Compass Bible Church Weekend Sermons

Churches rarely die all at once; they fade when disciples stop making disciples. And for many Christians, that tension lands in the same place every time: fear, hesitation, and the temptation to let someone else speak for Christ. Paul’s example in 1 Corinthians 2 forces the issue down to the level of ordinary obedience. This message presses past polish, personality, and technique to ask what actua...

Plenty of things compete to define you: success, family, reputation, failure, even your own past. But if the most important thing about you is whether or not you are in Christ, every other identity has to move down the list. This episode lingers over Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 1:30–31 and presses the question: what’s the big deal about being in Christ? The sermon traces how God gives believers...

We assume the people who matter most are the people with influence, pedigree, and power. But the gospel confronts that instinct by showing that God saves in a way that leaves no room for human boasting. Walking through 1 Corinthians 1:26–29, this message turns our attention away from status and back to grace. It traces the kind of people God chooses, the way He overturns the world’s wisdom, and th...

The world looks at Christians and sees a group of wise fools, people staking everything on a 2,000-year-old book and a Savior who died as a criminal between two thieves. And according to Scripture, that misunderstanding is not an accident. Paul tells the Corinthians that the world's failure to reason its way to God is exactly what God intended. The Jews demanded signs, the Greeks demanded wisdom,...

You want your neighbor to hear the gospel, so you round off the hard edges. Hell doesn't come up. Neither does the part where your Savior hung naked on a cross. That feels like wisdom. Paul calls it emptying the cross of its power. The Corinthians had the same instinct. They wanted Paul to dress the message up for people who prized eloquence, to give them something closer to a TED Talk. He told th...

What tears a church apart when everyone still says they love Jesus? If you think division is something that happens somewhere else, this sermon presses you to see how quickly a healthy church can unravel when believers start fighting over people, preferences, and side issues instead of the gospel. 00:00:00 A Church Undone by Division 00:04:36 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 00:07:25 Preserve Local Church Un...

A church can be busy, growing, and full of good things, yet still needs to ask whether it is becoming what God intends. When preferences, personalities, and assumptions start to shape the answer, the deeper question comes into view: what is the church, and who gets to define it? 00:00 Introduction 19:03 Recognize the Church belongs to God 29:16 We need to see that the church consists of Christians...
