May the truth of the resurrection of Jesus Christ burn away any doubt, disillusionment or discouragement from our hearts. May it anchor our faith and ignite our passion to love and serve Jesus, giving our utmost for his highest, our best for his glory. Luke 24:13-35; 1 Peter 1:3

Somewhere between leaving the upper room and arriving in Gethsemane, Jesus stops, lifts up his eyes to heaven and prays the greatest prayer ever recorded while the disciples listened in. Listen carefully and you'll hear Jesus praying for you also. John 17:1-26

How can we live righteously in an unrighteous world where people are ruthless, cruel and abusive? In James 5:7-11, James gives us a simple answer. But you probably won't like it.

James condemns the unrighteous rich for the hoarding, fraud, self-indulgence and oppression. As Christians in 21st century America, what can we learn from his condemnation? How do we righteously steward the wealth God has given us? James 5:1-6

James warns us about living as if God doesn't exist. That arrogant assumption is dangerous and sinful. Instead, James tells us to learn to live every day in humble dependence on God. James 4:13-17

Following his comments on the tongue and wisdom, James discusses the cause and cure of conflict within the church, encouraging Christians to humbly submit to God and one another. James 4:1-12

In these verses, James introduces the topic of wisdom - not how much but what kind. He challenges us to develop Godly wisdom versus human wisdom and he contrasts the two by giving us their source, their characteristics and their results. James 3:13-18

The tongue can be a blessing or a blade. James 3:1-12

James' entire letter is concerned with followers of Jesus having a faith that works. James doesn't contrast faith and works because he doesn't see them as two different things. He contrasts dead faith, which has no works, and faith, which has works. James 2:14-26

The world's value system is not God's. James directs us to be more like God and show no partiality, and to value what He values through showing mercy as we have been shown mercy. James 2:1-13

God saves us by His word and James instructs us to humbly receive it and demonstrate we have done so by obeying it, specifically in how we control our tongue, help the helpless, and avoid worldliness. James 1: 19-27

Although God may use trials in our lives to test us and strengthen our faith, he never uses them to tempt us to evil. How do we know that? Because God is good and always acts in keeping with His character. James 1:13-18

Do you trust God when things makes sense but doubt Him when they don’t? Do you believe God when life is easy but blame him when it's hard? We all need a more enduring, unwavering faith in God. James 1:5-12

A friend often reminds me, "God never wastes our pain." And James opens his letter with the same reminder. God has a good purpose in the painful trials that come crashing into our lives. He uses them to strengthen our faith and grow us to maturity. James 1:1-4

Based upon the call and command of Jesus - If you and I are not actively involved in disciple-making – we are not living the way Jesus called us and commanded us to live. Matthew 28:18-20

Are you a really a follower of Jesus or just a fan of Jesus? Matthew :18-22; Luke 5:1-11; John 6:66-68
