The Legacy Top 8 gave us some interesting surprises: no Tamiyo, no The One Ring, two Welder Cam decks, two Lands decks, and a whole lot of Urza's Saga. Phil and Zac break down the Top 8, examine the innovations that helped shape the winning decks, and discuss what the results tell us about the current Legacy metagame. We...

I went 5–2 and finished 10th at the nineties MTG Legacy Championship—and after this tournament, I'm locked in on Cephalid Breakfast for Eternal Weekend. Coming into the event, I hadn't played much paper Legacy since Eternal Weekend last year. But after working through the deck with Larson in our Cephalid Breakfast Masterclass, I had a much clearer plan for the deck, its matchups, and how t...

What if the healthiest way to enjoy Magic: The Gathering is to stop trying to keep up with Magic: The Gathering? I've been playing since 1995, and over the years I've found that the best parts of this game have very little to do with buying every new product. For me, it's about gameplay, deck building, mastering a strategy, discovering the game's history, and spending time with a c...

Zac and ForceofPhil break down the trade-offs between constantly adapting to the Legacy metagame and committing to a single deck over the long term. Phil explains why years of playing Miracles have helped him recognize new strategies, navigate difficult matchups, and find op...

Gatekeeping gets a bad reputation in Magic: The Gathering—but not all gatekeeping is bad. There’s a huge difference between telling another player they don't belong and deciding that a format, community, product, or style of play isn't for you. In this episode, I’m making the case for the good kind of gatekeeping: protecting the things you actually enjoy about Magic. Pasted text Pre-Modern...
