World in a Frame

Tv EN ↓ 14 episodes

World in a Frame is a video/podcast where we discuss movies. We did not know each other, we come from different countries and are of different ages. We just shared an interest in cinema and wanted to see if our differences effected the way we understand and interpret movies. There are many other good podcasts around about movies, but participants are usually same age and/or same country. We wanted to try something different.

Where Do We Go Now? A discussion about the movie by Nadine Labaki 03.07.2026

We watched this lebanese movie by Nadine Labaki, and it certainly gave rise to some discussion - and friendly banter - because we did not agree on some aspects of this movie. Can you make a comedy about such serious matters as the conflict in Lebanon, and how well does this movie succeed? In many ways this is meant as a mainstream movie targeted for general audience, and that may also contribue in...

Onibaba - a discussion about the japanese horror movie by Kaneto Shindo 07.06.2026

Thomas picked this movie for us to watch, and we had a rather intereseting discussion about morality, japanese culture and other stuff. Please be warned, that we very quickly goes into spoiler mode, so if you want to watch the movie without knowing the plot, its best to listen to the episode after watching the movie.

Metropolis (1927) - a discussion about Fritz Lang's epic movie 16.05.2026

This time Julia chose a real cinematic masterpiece, Metropolis by Fritz Lang. For some of us it was a first watch and for some of us has seen it several times. This of course made for an interesting discussion, and as some may know it is Thomas' favourite movie, so of course he could also provide with some extra insight behind this monumental film. If you are listening to the podcast version,...

The Firebird & We Should Make Movies About Love - a discussion about 2 movies by Roman Mikhaylov 04.05.2026

Filipp once again directed us towards some lesser known contemporary russian director, and wanted us to discuss two movies made by him, both connected by the fact that they were shot on the same trip to India. This made for an interesting discussion also about photography and the use of symbols in movies. And we are happy to introduce a new member to our little discussion group, Julia!

Olympia - a discussion about the controversial film by Leni Riefenstahl 06.04.2026

This is the audio version of the episode. For video version go here: Olympia video version April 6th. 2026 is 130 years since the first Olympic Games. 40 years after the first games this sport event moved to Germany and became the most famous - or infamous - in the history of The Olympics. Not only was this to be a big propaganda event for the horrible oppressive ideology and regime that few years...

The Turin Horse - a discussion about Béla Tarr's last film 19.03.2026

This is the audio version of our discussion. Check the video here: https://youtu.be/mepG81LGeEM Rysia picked this one, and we had a great discussion about Bela Tarr, his movies, how we felt about The Turin Horse and how to interpret it. There were mixed feelings and experiences and that is always fuel for great debate.

Dogtooth - a discussion about the movie that made Yorgos Lanthimos famous 17.02.2026

Rasmus loves the movie Dogtooth but thinks many discussions about this movie totally ignores some key points. It was obvious that this movie had to be discussed in World in a Frame, and it also involved diving into some modern Greek history. But we discussed many topics of control, patriarchy, freedom and much more.

The City Without Jews (1924) - a discussion about this prophetic austrian movie 30.01.2026

This is the audio version of this episode. Thomas was given the task of finding an austrian movie for us to discuss, and with his joy of silent cinema this was of course the way he went. We try very hard not to get political, but it was very difficult with this one. Movies are made in within societies with a given political framework, to a greater or lesser extend they reflect the politics of thei...

A discussion about 7Boozers (2019) by Kuznetsov 19.12.2025

This is the audio version of World in a Frame. Fillipp wanted to present a russian movie made by an independent group. This is low budget, a western, and also a movie that for the first time reall had us disagreeing on many levels. Very interesting.

A discussion about Lolita (1962) by Stanley Kubrick 22.11.2025

This is the audio version of this episode. The full version can be found on youtube: https://youtu.be/fGBWWiIJuo4 We are back again, and this time it is Kubricks version of the famous book by Nabokov - Lolita - that we are watching and discussing. The movie is uncomfortably as well as fun, a strange mix that maybe not should be taken all literal. It made for a great discussion, and there is still...

A discussion about Dementia (1955) by John Parker - the experimental horror that was nearly forgotten 17.10.2025

This is the audio version of the episode. If you want the full experience with clips from the movie, you need to watch the video edition on youtube: https://youtu.be/-CDvmvOYHEI Thomas picked this for us to talk about, and we had a great discussion. Not a silent movie in the traditional sense, but nobody speaks a word. We tried to get closer an analysis and also referenced other works. We can happ...
