WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon

Award-winning journalist and breast cancer survivor Kelli O’Hara joins the Greg Hill Show and  explains the importance of giving money to cancer research: “my grandmother died from this disease, I am living, what’s going to be the prospect in a few years from now?”

Long-time Dana-Farber nurse case manager Daniel Wallace joins the Greg Hill show to say PLEASE DONATE to the Jimmy Fund which has produced advancements in cancer research including new protocols for leukemia that decrease the amount of time spent in the hospital and the severity of chemo patients receive to make give them a better quality of life throughout treatment.

Dana-Farber Nurse Briana Galante joined Greg Hill and Danielle Murr to speak about her decision to work at Dana-Farber and how her amazing patients have changed her perspective on life.

Camden was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer in March of 2018 and finished his treatments in March of 2019, and he is already playing basketball as well as other sports. He tells us who his favorite Red Sox players are and have him break down a replay review.

Larry Luccino shares his past with battling cancer and how he was once a patient at Dana-Farber. He also elaborated on  how there are more and more breakthroughs to fight against cancer. Melany is a newcomer to the region and the Jimmy Fund and she gives us her first impression of what the Jimmy Fund is all about.

Brittany lost her mother to ovarian cancer and decided to get tested just to be sure and she was thankful they caught he triple negative breast cancer. She wants to keep a positive outlook and does not want her cancer to define her so she continues to live every day to the fullest.

After coming home from his honeymoon and being diagnosed with cancer, Pat looks for things that make his everyday life feel normal, and one of those escapes for him is sports. There are not a lot of options for colon cancer but there are more options coming out to help save his life. Colon cancer does not receive a lot of attention so Pat does as much as he can to help spread the word.

Kasha Waslyak was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago at age 26, less than a year from her wedding. Dr. Ann Partridge, founder and director of the program for young women with breast cancer in the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber, discusses the advancements in breast cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber.

Joey Segreve was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor last year at 17 months old and immediately began chemotherapy and radiation. Today Joey is clear, and his parents Corinne and Steve discuss their journey with OMF.

Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck joins OMF and immediately pledges $25,000 from the Shamrock Foundation to the Jimmy Fund as well as matches every dollar up to $50,000 total in the final hour of OMF. Wyc also talks to Glenn, Lou and Christian about the Celtics’ wild offseason, what went wrong with the Celtics last year, and how NBA free agency is different than other sports.

Gabbi Stewart beat leukemia and a relapse as an infant, then last year had to have her leg amputated after doctors discovered a tumor in her right foot. Gabbi discusses living a normal life and leaving for college soon. Fauria tries to get Gabbi a boyfriend live on the show.

Carly Tobin was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor in May. She has treatments until December but she tells OMF about how grateful she is for everyone around her and that her cancer is more treatable than that of some of her fellow patients. Grady Smith was diagnosed with adrenoleukodystrophy after showing symptoms for only two weeks. Grady received a bone marrow transplant in September and has been out of the hospital since October, but still deals with Auditory Processing Disorder as a result of ALD. Erin O’Malley hosts middays just upstairs from WEEI at Mix 104.1—Erin was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in June of 2018, a very aggressive form of breast cancer. She completed eight rounds of chemotherapy in 16 weeks, all while wearing a Wonder Woman outfit. After a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in October 2018 she was declared cancer free.

Karlee Nogler is a 3-year old leukemia patient at Dana-Farber—she, her parents and siblings join OMF at Fenway Park to discuss Karlee’s diagnosis, their experience at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, and Karlee’s upcoming final dose of chemotherapy.

Gary Tanguay of NBC Sports Boston joins OMF as part of The WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon to discuss his diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma not too long ago. Tanguay underwent only three chemotherapy sessions before being cleared and stresses having a sense of humor and a positive attitude throughout the treatment process.

Dana-Farber lymphoma patient Ann Bonetti and Dr. Caron Jacobson detail Ann’s recurrence of lymphoma that required her to go to Dana-Farber to receiver CAR-T therapy, a newer type of cell therapy that his highly successful and made Ann cancer-free. 

Kevin Chouinard was given 6 to 9 months to live in April 2016, but today joins OMF more than three years later. Kevin and his wife Jodi discuss how Kevin was ready to give up after dealing with the difficulties of treatment and chemotherapy. Cheyenne Stockwood is a 6-year old optic pathway glioma patient, but the way she interacts with OMF you’d think she was a radio lifer. Cheyenne took control of the show the second she walked in the room. Cheyenne’s mother Danalynn details Cheyenne’s diagnosis and Cheyenne talks about her experience at the Jimmy Fund clinic. In his time as a NASA mission controller, David Reed was a member of the both the Apollo 11 mission that landed Neil Armstrong on the moon and the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission. David was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2014 and is currently in treatment for graft-versus-host disease damage to his lungs at Dana-Farber.
