Pastor Jim Jarrett is offering a detailed study of the early part of Genesis, and in chapter six we read of the familiar story of the flood.  Evil was continuous and extreme, so God stepped in and brought worldwide judgment.  Obviously we're living in a day much like what we read about in Genesis six, but is there any hope for us? 

  As we open our Bibles to Genesis six, the world is a mess at this particular time... and God is about to release His judgment through a worldwide flood.   How did it get to this point, and could judgment be coming soon to the earth again?  Let's open the God's Word for answers and go now to pastor Jim Jarrett for today's study.

Today on Growing in the Word pastor Jim Jarrett points to Genesis chapter six and encourages us to follow in Noah's footsteps. He lived in a world much like our own, but stood out as a faithful follower of Christ.

Maybe you've noticed the Bible contains quite a number of genealogies.  And so many of us read them without much attention!  But there are all kinds of hidden treasures to be found in them, as we'll see today on Growing in the Word.  Pastor Jim Jarrett draws our attention to Genesis five and the generations of Adam.  First, we take notice of a man named Enoch, who walked faithfully with God before...

  Pastor Jim Jarrett is currently teaching from the book of Genesis and we'll camp out in chapter five once again today.  If you'll recall, this is where we find the first genealogy in the Bible.  And while we might be tempted to gloss over this section of Scripture, pastor Jim believes it to be highly relevant. You'll see why as you study along!  

T oday on Growing in the Word we bring you the Genealogy of Adam all the way to Jesus. And as you'll see in a moment it's quite a bit different than Cain's Genealogy. As we look at this biblical family tree, we are reminded that God was in control of humanity from the very beginning! You'll find today's scripture in Genesis five. 

We've come to Genesis chapter four and the descendants of Cain. There are remarkable similarities to our day today providing great insight to our dilemma. We'll start with Genesis four, verse twenty-one. 

Evidence of the goodness of God is found in how gracious and patient He is towards those who reject Him.  It's surprising to see His response. Case in point - Cain!   Pastor Jim Jarrett is teaching from the book of Genesis.  We've come to the story and family of Cain.  So let's jump right in.

On today's broadcast, we'll gain a whole new appreciation for the gracious warnings of Scripture from our loving God.  To help assure sin doesn't have its way with us as it did Cain, let's join pastor Jim Jarrett in Genesis chapter four picking up in verse seven.

Cain had several "firsts" in his life.  He was the first baby, and yet became the first murderer.  It's shocking to think that a baby could one day become a murderer.  But tragically, it's a terrible reality that repeated for far too many families.  You might be wondering how this happens. Is there anything that can be done about it?

One of the consequences of sin is the curse.  And you may recall one area that was cursed is the ground. So man's work  will now be by the sweat of his brow.  Let's talk about that for a bit. From Genesis chapter three, picking up in verse eighteen.

  When God tells us to do something, or to avoid a certain behavior, we should listen and obey, wouldn't you agree?  When we fail to do that, there are severe consequences, and the story of Adam and Eve reminds us of that.  We're about to see the reason for the curse, as we look at Genesis chapter three.

We tell our kids from an early age that bad decisions in life have consequences.  Some of us have learned that lesson the hard way.  And of course we want them to avoid the mistakes that we've made.  Adam and Even certainly made their fair share of poor choices, and the result was judgment and The Curse.  But they weren't left without hope, because the Messiah would come to forgive them and us of...

For the last few weeks we've been in Genesis, and we're spending a considerable amount of time in chapter three, which of course is where the fall of man and the curse are described for us.  We don't want you to miss God's message of grace, even in the midst of the Curse. Though there would be judgment for Adam and Eve, there's also the hope of salvation and forgiveness to cling to.

  Right now pastor Jim Jarrett is in a detailed study of the early portion of Genesis.  And as we head back to chapter three Jim is going to point out the curse and judgment that came as a result of Adam and Eve's sin. It's amazing to consider how this act of disobedience has had such a profound impact on human history. The good news is, though paradise was lost, it can be regained by God's grace.

Today on Growing in the Word, pastor Jim Jarrett is going to look at what Adam and Eve told God when they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar so to speak.  We're in Genesis three.

We're back in Genesis three today, where we've been for quite some time.  It's rich with helpful insights regarding sin, temptation, and as we'll see today Grace!  If you have small children, you can often times tell they've done something naughty by the look an their face. Today on Growing in the Word we go all the way back to the Garden, and notice how satan works.  How he dealt with Adam and Eve, is how he deals with us.  It'll serve to help us overcome temptation, and live to honor God.

Following tragedies, questions tend to surface like, "Why does evil exist?" and "How could God allow something like this?"  Well, the problems of this world can be traced back to Genesis three, where sin entered the world.

The devil, with his cunning and craftiness uses subtlety to tempt us.  So we must be on our guard.  And because the temptations are so subtle - we all too often fail to pick up on them - till it's too late.  So we need to be regularly reminded of satan's ploys.  Today's edition of Growing In The Word will do just that.  

The ages-old dilemma of having both a good God and yet evil in the world won't be settled with a couple of sound bites. But there is a satisfying answer and it's found only in the Lord and the things He has revealed in His word.  And we'll glean some of those answers on today's broadcast!
