It's the front bookend and thesis of his gospel - this is echoed in chapter 20:31: "...so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name." In John 1:4-9 Christ is described as the light and the life. If we're going to value what John is saying here, we need to understand that apart from life and light, the only thing that awaits us is darkness.

This week we begin our series in John's Gospel. The message is clear. Jesus is God. He always has been and always will be.
