of this episode that was shady dealings and political machinations? Please! Subscribe where we are, especially here on YouTube😊 IG: th...
