Amsterdam The Netherlands We’re standing in front of the home of Albert Coenraetszoon Burgh, who was essential in the appointment of John Maurice de Nassau-Siegen as governor-general of Dutch Brazil.

Ludwigsbrunn Germany João Maurício, Príncipe de Nassau-Siegen, nasceu em 17 de junho de 1604, em Dillenburg que hoje fica na Alemanha mas, na época do nascimento de Maurício, fazia parte do Sacro Império Romano, que se via como o sucessor natural de Roma e, no auge, se estendia por uma área que incluía Roma, Berlim, Viena e Amsterdã.

Ludwigsbrunn Germany Johan Maurits, Prins van Nassau-Siegen, werd geboren op 17 juni 1604 in Dillenburg. Tegenwoordig ligt Dillenburg in Duitsland, maar ten tijde van Maurits' geboorte maakte het deel uit van het Heilige Roomse Rijk, dat zichzelf zag als de natuurlijke opvolger van het klassieke Rome en op zijn hoogtepunt een gebied besloeg dat Rome, Berlijn, Wenen, en Amsterdam omvatte.

Recife Brazil Estamos no Bairro do Recife, no centro da capital pernambucana. Esta região já fez parte de um território conhecido por outro nome: Mauricéia, ou Cidade Maurícia no século 17. O nome foi dado pelo governador Maurício de Nassau, que administrou o Brasil Holandês, entre 1637 e 1644, durante a invasão holandesa que durou 24 anos nestas terras.

Recife Brazil We bevinden ons in de Bairro do Recife, in het centrum van de hoofdstad van Pernambuco. Dit gebied was ooit onder een andere naam bekend, specifiek gedurende een deel van de 17e eeuw: Mauritsstad. Deze naam komt van de toenmalige gouverneur Maurits van Nassau, die het Nederlandse Brazilië bestuurde tussen 1637 en 1644, dit tijdens de 24-jarige Nederlandse bezetting van de regio.

Recife Brazil We are in the Bairro do Recife, in the centre of the capital of the state of Pernambuco. This area was once known by another name: During part of the 17th century, this was Mauritius. The name was bestowed by Governor Maurice de Nassau, who administered Dutch Brazil between 1637 and 1644, during the 24-year period of Dutch control.

Recife Brazil Estamos no Museu do Estado de Pernambuco (MEPE), localizado no bairro das Graças, Zona Norte do Recife. Um equipamento fundado em 1930 e com um acervo de mais de 12 mil itens. Foi o MEPE que, nos meses de agosto e setembro 2024, recebeu a exposição 1654 – 370 Anos da Rendição dos Holandeses em Pernambuco.

Recife Brazil We zijn hier in het Staatsmuseum van Pernambuco (MEPE), gelegen in de wijk Graças, in de noordelijke zone van Recife. Het museum werd opgericht in 1930 en heeft een collectie van meer dan 12000 voorwerpen. In augustus en september van 2024 was hier de tentoonstelling 1654 - 370 jaar Nederlandse overgave in Pernambuco te zien.
