Die Veranstaltung beschreibt Theorie und Praxis verteilter Systeme - Systeme, die sich aus mehreren Teilkomponenten zusammensetzen, die gemeinsam ein Ziel verfolgen. Wir betrachten sowohl algorithmische und konzeptionelle Grundlagen für verteilte Systeme wie auch eine Reihe von Fallstudien (z. B. Systeme zur Gruppenkommunikation, Map/reduce-Systeme für Big Data, ...). Schwerpunkt liegt auf Fragen der Realisierung und Nutzung unter einem "systems"-Gesichtspunkt.
