God made people to bear His image. We are made with identity, purpose, and value, but The Fall has caused us to live out of alignment with that calling. Jesus came to this as the image, which means we have someone to trust for our redemption and renewal.

The imago dei gives us a clear identity, purpose, and value as humans. But what about The Fall in Genesis 3? Sin affects so many parts of our lives, but has the image of God in humanity been broken or distorted?

Why are we here? Is there a purpose behind humans populating planet Earth? Does my life have any value? Questions like this are asked all the time, but answers vary and can cause even further confusion. When God created humanity, there was a clear identity, purpose, and value behind it all. Genesis 1 is the starting point for knowing who we are.

Have you ever shouted something from the rooftops? What do you think would be worth this kind of behavior? What is worth shouting about in life?

Have you ever had a really good hiding place? What did you use it for? Did you hide valuables? Snacks? Yourself? Many of us have hidden something from others in our lives, but one thing is even more certain: we can’t hide anything from God!

Psalm 121

What is the most powerful thing you have ever experienced? Maybe this spring, you sought refuge in the basement because of a tornado, or you turned your head as a motorcycle or muscle car roared down the street. But have you ever been stopped in your tracks by the power of a voice?

Psalm 1 presents two options: be blessed or perish. In this introduction to the book of Psalms, the blessed life is described as a tree planted by flowing streams, bearing fruit, and dressed in leaves that never wither. As followers of Christ, we must stay close to the source of living water, Jesus. 

We often talk about the church being a family. Like any family, there can be disagreements and misunderstandings that must be worked through. The church in Corinth modeled what it means to be "called together". 

Once in a while, someone will apologize for spilling coffee in WCC’s Worship Center. They feel bad for inadvertently making a mess in a room we sometimes call a “sanctuary.” Or have you ever seen someone “hush” a kid or tell them to stop running in the “Lord’s house?” What is more holy than a building set apart for God?

Think back to your school days. Were you a person who loved “group projects,” or when the teacher said it was group project time, did your heart sink a little? To be fair, sometimes those projects went really great & sometimes those projects were pretty challenging. It really depended on you.

Do you remember going on a field trip as a kid in school? I bet before you loaded the bus, your teacher gave you a speech similar to this one: “I need everyone to remember that when we arrive at the museum, you will be on your best behavior. You not only represent yourself, but your family and school.” Your teacher appointed you as an ambassador of your school.

When we think of Easter, our mind probably races towards eggs, bunnies, pastel colors, and maybe a sweet worship service at church. But the first Easter was different. That first Easter started in sorrow, shook with an earthquake, and moved into Jesus greeting the women on their way to tell the other disciples that He was raised from the dead!

One of the best parts of a baseball game is when the production crew urges the crowd to make some noise with displays on the Jumbotron. Get Loud! The scoreboard will say, and the crowd will respond with cheers! What a day Jesus’ last arrival in Jerusalem must have been, with the shouts of Hosanna!

This week, we welcome Kasey Robinson from Westside Family Church, Leavenworth. Our Bibles tell us that God is sovereign and faithful, but do we live as if it is true? Christ is victorious over sin and death, so even when following Jesus might feel like defeat, we can walk in the confidence we have in Jesus and the promises God has for us. 

Every week at Wallula, we celebrate communion together as a way to remember the death of Jesus on the cross. Every time we do it, we eat the bread and drink the juice, symbols of the body and blood of Jesus. Those symbols carry so much weight and truth that sustain us every week to follow after Jesus.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed fervently while the disciples, nearby, could not stay awake. During that prayer, Jesus received "negative" news about his future. God’s no in the garden was a yes to something much greater. In moments of rock bottom, God is near and still working in our lives. 

Stand up for yourself! Has anyone ever encouraged you to stand up for yourself? When you imagine standing up for yourself or for a friend, what does that look like?  Are you pointing your finger or shouting to be heard? When it comes to standing up for yourself, we can glean from the story of Jesus’ trial before Caiaphas.

You are probably known to different people for different stuff. To some, you might be mom or dad, to others a husband or wife, to still others a friend or employee, or maybe to others you’re the boss. As followers of Jesus, we should want everyone, everywhere to know us for knowing Jesus!

“There is no place like home!” or “Home is where the heart is” or “Home for the Holidays”...we love to talk romantically about home!

As you go through an ordinary day, what encourages you? A compliment from a friend on your appearance, or maybe a stranger allowing you to merge into traffic? It is pretty amazing how a small act of kindness can go a long way! 

Does anyone on your block still have their Christmas lights up? When you drive by those houses, what do you think? Now you can buy permanent Christmas lights, so they'll be shining all year long! As followers of Jesus, we should always be shining!

Imagine traveling a familiar route, one that’s been driven countless times. The road is straightforward and predictable, the kind that requires little thought. Then, partway along, a detour sign appears. What was once an easy, direct trip suddenly requires a change in direction. The destination remains the same, but the path to get there does not.

Sometimes you just need your mom. Most of us know that feeling. You're calling her when you’re sick, crying over a scraped knee, or wishing you could hear her voice one more time. In those moments, we’re reminded that comfort isn’t meant to be carried alone; it’s found in community.
