The Graveyard Shift Horror Podcast

We go back to the 70’s with this brand new movie, where David Dastmalchian who kicked ass as polka dot man, and many other roles, gets his starring role as a talk show host struggling to keep his career, and in his desperation, he decides to get a guest no one booked yet. Satan. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make...

It’s just Alicia in the studio with Mike but John didn’t miss much as we covered a mid movie this week. But the episode is good as always! This movie is a Diablo Cody joint, and directed by Zelda Williams. but there’s only one of these ladies at fault, and its not Zelda. This movie never lands its tone correctly but the aesthetic is pretty damn flawless, and true to life. Particularly the life of...

We return to the farm with the origin of Pearl from last weeks film X and WOW this movie is just a visual treat and a descent into madness and human need. This weeks episode is just us drooling over this film while cracking each other up. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep the show...

Since we watched a cartoon that was basically a porn, we decided to watch a porn that’s a horror, and landed on X! We have some thoughts on this period piece about the swinging 70’s that introduced us to the absolute purity of vision that belongs to the director, writer, and producer Ti West. We also felt inspired enough to scrounge up a deleted scene, so enjoy the alternate ending with “It Came F...

As we descended into the abyss and wondered if we ever would see the light again, Alicia pulls us out with a strong finish to Animation April, with a Genndy Tartakovsky film using iconic horror legends all hanging out and trying to navigate a young girls coming of age. Parenting is hard, more for some as a wolf-man can attest. We just had a damn great time with this and heartily recommend it. As w...

We have taken some sinful turns in Animation April and it’s time to atone as we get dragged through the 9 circles of Perdition. But we are not alone. We are joined by Alicia, and Dante, and Virgil the Poet as we ponder the many questions like how can you keep a cohesive tone when you change animation studios, what does redemption truly look like, and how will the afterlife even function after Dant...

We are halfway done with Animation April and boy of boy, we have a great guest to provide a ton of context for this film! Ryan Estrada is back again to help us break down Seoul Station, which is NOT the sequel of Train to Busan, nor the prequel. The story he provides is one of many interesting points and a reason to check out this episode! We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us...

Animation April is upon us still, like a lung full of space bacteria we just can’t shake it! This is an interesting combination of several better space horrors, wrapped around an absolutely stupid premise. Seriously. Just watch it free on YouTube, and then hear us rip it apart. It’s a fun time. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you wo...

We are back with Animation April where we check out animated horrors from all over the world, and we begin with 2 helpings of anime. The first being Wicked City, a movie about a man and a demon fighting for peace between their worlds, and the terrorists of the demon world seeking to undo such a peace. While its lovingly rendered and visually striking, it’s also…. kind of a porno. and not a loving...

We have been joined by Lorne Bronstein to take a journey into a space horror. Since we haven’t a space horror since Leprechaun or Jason, we imagined we could finally get a GOOD 90’s space horror loaded with decent CGI. We got one of those things, but luckily it doesn’t matter if the CGI looks bad, cause we don’t need eyes with what we’re watching. Lorne has a substack where he writes short stories...

Alicia is back with us to discuss a woman using dream technology to thwart the schemes of a criminal, but since we already saw Paprika, we covered the Cell, starring Jennifer Lopez and the utter manic brilliance of Vince D’onofrio as a goofy looking psychopath who has an inner demon that is…. bloody terrifying. This movie is visually captivating and just LOADED with style. and a few logical incons...

We celebrate Women’s Day with a feminist horror. Run Sweetheart Run is the story of a woman trying to survive a first date from hell. Alicia is here to help us celebrate and hopefully she won’t have a worse first date story to share. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep the show going...

We begin the month of…. well nothing in particular. Just good old random movies with John and Mike. and a special guest making her Graveyard Shift debut, Sarah Schultz aka Jessica Stabbit. Horror Film Actress and producer , clothing vendor , Miss Scarizona winner , and now a guest on the Graveyard Shift. Who says you can’t have it all? We cover her favourite film, Scream! and boy did we find a ton...

We bring the Black History Month of 2024 to a very strong finish as we cover the 2021 Netflix movie, His House. The full length directorial debut of British screenplay writer Remi Weekes, this tell the story of a South Sudan couple that escape one form of terror from their homeland, only find many more in their new home. This is a heavily recommended watch before listening. We are hosted at Captiv...

Black History Month proceeds with another Blaxploitation film based on a literary classic. This film has a LOT to say about black identity, and the duality that permeates the black consciousness. So we are glad to have Christy here to help us break it down. Also this was directed by William Crane, the same guy that gave us Blacula, so expect some similar themes. Both good and bad. We are hosted at...

Black History Month continues. Christy returns for more, and so does the Dark Prince, Mamuwalde! Its time to Scream, Blacula, Scream! Does this film have the same actor as before? YES! Does it have the same quality of plot, music, character, or soul? NO! Does it even have a black director like the first one? NO! Is it possible the lack of quality has something to do with it? YES! We are hosted at...

We celebrate Black History Month once again, and are joined by a new guest Chrissy to discuss The Blackening, the spiritual successor of Scary Movie, with a movie based on a Comedy Central skit. THIS MOVIE ROCKS. seriously check it. Its a great. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep th...

We wrap up JanuarLee, our tribute to the life and work of one of the Gods of Horror, SIR Christopher Lee. We cover the last part of his life, and his non cinematic works. and this movie was kind of important in his life, at least his relationship with the author of the story its based on. This film has him playing an excommunicated priest who nobody checked to make sure he actually left the church...

We continue celebrating the life and works of Christopher Lee, and we are not alone. We are joined by Trevor Ziebart from Sons of Butcher and Moonlight Desires , to put on our sunshades and party with the soviet police watching us. Seriously the best part of this episode is all the madness that took place behind the scenes, but that isn’t to say the movie isn’t a shit show in and of itself. This i...

The celebration of the works and life of Christopher Lee continue with JanuarLee as Alicia stays with us to discuss Dark Places! A film that exists! Lee is of course a villain in this but despite his screen time is more a background villain. The star of this movie is of course Joan Collins plump luscious squeezable…..talent. yes. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie sug...

Alicia cannot get enough of the Graveyard Shift and joins us for JanuarLee as we finally watch the film where all the horror legends come together…..for a movie that was based on a play that 6 previous film adaptations that were already played out and dated by the last film, in the 40s. Christmassacre comes to a end with a BANG as Alicia is finally rewarded with a film that might not be horror in any sense of the word but delivers a holiday film with the joy of the season and a body count to be proud of. David Harbour IS Santa. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would like to make continued support to help keep th...

We took a break from the NOT depressing well made horror films, and came back to The Lodge. Alicia might be reconsidering her pledge to see this through but we can all agree its a great film that will make you sad after. The Chrismassacre of glum. But we will end this on a happy joyful note. We are hosted at Captivate where you can tip us to send us movie suggestions and theme months. If you would...

This is a story about a castrating Santa slasher who terrorizes a neighbourhood and the absolute shitshow it is behind and front of the camera. We talk about it. Merry Christmas.
